Grizzly shifter, Bishop King, has two loves – sex and food. So when he meets Ava Lewis, a curvy redhead with the intoxicating scent of sex and chocolate, he knows he’s in trouble.
Ava’s looking for love, not a one night stand, and grizzly shifters don’t do relationships. It doesn’t matter how attracted she is to Bishop, or that every time she’s around him she loses her damn mind and ends up half-naked and in his arms. There’s no future for them and she wants her happily ever after.
But when Ava is targeted by an unstable shifter, Bishop’s vow to stay away from the beautiful, fragile woman is forgotten. Ava doesn’t want his help but Bishop’s grizzly wants her and he’ll stop at nothing to claim her – even if that means battling an ancient and powerful enemy.
Author's Note: Although Book Two of the Shifters Series is a stand-alone story, I would encourage you to first read Book One, "Willow and the Wolf" in order to gain a better understanding of the characters in Book Two.
Please note this book contains explicit and steamy sex scenes that may not be your cup of tea. It is intended for mature readers only.
Elizabeth Kelly is a romance novelist who spends her days writing and pushing her cat Murray off the keyboard. She firmly believes that a person can survive solely on sushi and coffee, and only her husband's mad cooking skills prevents her from proving that theory.
She also writes contemporary and paranormal romance under her alter-ego "Ramona Gray".
This was an enjoyable shifter romance with plenty of angst, drama, and unrequited love--all of which I loved! However, my too biggest complaints are repeated words used in this story and the unfocused storyline. The word "honey" was used by every single character over 100 times in this book! You could seriously use this for a drinking game to get absolutely trashed. Also there were too many POV switches and branching storylines for me to really connect to Ava and Bishop. However, I LOVED all of the angsty breakup drama towards the end and how Ava finally stood up for herself. Overall, I did enjoy this story, and I hope the rest of the series goes on sale or switches to KU at some point so I can continue ♡
This was a lot of fun. I think I preferred it to the first book in this series, Willow and the Wolf. The romance between Ava and Bishop was sweet and they had really good chemistry, the book was really steamy.
I did find the overall plot a little bit uninteresting – I just didn’t feel very invested in it or how it would resolve. I also found Bishop a little annoying at times.
Overall, though, this was really entertaining – the worldbuilding is fun and it’s clear that the author is having fun with the concept. It was a quick read for me and I enjoyed reading it.
"Ava and the Bear" continues a story which started in 'Willow and the Wolf'. It's nicely over the top and probably should have come with a "Muah Ha Ha" warning as a crazed Shifter Dragon (a species widely believed to be fictional within the context of the series) pursues, threatens, and proclaims his love for the shapely Ava. Shy Bear Shifter Bishop King, loves Ava Lewis but can't bring himself to admit it, has been avoiding her for two months. His father was not a nice man and definitely not a good father - he's worried that he'd be the same. But, when Ava's attacked and the man she's with is killed ... he'll move heaven and earth to keep her save. The problem with a series like 'The Shifters' is that the romance and sex element tends to blur after a while, so each new book needs a different plotline to distinguish it - and in "Ava and the Bear" that plot plays second fiddle most of the time. The book also introduces a possible lover for Cougar Shifter Kat - there's one slight problem, he's a Bird Shifter though which type of bird is not revealed (I'm betting on the Phoenix.) 3.5 Stars, reduced to 3 Stars.
Like the first book, this book is not dual pov, but rather 3rd person omniscient. It not only deals with Ava & Bishop's relationship, but continues with Mal & Willow's relationship, and begins to hint at one for Ginger. I liked this story better than book 1 because even though Ava is shy and insecure, she has a temper on her that matches well with a grizzly bear. I liked the lion brothers, although I think the added information about their kinks was 1) TMI, and 2) not necessarily realistic. I'm not saying people don't have those kinks.. just the way it was presented. It's also kind of annoying how Willow can't keep a secret to save her life. Everything doesn't need to be repeated. I loved the cause of drama in this book, and even how the make-up went.
This is another great book in this series! Ava wants a relationship with Bishop. Bishop wants Ava but not a relationship initially. His bear says Ava is his mate. Bishop thinks he's not good enough for Ava due to the verbal abuse of his mother but his bear knows otherwise. All the characters in this book are funny and just wonderful. Add in an evil dragon shifter who says Ava is his. There's lots of adventure, steamy romance, action and some surprises while both Ava and Bishop can never say no to each other.
Ava is the best friend of Willow who works for a shifter security company. Bishop is a bear shifter who has an abusive mother (verbal) and convinced him that he is no good and will never be able to commit to a relationship. When he sees Ava her smell really gets to him. Bishop tries real hard to avoid her in any way possible. But she visits the company due to her friendship with Willow. The book is about how they finally come together. The book was really good, but I do recommend you read the first book, Willow and the Wolf.
Ava is in danger! Another crazy shifter is stalking her and is willing to kill to have her. Still plenty of laughter and heat to have as well. Bishop continues with his actions toward Ava...where will they end up? Other men have also taken an interest in Ava as,well. Read the exciting story of Ava and Bishop while two more romances start sparking between others.
I wasn't convinced by the blurb of "Willow and the Wolf" so I decided to read this book first. It's in fact a serie, The Shifters, of standalone books that you can read separately. I like the multiple POV, not only from the MC but also from the others characters like Willow, Mal, or Kat. There is steam but it didn't overshadowed the storyline. Speaking about the storyline, don't expect complex story with twist and mistery. It was easy to catch up and quite entertaining.
Dominance and bdsm, ugh. Toxic side characters, ugh. Her best friend letting herself into Ava’s apartment and walking right into the bedroom without calling ahead, quadruple ugh! Who fucking does that? I’d not only revoke key privileges but cancel the friendship as well! Way to make me hate Willow! Honestly this one was a hot mess.
The story kept me enthralled! I could not put it down. I had to see what was going to happen next. The story was excellently written. You could feel the turmoil and stress that everyone was feeling along with the love and friendship that everyone had for each other.
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This is a wonderful series that will grab you and not let go. Fabulous characters finding their Way in life as shifters and their human mates. Will the bear shifted be able to come to terms with the things he thought were wrong and he can be a wonderful mate? Read on to find out.
3.5/5 🌟 rounded down, 2/5 🌶️. Quick, easy read! I love this world that Elizabeth Kelly has built and I'm getting really invested in all the characters! Ava and Bishop are cute and awkward and made me laugh! The big downside to this book is that their love story started way too soon in book 1, so by book 2 there wasn't much more happening. It also felt very disjointed and didn't flow as well as books 1 and 3.
Well, I like how the books set you up for the next ones, but don’t have you on a cliffhanger. You really do t need to even read the books in order unless you don’t want spoilers.
So glad I found this author. I love paranormal romance and this author makes you not want to put down the book. Onto the next in the series. Keep them coming.
What the heck was this? Was I reading the same book everyone else was?? Didn’t like ANYONE in this thing. Not a single person. Wish I could do more than just delete this.
