The Days of Not So Long Ago is an eye-opening collection of short stories from men and women, Northerners and Southerners, musicians, dancers, teachers and mechanics, the well-to-do and many others. All were born between 1923 and 1934, and had a unique story to tell with interesting facts about the places they were born, lived and worked—stories that shaped their lives and show how the world and our society has evolved over the years.
Local South Carolina Author, Crystal Klimavicz, partnered with the Daniel Island Historical Society to meet with residents at Summit Place on Daniel Island and talk about their lives while growing up in the early twentieth century. It was an opportunity to capture a piece of the past through a fascinating journey down memory lane that involved individuals who worked in war plants, saw segregation at its worst, suffered through medical and personal misfortunes, and so much more.
The one common thread is that despite the tragic events that occurred to each individual, their loved ones and their families along the way, everyone looked back on their lives with a smile and without regret. The Days of Not So Long Ago is available for purchase on eBook and in paperback; look for local book signings with the author around the Charleston area in the months ahead.
From Maine to the south, a stint overseas, and back to Maine again, Crystal now lives just outside of beautiful Portland, ME with her husband and their two children.
Her love for the written word coupled with family tragedy, prompted her to write Falling Through Trees. Two years later, the sequel, This Side of Perfect, was released. Both books have been recently republished under her pen name, Crystal Cole; same family dramas, told through a tighter prose and showcased by gorgeous new covers.
Beyond women's fiction, Crystal has also written The Days of Not So Long Ago, as well as multiple family memoirs. Currently, she is editing manuscripts for a number of aspiring authors, teaching the craft of memoir, and writing her latest novel, The Upended Life of Magnolia Clementine, due out in 2019.
Crystal's passion lies in creating real characters who experience everyday grief and joy, as we all do. If you enjoy her work, please leave a helpful review.
