Djinn

Pam, a young, but fat and ugly cleaning woman, meets a Djinn while cleaning some pub toilets. The Djinn promises to fulfill her five wishes but before he will do so she has to solve some tasks he gives her. So far the framestory. What follows is a rollercoaster ride of horror scenes. Some so over the top that they are almost hilarious. The tasks Pam is up to do are outrageous and very descriptive. You will find some of the most disgusting sex scenes, blowjob descriptions and the vilest gangbang I ever came reading upon. Gosh, what an imagination this author has. She has such a vivid imagination and commands the language to put it exactly down to paper. Marvelous. Even if you'll find many passages disgusting you can't put the book down. Will Pam succeed in the end and get her wishes granted? Take the book and find out. The twist at the end is a bit predictable but this book was very fresh and exciting. The setting was in London and I knew the locations the author was speaking about. What a gross novel. Highly recommended but nothing for the faint hearted. This is over the top pulp horror at its best. Sex, crime, supernatural, humor. Highly recommended!

Heed the warnings on this book as it is a very extreme book! Lots of gore, torture, and lots of gag reflexes throughout the whole book. It takes a lot to gross me out, but this book did just that as it was the grossest horror book I have ever read.
The story revolves around Pam, a woman that her whole life she has lived in hard times and for a living she cleans bathrooms. She finds a genie lamp on the floor of one her job bathrooms, rubs it and is very surprised when an actual genie pops out. He tells her that he will grant her six wishes, but she has to complete six tasks to be able to have each wish. What she doesn't know is that the tasks she has to do are some of the most vilest things she has ever done, but if she wants her wishes granted then she will either have to do them or pay the consequences herself.
This book was filled with some of the most extreme situations I have ever read and believe me I have read some splatterpunk books, but they were nothing like this book. I was able to get through the book in about three hours as I couldn't put it down though at times I wanted to put it down as I didn't know if I would be able to get through it without that "gag reflex". Thankfully, I didn't eat anything before going to bed! Giving this book four stars.

An interesting story containing lots of gore in addition to twisted, sadistic and outré sexual occurrences. Nevertheless, I did not find it gripping in any way.
Considering the quality of Splatterpunk reads I've had like Ash Ericmore's Unbound which has some similar tropes in common with this one, Chandler Morrison's Dead Inside and Elias Witherow's The Black Farm, I have to say that I consider my rating of this one too generous.

Pam is an unattractive woman working multiple grueling jobs while supporting an abusive male partner. At work one day, she discovers a strange lamp from which a Djinn appears. All Pam's dreams can be realized if she performs a set of unsavory tasks. Her tasks are stomach-churningly grotesque and increasingly cruel and evil. But, Pam is getting what she wants. How far will she continue to bargain with the ruthless Djinn to complete her new lifestyle? This is an extremely explicit book that will certainly disturb many readers. But it will definitely hold the attention of seasoned extreme horror lovers until the visceral end.

DNF at 29%. This started off way too quickly. Pam, our lead, had the magic lamp in hand on the first page, before we knew anything about her or the story or really anything at all. And then the rest of the book just consisted of these random acts of violence, depravity, and other ugly situations between Pam and the djinn. Really no direction or purpose to any of it. And I could surmise that the ending went one of two ways. The actual extreme horror scenes were fun, but the quality of everything else just wasn’t there. And, unfortunately, this was too disjointed for me to continue.

The balance of the scales keep tipping one way, then the other. Horror? or (as another reviewer stated) scatology?
Does the writing/style make me want to try another one of the author's books? I'm on the fence with that one too. Not sure how I feel about it.

Pam Wilkins' life is pretty deplorable. She's neither attractive nor financially secure. Her boyfriend assaults her constantly--both physically and sexually. She hates her job, cleaning up other people's crap--literally. Naturally, when a djinn appears before her one day and offers six wishes, she jumps at the chance to transform her life. All she has to do is perform a number of tasks. These tasks are tough, though. But so is Pam. She's willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. She's not about to let anything stand in her way. And her life is about to change in ways she can't begin to imagine.
I love extreme horror. In my opinion, the more horrifically depraved, the better. I've read a lot of stories that most people would find offensive. I don't shy away from gore and I don't cringe when it comes to material the average person would deem repulsive.
Kudos to West for being one in a handful of authors who have ever made me gag over their brilliantly warped depictions of human indecency and debauchery. The scenes within this book are seriously foul, vile, sick and twisted. The pages ooze stomach-churning nastiness. In other words, this is one *awesome* book. I think it's great when authors aren't afraid to pull readers out of their comfort zone. This book will surely test even those with steel constitutions.
The story is well-written and imaginative. Pam is a mess--definitely not a very likeable character but you can't help but sympathize. She's just desperate and trying to improve her life.
It's a great, engrossing story that will make you stop and think about just how far you'd go to attain the perfect life. The twist at the end was great, too.

This book is so great!!! At first, I shied away from it due to it being supernatural or whatever. That typically isn't my jam. However, when blended with literally dirty sex and extreme violence, I seem to love it bunches. This is one of those books that made me LOL. Like for real. I don't think it was meant to be comical, but I am who I am and can't help what makes me laugh..highly recommend to any extreme Dan. Off to read the sequel

This novella was a nice interlude for me between more serious novels (or some not so serious). It was extreme in the manner of Kayla and the Devil. Pam, the questionable protagonist, finds a genie lamp which agrees to give her six wishes if she follows the increasingly bizarre, degrading and extreme demands of the genie. If she fails in any of the demands, she loses all of the wishes including those she has already been granted in addition to losing her soul.
I know, it sounds trite and overdone, but it's not. The story moves along rapidly and I read it in two sittings. While not high quality literary fiction, it is and fun and disturbing romp through the nastier sides of human nature. I wanted to see what would happen to Pam and what the next requirement would be.
Unlike other reviewers, I found the ending to be surprising. I was trying to guess what the conclusion would be and I was way off target. I would recommend this to anyone not bothered by things they probably should be bothered by. the story is entertaining, the characters interesting, and the plot is increasingly disgusting. There are several times I am sure I made a disgusted face while reading and I thought myself immune.

What would you do if you lived a miserable life and was suddenly offered six wishes to make all your dreams come true? You could have beauty and more money than you could ever dream of. You could finally walk away from your loser boyfriend, who only uses you for a hole and a punching bag. You could walk away from having to work several jobs just to keep said loser boyfriend in beer and snacks. You could have it all. Would you do it? Even if the chance to do so involved doing things so horrific that they would make the worst horror/slasher film seem like a Disney movie? Or would you give up the chance to have all your dreams come true and stay with the dead-end jobs and boyfriend who gets off on beating you?
Pam Wilkins was given that choice. Perform six tasks and receive six wishes. The tasks? So horrific that most would immediately say no, regardless of what completing those tasks would offer in the long run. Not Pam. She was willing to do anything and everything, regardless of what it entailed.
I have to stress that this book is EXTREMELY disturbing and will not be for anyone who is even remotely sensitive. Some of the tasks are so bad that I, who can read pretty much anything, got grossed out more than once. If you go to read it, heed the warnings in the blurb and make sure this is the type of book you can handle.
Overall, a very good book. Disturbing, yes, but extremely well written. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I left my "5Bs" blank because I didn't read enough of the book to make a valid score.
I made it about 12% into this book before I gave up. Not because it was too "extreme" or "graphic", but because it just wasn't written very well. I'm all about the splatterpunk - I don't even blink an eye at Edward Lee - and I took a chance on this at amazon when I saw the 3.6 average review at GR. I'm glad I didn't pay very much for it.
The content wasn't the problem. The problem is the writing. All of the sentences looked the same. All of the dialogue sounded the same. The author didn't show me anything. The author only told me things. The main character was boring. And she was predictable. I knew what was going to happen to her after her first "test".
There's just too many good books that are crafted by wordsmiths rather than written by content producers and lovingly edited by professionals that are advocating on the reader's behalf to spend time on books that are substandard. I do hope this author continues to refine his craft, the world needs more splatterpunk and I'm sure he has important stories to tell, but until he's better at telling them I'm going to spend my scant reading time on books that are produced to a higher caliber.

Not Your Typical Horror Story
If you're looking for an edge of your seat, suspense and gore fest kind of horror novel then this is not the book to get. If you're looking for a book that focuses more on the gross out factor based on things related to disgusting hygiene and body functions, not unlike an extreme form of what's often referred to as "potty humour", such as an exceptionally in depth description of drinking out of a toilet bowl that has feces floating in it, then grab this book. Personally I found the so called horror portions of this book to be absolutely disgusting, but not in the blood and guts kind of horror that I would enjoy. The story had a great concept and this author can definitely write well, painting a picture with words incredibly well, thus the three stars. If only his concept of horror and mine were in the same ballpark because then I would go looking for more of his books to read. However I prefer horror that leaves me feeling scared, anxious, maybe even wanting a light left on. Instead I got gross visuals that all seemed to revolve around disgusting non-hygiene in exceptional descriptions that didn't horrify me as much as it just plain made me sick with disgust. As for the warning that this isn't a book for those easily offended, I am someone who is very hard to offend, or even disgust. My career has exposed me to the worst, the ugliest, and the some of the most depraved, and even physically disgusting people one can encounter, and while it can make a hard day of work harder, this book takes those experiences to a whole new level, and not in a good way. I'm sure there are readers who may enjoy this type of gross out "horror" but to me it's not actually horror it's just plain disgusting.

This was too awesome!
This is why I love the likes of Sam West.
This was reminiscent of how much fun I had reading Richard Laymon novels, but even NASTIER!
Be prepared though, as there are some scenes that are SO depraved and disgusting that I caught myself actually holding back a mouthful of bile. Mixed in with the nauseating scenes, was a fantastic narrative with a tremendous main character who is such a bimbette. Her self-deprecating attitude, and her utter lack of luck will have you laughing and rooting for her at the same time.
WHATEVER CAN GO WRONG, WILL GO WRONG is the motto of this story. Read it and you’ll have a ball!

This is an extreme horror book. Not regular horror. Be careful. Only read if you can handle this particular genre.

Finding a discarded lamp in a shit filled toilet Pam will see a djinn come out of it. He will grant six wishes for six tasks. Fat, ugly, no future loser Pam decided to try. The first task was to drink from the dirty filthy toilet. Once she completed a task she was given a wish. Pam will see herself rich, a body transformation into a super model. But first the tasks get sicker, deranged, depraved. She will have to perform vile, disgusting, ribald sexually acts, even a dog will be involved. There will be toes amputated, a blow torch into flesh smelling like cooked pork, cork screws taking out eyes, a chainsaw through a thigh. A chance of getting what one dreams of but paying the ultimate price.

Rating: 3 stars. I can't in good measure give this anything higher than a 3 star. Not because it was bad, but because it was just entirely messed up. Of course I knew it would be, it is splatter punk horror after all. This is my second time reading splatter punk, with no fail to make my stomach churn. Sam West- you have a very unique mind lol. As outlandish as this story was, it is sadly true to say that one will go to unmeasurable lengths for wealth and beauty. Especially the intrigue and influence that social media has on the world today- those are the two very things that people would wish for if given the chance, despite the consequences even. And that is what our main character, Pam, did. I am not sure if this is something I would recommend, and I do need some time before reading another splatter punk, but all in all it was fast paced, bizarre, and maybe even fun? lol not sure if that is the right word. :P

Well, lucky for her, she gets the chance. Unlucky for her this isn't one of those "Monkey Paw" books where things get slightly arbitrarily different than the original wish's interpretation. Nope, this djinn flat out demands a straight up trade. You complete a task, he'll grant a wish. Think of it like the old TV show Fear Factor but with a host that's less insufferable than Joe Rogan.
Welp, Pam is game for a challenge. But ask yourself, dear reader, are you? This is one of the grossest books I have read. I was gagging at the thought of some of the -very descriptive - scenarios that she was put into. It leans heavily on scat and bestiality and such, which is hardly a fun read, but that's the point.
How damaged are we? How far will be go to "fix" problems that we perceive? Is it worth it to sell your soul to be more wealthy, attractive, etc.? These are big questions. But this is not a philosophy book, so don't expect answers. Recommended for those with dark, DARK senses of humor with strong stomachs. I suggest reading the Djinn's dialogue with Robin William's voice in your mind if you do.

I got 30% of the way through this book, and I could not go on. I thought huh, this is a genre I've never tried before, but Jesus Christ. To be fair, there is a disclaimer in the synopsis, so I won't focus on the overall fucked-upery, but there is plenty more to discuss. The writing is simply juvenile and all over the place. Grammatical issues, run-on sentences, unfinished thoughts, and absolutely no character development (unless body shaming counts). The author is clearly disgusted by fat people. It's one thing when you want to portray a character's disdain for their own body, but it was clear the author herself feels disdain for anyone overweight. You couldn't read a single paragraph without reading something about how "disgusting" the main character's body is. The ONLY time the writing is sufficiently descriptive, is when describing how fat and ugly she is. If you just like gore or horror, there are much better books to read that don't include dog fucking (seriously Sam, are you okay?)

What more can I say. I believe that Peter here before me summons it all up the way I would have. All I can say is this is the first time I read anything from Sam West, but it certainly won't be the last time. She is in that special category that contain the likes of Edward Lee, John Everson, Jack Ketchum and so many more. I know I'm saying that after only one book of her's that I read, but sometimes you just have a feeling. She does have quite a few books out there too.

This was one of Sam west longer novels as I’ve read quite a few of his novellas and I must say I really enjoyed the storyline it’s surprisingly different to his other books and he is a go to author for me especially after reading a series in this we follow Pam who finds a lamp like the one in Aladdin and she’s granted wishes but she has tasks to fulfill to gain them and it gets darker and darker and the twist at the end I don’t see it coming it was like a omg moment but I still enjoyed the book I’d recommend this book most of his books are on kindle unlimited so go crack it out but please read trigger warnings as most of his books have dark topics

Pam is a depressed, unattractive and unlucky woman. She finds a lamp and the Djinn asks her to do really horrible things to earn her wishes.
I love extreme horror, but this was almost too much for me. There is some disgusting sex acts she must do and they go into great detail. I am more for gore than sex stuff, I almost stopped reading this book because of how gross it gets. I kept reading cause Sam West is a good writer that keeps me into the story and I kept wanting to know what will happen to Pam.

Not for the faint of stomach
Read this so fast, could not wait to see if Pam actually went through with all of her tasks. I will admit that I did skip some parts and skim some others, just too yukky and stomach turning for me. Loved the book though, I knew there was going to be some bad twists, things were going too smoothly! Hated (loved) the ending, all through the book you are waiting for the other shoe to drop and BAM! It sure f'd her, poor Pam!

Eh. There's a lot that rubs me the wrong way from a social perspective to writing style. And I'm 90% sure an eyeball doesn't have the structural integrity to hold up to that extraction method but please share your sources if you have evidence to the contrary. Not an author I'll be reading again.

4.75 Stars Overall. The novel starts off with an exceptional start. The author uses informal language which works to their favour. The concept of the book is unique and the gore is very descriptive. It’s hard to put down the book once the plot unravels. Crazy ending with an unexpected plot twist. Incredible detail to gore.

This book was majorly disgusting and vile there are some portions that made me stop and cover my mouth in shock and yuk! And I enjoyed every minute of reading every page! This is not for the faint of heart there is even a point of beastiality so be warned however everything goes together and the writing isn't in there just for shock factor this was a good read

What a brilliant story line, read a few by this author but this is my favourite by far. Must admit my stomach was churning at the explicit details and kept thinking WTF am I reading !

Not for everyone. Gore plus. Loved it. Rated it a 4 and not a 5 because I wanted more gore (I guess). Definitely recommend for Sam West fans and those who like this genre. Looking forward to checking out "Djinn 2" that's already available.
