This is a the book you hold in your hand is compelling and well-written and you may find it, as I did, impossible to put down. It's a romance that's not trashy in any way, one that illustrates what a novel of this sort should inspire in its reader. When you're finished, you'll be a better person. (And probably a very tired one, because you'll have stayed up all night to finish it.) You'll also be sharing this book with every woman you know! - Sarah Reinhard, author and blogger at SnoringScholar.com

Stay with Me by Carolyn Astfalk 4.5 Stars (4 Stars on Goodreads)
This was a pleasant surprise read for me! Recommended by my friend, Tammy, I am so glad to have read this one. This is a Catholic Fiction Contemporary Romance story, and while I am not Catholic, my friend is, and I really enjoyed learning more about Catholicism, their traditions and faith. This couple was a very raw and real one to read about in their relationship and I really enjoyed the writing style too!
We start with Rebecca, who has a "meet cute" with the guy working at the grocery store - Chris. Chris is Catholic and Rebecca is Protestant (Non-Denominational) in their faith. They both get to know one another and their affection for one another grows into a beautiful relationship. Rebecca has had a hard life with her father though, who is very overbearing and domineering. He doesn't want Rebecca to date Chris because he is Catholic, yet her sister Abby's encouragement allows Rebecca to move on with her life and Chris as they figure out their relationship together.
The writing style of this book was very engaging, it was quick and I found the chemistry Chris and Rebecca had to be very well done. The faith elements blended in this book were very natural and realistic as they work through their beliefs together and grew in their faith.
Rebecca's sister Abby was hilarious too - seeing her encouragement for Rebecca to live her life was nice to see since their mother had passed away and Rebecca really needed that.
The depth this book had - let me explain! So, there is a sexual scene in this book where its not explicit but they do have sex. To be clear, this is not glorified - this is acknowledged as sin and the characters lean in to their faith for repentance and grow through their relationship and faith. You see these characters struggling through temptation throughout the book and it goes to show humans are not perfect, but we have the Lord who is and can forgive us. This showed more of Catholic repentance in their faith together and I respect the book for sharing a raw, real moment between these characters. There was a lot of discussion about the importance of waiting before marriage to have sex and I think that is important to recognize here.
Rebecca grew so much in this book as her father was quite the piece of work - I would rather say some other choice words for his character, but that's what I will say. He was abusive and controlling and to see Rebecca get out of that situation was amazing.
Rebecca also had been almost sexually assaulted in the past, so she struggles in her relationship with Chris from the past trauma she has from that experience. Chris is patient and kind throughout the entire experience.
Also, Father John was a great side character who gave good advice that I loved. Overall, I am glad I read this as my friend's recommendation!
Some Favorite Quotes:
"If you're dating because you're looking to get married, then you've got to think about her in the context of marriage and children, not just how she looks when she's seated across the table from you or how much fun you have together." (Good quote regarding dating someone from the same faith)
"You make me feel free. I know now what it is to really be alive. So, when I say 'I want to live with you,' I mean it in the best way. I want to experience everything with you." Chris to Rebecca
"God's voice. Who has spoken to you in love and truth? Whose words make you free to love and whose words hold you back?" To Rebecca about whose words/voice is she listening too. Her friends, family or God?
"She said that marriage isn't the happily ever after. It's the rocky brush-covered path that'll get you there. You're going to trip and fall. You might even take a side trail that gets you lost and confused and you'll have to fight your way back. Every last vice, fault and rough edge will be explored, but you'll never have to travel alone, and if you hang in there, it'll be perfect like a refiner's fire." - Abby to Rebecca
Content: 1 scene where the characters have sex, mild language (situational), mentions of previous sexual assault and casual social drinking.
Carolyn Astfalk's novel combines engaging characters with a plausible plot. The reader is drawn in immediately by Rebecca, who is blundering through the grocery store with her young niece and nephew in tow. You can't help rooting for this innocent young woman, and hoping she'll hit it off with the courteous guy she meets in the store.
This novel is a great blend of romance and faith witness and comes complete with a great set of supporting characters like Abby (Rebecca's boisterous sister), Father John (who's connected to both Rebecca and her love interest) and Rebecca's overbearing father.
It's a nice, thick read at over 300 pages--and I'd have been happy for more!
My review is based on an advance reader copy of this book, which will be released October 1, 2015.
Disclaimer: I am acquainted with this author via social media, through mutual membership in a large online writing group. This in no way detracts from the honesty of my review.
Stay With Me stayed in my to-be-read pile for quite a while before I finally got around to reading it. I don't usually read straight romance or inspirational fiction. But I grew to admire Ms. Astfalk's online presence, both on her blog/website and through conversations in our online writing group, so I finally bit the bullet and started in on her debut novel.
I wish I hadn't put it off so long. This book has almost everything I'm looking for in a romance. Chris and Rebecca are well-rounded characters who have flaws but work past those flaws in order to love each other. What begins as a simple love story transpires into a complex tapestry about the human experience. Ms. Astfalk manages to tackle big topics like propriety, communication, theology, sex, love, family relations, marriage, and the nature of sin, all within the context of this deceptively light book. Surprisingly, thanks to the author's deft and talented hand, none of this comes across as heavy-handed or "preachy," which has largely been my experience in faith-based fiction.
The ways that Chris and Rebecca mess up might have some more ardent readers of this genre raising their eyebrows, but I loved it because it was relatable and real. She handles the subject of repentance and grace so, so much better than other well-known Christian authors does. I wish this book had been around when I was twenty, and I recommend it to all unmarried Christian couples who find themselves struggling with temptation.
The only thing I wish was present in this book was more details about Chris and Rebecca's courtship early in their story. While we are told they bond quickly over great conversation, the reader is left largely out of the loop when it comes to those conversations. I would have loved to have more insight into those long talks.
Other than that, this book was an absolute joy to read. Ms. Astfalk is supremely talented in her use of emotional language--I think I went through my entire range of feelings in this relatively short read, and I know you will too. Whenever I find myself in need of a good, healthy cry, I know this is the book I'll turn to.
I LOVED this book! A full review on my blog coming soon!

UPDATE—Oct. 7, 2015: Today, I am honored to be part of the blog tour that is launching "Stay With Me," the debut novel by Carolyn Astfalk. (http://ow.ly/T7KvL)
"Stay With Me" is a contemporary, realistic, and heart-warming romance that is filled with authentic characters, picturesque scenery, and deep dialogue. It is the next book for your book club and certainly the one you will want to share with friends.
It begins in a grocery store. Rebecca is shopping with her niece and nephew, and Chris is stocking shelves. Their encounter leads to a first date and a delightful courtship. As they get to know one another, they realize they come from vastly different backgrounds. Chris is a convert to Catholicism and comes from an intact, loving family. Rebecca is an innocent young woman who is on her own and away from her overbearing father for the first time. While they clearly care for one another, can they come together on matters of trust and faith? Can their true love for each other sustain them through mistakes and misgivings?
"Stay With Me" is a fun, enjoyable read that has you rooting for Chris and Rebecca all the way until you read the last page. However, "Stay With Me" is also so much more. It is an honest look at dating, courtship, human sexuality, and marriage. It draws the reader to a deeper desire to understand self-giving love and the joyful challenges that come with it. Stay With Me puts names, faces and emotions to the Catholic Church’s teaching on human sexuality that St. John Paul II coined as “Theology of the Body.”
This was the fifth novel by Carolyn Astfalk that I have read, I have also read her short story in the collections, Secrets: Visible & Invisible 7 Amazing Stories and Gifts Visible & Invisible 8 Christmas Stories for Teens. I read book 2 Come Back to Me, prior to reading this volume. It was such an excellent read, it took everything I had to not read this book immediately. But my commitment to alternate fiction and non-fiction held out. And even with the wait this was an excellent story. This book sat in my ‘to be read’ pile for over 30 months. That was my loss. It is an excellent Christian fiction story, And Catholic literature novel. I wish there had been more books like this when I was a teen, and young adult. I am certain reading stories like this I would have hurt less people and been hurt less myself.
No as a 50 year old man I might not be the target audience for this sort of novel. But I really enjoyed it. And how to reread it with both my girls and my son. MY oldest daughter is ready for this story. The other are too young still. But I want stories like this to help shape and form them. Some would classify this as a romance novel. But I would say it is more a novel about relationships. About healing. And about learning to see and follow God in all things.
The story revolves around Rebecca and Chris, and their friend Father John. Chris is a convert to Catholicism. And He feels a prompting to ask Rebecca out. Rebecca was raised in an unassociated church and raised with emotional and spiritual abuse at the hands of her father. The novel follows the dating relationship, breakup, and reunion of the two. They do have premarital sex, in a moment of weakness, but both regret it, and strive to overcome it.
Fair waring this is a page turner. Once you start reading you will not want to stop. The writing is excellent. And the characters wonderfully written. Chris and Father John seem like the type of men I would want in my life.
Reading this story I thought that this story could be about my own brothers, guys I grew up with or even friends now. It is very real. And at times it is very raw. But also open an honest. The characters are exceptionally well written. The writing reminds me of some of Madeleine L’Engle’s more mature Chronos stories or her adult fiction and adult non-fiction.
Overall the story was a great surprise. I do not even remember why I picked it up originally. But like all of Astfalk’s books I have read, I have been blessed and challenged by reading this novel. It is fiction that will inspire and support faith.
Another excellent read from Full Quiver Publishing and from Carolyn Astfalk’s masterful pen.
Read the review on my blog Book Reviews and More and reviews of other books by Carolyn.
Stay With Me by Carolyn Astfalk is a poignant and believable love story about two young adults from very different backgrounds.
Rebecca has lived a sheltered life under her domineering father in an alcohol-free home where dancing is frowned upon and religion is oppressive, not inspiring. Weighed down by her past, Rebecca is hesitant to live life fully. Chris, a Harley-rider and a new convert to Catholicism, opens up a beautiful new world to her. Still, life isn’t without dangers and trials as the new couple navigate their blossoming romance. Kind hearts and good intentions aren’t always enough, especially when faced with heart-rending challenges and temptations. When tested to the limit, will their love survive?
The characters are richly depicted and memorable, including the secondary characters. I particularly enjoyed Rebecca’s brash sister Abby, with her unrestrained opinions and off-beat ways. Also, I appreciated how Father John, despite being a priest, came across as a very real person with his owns trials and tribulations.
The story is sprinkled with humor and contains the perfect balance of reality and sweetness—and sometimes bittersweetness. The author deftly avoids sappy clichés, and her writing entertains while radiating substance and depth.
Stay With Me is a journey of discovery, forgiveness, and redemption—a beautiful journey of two hearts that long to beat as one.
Chris: the kind yet imperfect guy. Rebecca: the heroine brave enough to step over her own fences—not so some guy can complete her but so she, with God’s help, can be made new. Of course these two are going to get together… but what will they do about everything –and everyone—trying to break them apart? They way Chris and Rebecca fight not just for each other but for the Truth will win your heart. These characters are types we rarely see in fiction these days but were delivered in such believable ways that their struggles, failures and triumphs always make sense but never fail to surprise. Set in South Central… PENNSYLVANIA (not LA—it’s a romance, not a novel about gang violence), Astfalk imbues all her scenes with sharp detail, whether in a lush vista or the commonplace dairy aisle. The tone is never sappy. Can I say that it’s not even sweet? Because it’s not even sweet. It’s SAVORY. That’s what it is. Stay With Me is SAVORY. Granted, I can’t say that I actually savored my first read, because I plowed through it in less than 24 hours, missing much valued sleep to do so. It’s a romance that’s clean, for sure, but it has a certain spice rarely found in the genre. If you’re romance-shy, get over it! Get your copy of STAY WITH ME today!
I was privileged to receive an advance copy of Stay With Me.
This book is an outstanding example of the exemplary fiction being written by contemporary Catholic authors who are willing to take on the pressing social and moral issues of our time and doing so constructively and interestingly, with realistic and quick paced story lines.
You will have no problem recognizing yourself, family and friends through the voices of Chris, Rebecca and her sister, Abby. Their powerful personalities will jump off the pages of this book.
This is an exceptionally well written and realistic novel. I found it difficult to put it down. In fact, I read it in two days – choosing not to do other things on my agenda. I do not regret doing so.
This novel addresses practical issues in the lives of all unmarried couples who struggle with the Catholic Church’s teachings on chastity and premarital sex, give no consideration to them, reject them outright, or mistakenly believe it is impossible to live out those truths.
Carolyn Astfalk does this seamlessly, realistically and compellingly. You will be surprised. You will be moved. You will be pleased you took the time to read Stay With Me. And, I have no doubt, you will be recommending it to everyone you know.
As Rebecca and Chris's relationship progresses from dating to engagement a number of issues require sorting through. Rebecca examines her Christian upbringing – denomination not clear - and compares it to Chris's experience of having become a Catholic. The differences between denominations are not often aired in Inspirational Fiction, probably from fear of offending a reader. The author isn't frightened to do this, and attempts to portray insight into the impact of this decision on lifestyle choices – family planning, abstaining from meat - and reactions from extended family. The other area commonly taboo within this genre are descriptions of physical intimacy. The author describes how, in our current world of co-habitation being the norm, the pressures of maintaining abstinence can be almost impossible to achieve. It's a very real story and I think it was a brave decision to write such vivid scenes. For young adults coping with similar decisions the story could make an informative and supportive read. The older reader may wonder if they ever faced those situations at all. The story may sharpen some memories.
Carolyn Astfalk’s Stay with Me is a sweet, Christian romance about a young woman who struggles to find her way in life by overcoming past scars and without disappointing her over-protective, controlling father. Her love interest, a recent Catholic convert, is learning to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit while finding himself falling for her and facing a few struggles of his own. The challenges these two face are realistic and relatable and many times had me wondering if they could pull through. Astfalk’s engaging writing style and well-developed characters drew me in to the story, making the book fun to read and hard to put down.
Christian romance readers will not be the only ones to enjoy the story’s authentic approach to love. The author’s website is also a lot of fun with recipes and excerpts from the story and a book trailer.
I debated 3 or 4 stars for this, but right now it seems to be a solid Like. Contemporary romance is still not my thing, steamy or otherwise.
To my surprise, I identified pretty strongly with Rebecca (except for the daddy issues thing--my parents are pretty awesome), and even her awkwardness with different Catholic rituals was familiar to me from the days before my conversion. Very realistic! I also appreciated all the Theology of the Body weaved in through the story. The steam level pretty much hit my sweet spot--neither too sweet nor too steamy--and I'd definitely describe it as "edgy" Christian romance.
(Yes, other reviewers, CATHOLICS. ARE. CHRISTIANS.)
A note to the publisher, though: this book deserves a MUCH better and more professional-looking cover. Please make it happen, or consider paying the cover more attention in future books!
Stay With Me is so much more than a romance. It tackles the heady, ethereal subject of why men and women were created to fall in love in the first place. I loved that this couple made mistakes, sought forgiveness and grew closer in grace. I loved that the conflicts, especially with narcissistic, abusive fathers were realistic. Mrs. Astfalk's lovely debut should me a must read for any young couple serious about their faith and their love for each other.
I don't know how to rate this book. It began as a lovely story between two characters I connected with, but I didn't read the blurb and so didn't expect it to have as much sex, sexual tension, alcohol, and language as it did. There is much to like about this story, and it has the potential to help young people who are struggling to resist temptation before marriage. I would strongly caution parents to read this first before allowing their teens to read it.
The experience I had with this book is something I never had with any other romance book. The way God and the truth of our catholic faith was incorporated into the Love Story of Chris and Rebecca was so beautiful. This experience made me realize something about myself. I love reading romance books and normally I Fall into the habit of almost obsessing over the characters and their Story and daydreaming about it. It was so different with this book. The thing that drew me in and made me continue reading was not the characters themselves and not even their Love story per se, it was the love that chris and Rebecca had for God. It was Chris's beautiful catholic faith and the way they both always found their way back to God. It inspired me deeply and showed me how beautiful our faith is. I was deeply touched by the sermon of Father John at the end and the quote from Rebeccas sister moved me to tears (iykyk). This book is amazing. There is one thing though I would like to point out because it may help some people. This book is relatively clean and you don't have to worry about smut scenes like the ones you find in most romance novels. But as someone who is rather sensitive when it comes to this kind of stuff I have to say that some kissing scenes were already too much for me. I also maybe made the mistake of listening to the audio book instead of actually reading the book, which made it more difficult to skip the parts that made me uncomfortable. I think it could have been more clean for the reader, without taking away the truth of the temptations of the characters which showed their humanity 😉🩷
When I decided to read and review Carolyn Astfalk’s novel Stay with Me, I had heard beforehand that it was really good. In my opinion, this inspirational Christian romance is better than good. It’s fantastic! It is filled with everything that makes a story appealing – romance, suspense, action, and humor. It is a fast-moving, extremely addictive book that you won’t want to put down. The characters are so real that I instantly felt connected to them and could easily relate to their life situations and empathize with their dilemmas.
Before I go any further, allow me to give you just a taste of what I am talking about. Twenty-four year-old Rebecca, raised in a strict, fundamentalist faith, finally moves out of her father’s home into an apartment of her own, away from her domineering father. She accidentally meets Chris, an attractive and congenial young man who asks her out on a date. As she gets to know Chris, a Catholic convert, she is attracted by his virtues, his strong morals, and the authentic way in which he lives his life. Chris loves Rebecca and her innocence, but must learn to deal with the emotional wounds she endures from her parents and an attempted assault during her adolescence. Father John, a young Catholic priest and mutual friend, advises them on the problems they face. Will these obstacles keep them apart or draw them together?
Astfalk’s novel Stay with Me is based on Pope John Paul II’s theology of the body and deals with a couple who are not perfect, but who are attempting to live out the theology of the body principles in their lives, despite their human frailties. To cut some of the tension, from time to time, the author focuses on Rebecca’s sister, Abby; an outspoken character who freely announces to the world whatever is on her mind. There are also predicaments that are humorous and still others that keep you on the edge of your seat. Stay with Me is one of the most entertaining and inspiring contemporary novels I have read. I wanted to keep reading after I turned the last page. I am definitely looking forward to reading the sequel.
I have been eagerly awaiting this book. Carolyn and I are writing group buddies. Though we have never met in person we cheer each other on over the internet. I was given the opportunity to read this book before it was available to the public if I would write an honest review. So I hope this review is helpful. This novel is a wonderful, clean love story. Rebecca Rhodes and Chris Reynolds come from very different back grounds. Chris is Catholic and Rebecca is from a non-denominational church. Both are Christians that were raised very differently. Chris comes from a loving family that does not attend church. Chris has been a Catholic for two years. “He expected when he found the right woman he’d be united to her in every way - emotionally, physically, intellectually, and now spiritually.” Rebecca was raised by a very over bearing father. She lived a very sheltered life. She attended church weekly with her father, but she was just going through the motions to please her father. We see Rebecca and Chris’s love grow as they get to know one another better. Chris wants a relationship with Rebecca. He feels certain that she is “the one” for him, but is uncertain about her spiritually. He consults his best friend, Father John, about continuing his relationship with Rebecca. He knows it will be difficult, but is encouraged when Rebecca attends Mass with him and has questions afterward. Rebecca’s spirituality isn’t their only obstacle. Rebecca bears the scars from her father’s verbal abuse and from an attempted sexual assault. Rebecca’s father doesn’t like Chris and reminds her of this often. This book is one I couldn’t put down. I love Rebecca’s innocence and seeing her blossom as a woman because of Chris’s love. I love seeing how Chris struggles with the challenge of remaining a chaste young man until he is married.
This is a beautiful love story I am sure you will enjoy. I know I did.
I loved the characters in this book. Well most of them. I didn't care for her overbearing abusive father who never changed even at the end of the book. The author did a good job of making the reader despise him.
I loved Rebecca and Chris. They were from completely different religious backgrounds but fell in love anyway. Both were devoted Christians but Rebecca has some baggage due to her abusive father. Chris is a new Christian who loves the Lord and wants his family to know the love of Christ too but he doesn't push. Even though Chris and Rebecca love the Lord they are not immune to sin but they are repentent. I loved Father John. He was so wise and gave Chris godly advice.
I enjoyed this book even though I am a Christian Protestant and Chris is a Christian Catholic and would desire for his wife to share the same faith.
One thing that bothered me in this book was Rebecca's sister, Abby. Abby had no filter on her mouth and some of the things that came out of her mouth was just not appropriate. Not swear words or anything but just inappropriate comments. Another thing that may possibly bother some people is the use of alcohol.
I was thrilled to be asked to read an advance copy of Stay With Me written by former coworker, Carolyn Astfalk. Her debut novel is a love story but, more than that, it's a life story. The characters are genuinely likable especially Rebecca's sister Abby. Chris and Rebecca's story is a great mix of the turmoil of relationships. Happiness, sadness, fear, and longing all swirl around in each of us and as we meet new people we need to work through all our emotions to be able to stay with them in a relationship. This book was a great read and the story moves along at a good pace so you really won't want to put it down because you don't want to miss a thing! Now, that I'm finished the book, I miss Chris and Rebecca. They are one of those literary couples who stay with you. I would love for the author to make this book the first in a multi-book series because I want to meet these characters again! Maybe Abby's story next? Stay tuned because whatever Carolyn Astfalk wants, you are going to want to read it!
Stay with Me is captivating story of two young adults that meet by chance in a grocery store in South Central Pennsylvania. Rebecca and Chris are attracted to each other the first time they lay eyes on each other. As their story unfolds, you will quickly become enthralled in their story, backgrounds, and whether or not this romance will end well. This story is a real page turner! The characters are relatable as is their faith stories. This is a Christian novel with themes that are so true in today’s world. You will be thinking about these characters and their choices long after you finish the story and will wish there was a sequel. Stay with Me is an excellent first novel by Carolyn Astfalk and has me hungry for more of her characters and story lines. I am looking forward to hosting a book group with this novel at my parish. I received an advance copy of this novel and know Carolyn from mutual friends and family.
I enjoyed the story very much. The romance and the writing were enjoyable. It seemed like it ended very quickly. It was like the author got tired of the story once she got them to toss aside their beliefs before the wedding. Then all was magically forgiven, moved on and over. This is NOT a clean Christian novel though, if that is what you were wanting. Many adult themes and scenes. I also felt like the author had an agenda to defend the Catholic church against Christianity, evident in the abusive father story line and much dialogue.
Stay With Me is a charming, well-written romance novel in the New Adult genre, with the main characters being twenty-something in age. The story and its relatable characters took me on a ride spanning the human emotions. I particularly enjoyed Rebecca's reactions to her first Catholic Mass. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Not normally one to indulge in romance novels, I read this on the recommendation of a friend and was impressed by the author's command of words. A very talented writer indeed. The prose is engaging, humorous in places, and very compelling. Not suitable for children, but it is an interesting novel for Christians desirous of a romance.
I do not usually read romance novels, but I really enjoyed this book. The author is a friend and colleague so I gave it a chance. I am glad I did. It is a sweet and realistic story. It had me really cheering for the characters. I will definitely recommend it to others. Great read!
I loved this book. Carolyn did a great job developing the characters. When I finished the book I missed them. Stay with Me is an enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.
This evidently is Carolyn’s first book, but is actually the third that I have read by her.
It is a beautiful love story between Rebecca and Chris that deals with learning to know each other, differing religious beliefs, past crisis, family turmoil, sexual tensions and learning the true meaning of love.
Abby comes from a home where her father’s protestant beliefs are a bit “off the wall” and ungrounded. She has stayed faithful to the church but comes to see it’s failures.
It is very sensual in nature, but not in an offensive way. It deals with very true issues when trying to remain pure until the wedding.
As a protestant Christian, there are some Catholic beliefs that are foreign to me, but all in all, the heart turned to Jesus and the joy of His saving power are what is important. These were brought forth in a very real manner.
I don’t think that this book would be appropriate for younger readers, but would definitely be appropriate for those entering into relationships.
My friend Sarah introduced me to Carolyn Astfalk’s work last year with her newest novel Ornamental Graces. This month I’ve read two more and they’ve both been a delight. . Not only are they chaste/closed door romances, the couples are actually striving for holiness and are Catholic. It’s not often a character is a faithful Catholic in a compelling novel – but these take the cake! . They’re rich with JPII’s Theology of the Body. I feel like they reflect me. I can see myself in the characters, and I really appreciate that! I’ll be looking for her other books and have been waiting longer for packages so I can stack up my “digital credits” on Amazon to buy her eBooks! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first contemporary Catholic romance, and I really enjoyed it. Chris is a convert, and Rebecca is Protestant when they meet in the yogurt aisle at the grocery store. As they fall in love, Rebecca also converts, and the two strive to remain chaste as they navigate their lives as a dating, and then an engaged, couple.
What I liked most about this book is that I didn't have to spend the whole time I was reading waiting for the sections I would need to skip. Though characters certainly sin in this book, there are no detailed descriptions of what they do, and their actions are placed in the proper context. The point of view of the book is unapologetically Catholic even when the characters deviate from church teaching.
I also loved that these characters inhabit a very believable world in which not everyone shares their beliefs and even their own family members openly mock them. Not only does this add tension and depth to the plot, but it also mirrors what many young Catholic couples endure in real life.
I gave up audiobooks for Lent, but after Easter, I plan to listen to the sequel, Come Back to Me on Audible. (I won a copy from the author on Instagram.)
