Jamie Smart is a British comic artist and author best known for his 10-issue comic series Bear and his popular children's comic series Bunny vs Monkey running in the Phoenix magazine.
Gr 2-5- Monkey is up to trouble again in this second volume of the silly Bunny vs. Monkey graphic novel series. Like before, this entitled prime ape’s nefarious plans to take over the woods, depends on the weirdly wonderful inventions of the much cleverer Skunky. These are thwarted in a frenetic and funny sequence either by pure circumstance, or, by the actions of the mature Bunny and his friends. Other episodes, which feature the mishaps of daily life, actually see all the characters working together. There is some continuity among these brief self-contained strips, but not to the point where it requires previous knowledge. Certain readers may struggle with these densely packed pages and panels. Mostly, because the text takes up an unusually large chunk of space, leaving illustrations to be sized quite small at times (sound effects are also squished in whenever possible). Even though the images are overcrowded, they are not indistinguishable thanks to their popping colours, bold outlines, and even bolder actions. Monkey vs. Bunny has an overstated brand of humour in both its visuals and wordplay, and this is especially true when Monkey, the stereotypical, maniacal villain, shows up. These critters may look like adorable stuffed animals, but when “Trojan horses with bum rockets” are involved, it makes sense that they act more silly than sweet. VERDICT It’s more monkey mayhem for the middle grader.
This is a fiction book about a Bunny and a Monkey which are rivals. The monkey tries to take over the forest while the bunny tries to save it. I would recommend this book to someone because if they are interested in animated stories such as manga and other animated related comic books. You can also read comics related to the movie Naruto. This book is really good for relaxing because if you are done reading your faviourite book and you don't know what over book you are going to finish you should get this one its really good and really fun to read and after a hard day of work you should read it to calm down.
More frenetic, over-the-top hijinks for the denizens of the woods. Colorful, (mostly) tiny panels are crammed with detail. Your gn fans will swallow this whole and pant for the next installment.
Audie picked this out at the library. He enjoyed it. I found some parts funny, but it was mostly too frenetic (as another reviewer aptly put it) and dense.
Just as funny as the first one! I bought this one for my son, since we loved the first one so much. It looks like there might be a third one coming....sign us up! I love this series SO much!
