In Montana SEAL, we meet Hank “Montana” Patterson, a seasoned operative whose heart still bears the scars of a harrowing mission. He arrives home after years away, finding his father shot. But the real surprise is that the woman he knows deep down he still loves is the real target. Elle James cleverly weaves intricate narratives that delve into the lives of formidable alpha males, beautifully balancing their bravery with deep emotional struggles. The atmosphere becomes charged with tension as Hank navigates this new environment as a bodyguard. Along his journey, he encounters a diverse cast of characters, including resilient women who exude strength and empathy, showcasing their remarkable tenacity in the face of adversity. Through detailed and vivid descriptions, Montana SEAL immerses readers in an exciting tale of loyalty and courage, where Hank confronts looming threats that jeopardise their newfound peace. This story not only highlights the fierce devotion of its alpha heroes but also emphasises the importance of connection and resilience against a backdrop of uncertainty and danger.
I wanted to check out this book due to another book an author wrote in the kindle worlds set within this series. I liked what I saw of Hank there enough to check out this series. However when actually checking out this book it didn't work for me. I felt like everything seemed predictable from the start, not a good thing. Somehow the SEAL and the Hollywood actress in trouble couldn't keep my attention. In the end this one wasn't for me.
Montana SEAL is the first book of the Brotherhood Protectors series and although the premise is one of my favorites to read I found the story a bit predictable. Normally, I love the quick damsel in distress, second chance at love trope fun to read. I can't say exactly where this story lost me, but it was just okay.
Hank "Montana" Patterson is a great male character. He left his family ranch to follow his dream of becoming a SEAL. He accomplished all of his goals and is now back home after a mission gone bad. His future is pretty much his to do with as he wishes, but his father was shot and the childhood sweetheart that he hasn't been able to forget is in trouble, leaving him no time to dwell on anything but keeping her safe. In the beginning, I actually really liked it. Montana was a solid character that oozed masculinity and big protector, but as the story reached the halfway mark I found myself rolling my eyes at his cheesy responses and actions.
Sadie McClain gave up her high school love so he could chase his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. With nothing left to do she pursued her own dreams in California. Against all odds Sadie catapulted to stardom as an A-list actress after landing a lead role almost right away. She enjoys acting but not everything that comes with it and is now back home to hide out from a stalker that has just become too much. I'm not sure what it was about Sadie. I just never connected with her. She wasn't particularly wishy-washy or anything that normally annoys me in a heroine. She just was meh. Everything seemed so easy for her and she was just blandly accepting and flat as a character.
There could have been so many fireworks between this couple, but again it was just okay. They seemed to slip comfortably into their roles as bodyguard and client and then comfortably into their role as fake girlfriend and boyfriend, then comfortably into more. Don't get me wrong there were a few words of "this can't go any further", "my life isn't here", etc. but it seemed halfhearted at best.
Now, with all of that being said if you are looking for a sweet, semi-hot, comfortable read with very little drama you won't be disappointed. Again, I didn't find the story awful or unreadable. It was just okay. I'm not even opposed to giving the next one a try.
3.0-3.25 RATING- I normally like these short damsel in distress stories and this one was okay. I think the suspense portion of the story was just a little over the top for me, nothing major, just some eye roll worthy moments. Still the book sets up the rest of the series as a bodyguard/protection agency is being set up with ex-military guys... threat can't be wrong, right?
I'll probably read the rest of the books in this series eventually, just use them as in-between books, as long as I can pick up on sale or borrow.
Great action packed adventure that took in all elements, with vivid descriptions of each scene. Elle James created an interesting story of an injured Navy Seal contemplating his future with the military, trying to decide if he wanted to continue or move on to something else. When his past love (who never left his heart) needs a bodyguard, Hank steps in.
The first half of Montana Seal was great! Lots of action, mystery and romantic tingles. Gosh! How I love those tingles! The very last portion of the book when everything comes to a head (no spoilers here) was also very exciting and well written. In between the first and the last parts... well...I have no objections to the sex scenes, but be warned that there are indeed some rather intense sex scenes. Those sex scenes, however, may have been a bit too much all lumped together, one right after the next. Just my opinion! Even with that, I truly enjoyed the book and love this author's writing. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series or checking out other books by Elle James.
On a side note, this was not a very long book. A bit less than 200 pages, and can be read in a short amount of time.
Hank is injured during a mission when he receives a call that his dad has been shot and he’s needed back in Montana😢
Unbeknownst to him, the woman he loved before he left Montana, a decade ago, is also back home and he’s about to get put back to work protecting her from someone intent on taking her out😳
A fast paced, action packed story with the town hero and town celebrity😍
Good story line, great fast read. Interesting characters with lots of character development for such a short read. I really enjoyed it and am glad I picked up this book. While this is the beginning of a series there it not a cliffhanger. I am planning on reading more of this series as I really enjoyed it
Sadie McClain is one of the world's most famous actresses. Hank Patterson is the boy she left behind, who is now a Navy SEAL facing a possible discharge due to an injury sustained in the line of duty. She's returned to her Montana home to escape LA - and a stalker. He returns when his father is shot during a roadside discussion with Sadie.
Hank's father, a mean, cantankerous man, points out that if Sadie hadn't moved when she did, she would have been hit instead of him, and suggests that Hank act as her bodyguard until he shooter if found. Sadie thinks this is a bad idea because she still has a "thing" for Hank. Hank feels the same way, but can't resist protecting her. Sparks fly.
The identity of the shooter, who tries more than once to kill Sadie, is kind of a surprise and his/her rationale is kind of dumb, but I liked the book anyway.
I needed a pallet cleanse before I started an arc a that I agreed to read. So I thought this book would be perfect. And it was. It’s a sappy second chance at love story with a movie star who is being hunted down and her ex boyfriend who is a SEAL recovering from his last mission. Great chemistry on the short side but definitely enough time to tell the story.
Hot, sexy seal with a gorgeous starlet - both with a small town, hometown heart. The way Sadie cares for Montana's dad was wonderful. The mystery of the shooter brings them all together. And the fact that Sadie and Montana have a history that goes back to high school adds another element. I really enjoyed this story.
What do you do when the love of your life proposes to you? You say, "Yes! Of course, I'll marry you," right? Not Sadie. While her heart is screaming that exact answer, her head knows she has to say no. She knows Hank needs to leave their hometown, get away from his Dad, and follow his dreams. Sadie doesn't explain her reasons, thereby breaking both of their hearts in the process.
Fast forward over a decade later. They're both still single and have achieved their dreams. Hank is a Navy SEAL and Sadie is a famous actress. Happiness achieved, right? Not for these two. How can they be happy when they both know they're missing the other half of themselves? Though they haven't been in contact, taking precautionany measures to ensure they don't cross paths when they do visit home, fate steps in and says "I've had enough of this. They need to work this crap out." LOL *Totally sounds like something fate would say.*
Hank, along with his team, is injured during a mission and has lost a teammate. Hank is trying to figure out where he goes from here. Due to his injury, he may never get the necessary medical clearance to return to his team. While on medical leave, he gets a phone call from his sister, Allie, that their Dad has been shot. All problems with his Dad are pushed aside and Hank goes home.
Sadie is home to get away from a stalker. She knows who the guy is, an obsessive fan, and even has a restraining order against him. She's staying with her brother, Fin, and his wife, Carla, while she's home. Fin and Sadie's parents are deceased and Fin now lives in their childhood home with Carla. Carla has basically taken everything comforting out of the house and Sadie feels that loss. Theresearch definitely some tension there. Hmm... Sadie is in town and runs into Hank's Dad. Shots ring out and Mr. Patterson is hit. Thankfully, he'll be okay and now Hank and Sadie are reunited. *Happy dance for the reunion.*
When Mr. Patterson points out an important fact about the shooting, he brings up Sadie needing a bodyguard. Yes! Hank and Sadie will be forced to spend time together and of course, they can't deny that the love is still there, has always been there.
Can Hank keep Sadie safe? Who's after Sadie? Is it the stalker, determined to have Sadie for himself? Or is it a surprising betrayal that Hank and Sadie never expected? How can Hank and Sadie make a relationship work? Can they finally compromise so that they're both happy and can start their future together? Read now and find out.
**I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.**
This is a spin off from the Take No Prisoners series but can be read as a standalone. Hank “Montana” Patterson had to leave active duty due to an injury. He comes home to heal from that injury and finds out his father was shot at the same time. He and his dad never really got along which is why he joined the service. Sadie McClain is a huge actress and she came home to unwind and just try to distress. She and Hank were once in love and a couple in high school but she knew he needed to get away from his family and not stay to be on the ranch, around the family, namely his dad. Sadie knew he had a dream to be a SEAL and she turned down his marriage proposal even though it about killed her to do so. Sadie was with Hank’s dad when he got shot and realizes that her stalker is around and could be the one that shot at them. Hank shows up after his dad has been shot and offers to help guard Sadie until the person/persons responsible are caught but what he didn’t realize was being around his ex was how hard, how painful the memories of his lost love are. Hank never, ever stopped loving her—but what he didn’t realize was, Sadie never stopped loving him either. Sadie can’t resist being around Hank- the memories of the past come calling back and she wonders if they will ever stop, for the love she has for him. Sadie is also fighting to stay alive because she has this stalker after her. The twists and turns in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is suspense and there is some mystery along with a great heap of romance- You will not be disappointed by this book. My rating: 4.0 stars ****
***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review****
I don't get this author's style at all. We kind of come into the story in a weird place and establish the "stalkerness" very early. Then there's the cranky dad, who we see for about 5 minutes before we forget about him till the end of the book.
I knew pretty early who the mysterious murderous person was going to be and it was ridiculous. I mean really, what a hot mess. We go from random to WTF in like 2 seconds. Oh and I don't know if you know this or not, but Hank is a NAVY SEAL!!!!! He's done BUD/S training because HE'S A NAVY SEAL!!!!!!! And just in case you didn't realize that HE'S A NAVY SEAL the author is going to tell you every page or so. Ugh... we. get. it! But telling me over and over that he's a SEAL while being the crappiest of crappy body guards does NOTHING for me.
The whole story seems to meander from her to there and then as we get near the wrap up, the author decides to through the ENTIRE kitchen sink into the plot. From one implausible moment to the next... I just kind of wanted to bang my head on something to make this hot mess stop. Ugh...
No character in this book is fully developed. I don't get it, but I won't bother trying to anymore either.
I received this e-book free from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing an honest review. It is sad when the best part of the book you are reading is the picture on the front of the book and it goes downhill from there. This book had a mediocre storyline, was predictable and riddled with misspelled words. Sorry I wasted my time reading it hoping it would get better only to be left hanging with a badly written book.
My rating range of this story... 3 - 4.25 Stars If significant, why? Biggest deduction?

The back story... The H was seriously injured on his last mission in which a member of his Seal team sacrificed his life to save the rest of the team. He is called by his sister after he has surgery and is told that his estranged father was shot and in the hospital. He goes back home and runs into his first live at the hospital as she was with his father when he was shot. The h broke up with him so he would pursue his dream of joining the Navy. She is now a major Hollywood Actress and is dealing with a potential stalker. He decides to be her bodyguard while she is in town.
The Romance/Gist: Old feelings immediately surface and they are unable to avoid romantic entanglements.
The drama explosion... The bad person is uncovered and threatens lives Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Ok Was it OTT? Of course... Way OTT! 😉 Separation involved? Slight Was it resolved properly or rushed? Properly
Final Notes... Before reading this type of story, please note that the H will always be an alpha and the h will make a TSTL decision causing the H to have to rescue her. They will all be Instalove stories as well.
This series is a grouping of short reads... More than a novella but not quite a full-length novel. For me, the major benefit is a lower angst and much less internal dialog story.
While the author followed the standard template, she was able to inject an emotional element to the story and kept the relationship between the MCs strengthening.

Heather's Notes This book was not bad until the very end, where the author decided there had not been enough action. Way to much happened at the end, and parts of it were not very believable. I also disliked the way Sadie just decide how things were going to be, without ever once asking Hank what he wanted. Her inner monologue was super annoying and left me feeling not very sympathetic. Still over all the book was good. I don't know if I will continue the series or not. The next book is a different couple but we did not really see them in this book, so I am not very invested.
recensione a cura del blog “Libri Magnetici" by Meghan
The first in the Brotherhood Protectors series, this book promises great things for the future episodes. The author sets the stage with a love that will be proven will last through thick and thin, as teenage sweethearts go their separate ways in order to fulfill their dreams and broaden their horizons. As they conclude their highschool years together, feeling the love for each other, Hank expects the love of his life to say yes when he proposes. Nobody was more surprised when Sadie said no. She kept her reasons close to her heart, broken as it was. She knew that Hank had to leave their town in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL, and that if she said yes, he would never leave. And she had her own dreams of acting. Who could have ever thought that their lives would "blow up" the way they did? Not only has Hank become one of the best SEAL's out there, but Sadie is one of Hollywoods' most sought after actresses there is. But she's in hiding, so to speak, running to her hometown, trying desperately to ditch a stalker. Hank is off on medical leave, healing from wounds incurred on his last detail, when he receives a phone call from his sister telling him to get home as soon as possible, their father's been shot. As the pieces of the mystery start to fall into place, will this former couple be able to mend their hearts together? Or will they forever be destined to living their lives alone? A beautiful tale, easy to follow, with characters that are created to love, and a mystery that will have you on the edge of your chair more often than not. Be prepared to have tissues close at hand, as you may need them a time or two.
There are a number of well written series by various romance authors about protection services made up of ex-military and first responders. And since they are romance books, in each book one guard either falls for his client or colleague. This is one of those series.
Hank Patterson, member of SEAL Team 10, nickname Montana was injured on his last mission, as were most of his men, except for their leader, Lt Mike, who fell on a grenade to save the rest of them. Now Hank and Swede are being treated in a hospital in Bethesda. Facing the possibility of a medical discharge they discuss what they might do in civilian life and Swede suggests Hank might want to return to Montana and open a personal security service, hiring other ex-military. Shortly there after, he gets a call from his sister that their father had been shot. On leave he returns to Montana, walk into his father's hospital room, to come face to face with his high school sweetheart, the only woman he had ever loved and asked to marry. She had turned him down, because she thought they were too young, that he needed to follow his dream to join the Navy and she loved him too much for him to live with regrets. However, that is not what she told him.
Sadie McClain's dream was to be an actress and eleven years later is one of the highest paid actresses. They both got their dream, but found it not so shiny without the other in their life. When he finds out that it is very likely that Sadie was the actual target, Hank vows to keep her safe. Danger, romance and intrigue abound in this well written book. Appealing characters with a strong plot and lovely setting. And so the Brotherhood Protectors begins.

In the first installment of The Brotherhood Protectors, Ella James pens another SEAL romantic suspense. In this second chance at love romance, she chronicles the romantic journey of Sadie McClain and Hank Patterson. Years ago, after graduating high school, Sadie breaks up with Hank. She did it to allow him the opportunity to pursue his dream of joining the Navy and becoming a SEAL. Destiny brings both of them back to Eagle Rock. Sadie returns to reclaim calmness, recenter her soul, and escape a stalker. Hank returns to heal from the injuries incurred while on his last mission and to discover who shot his dad. What happens when Sadie and Hank meet again? Will they still fight against their true feelings? What happens when some is intent on killing Sadie? Can Hank keep her safe? To find out, you must
Like the other works written by Ms. St. James, this one was equally outstanding. Her mastery of literary devices such as, characterization, dialog, dual POV, and descriptive language garnered my attention from the get-go. The scenes where the couple work together to identify the person behind the threats to Sadie’s life are riveting. As this is the first book in this series, Ms. James presents a historical foundation for the basis of the rest of series. Readers learn the events that transpired that caused Hank to establish his protection agency. What is missing is how Hank and Sadie embrace age-play. Nevertheless, Ms. St. James did not disappoint me with this book. In fact, the opposite is true. I so wanted to read more about the other members of the brotherhood.
