Dynamis in New Orleans #5

Supernatural Chronicles: The Succubi

Rate this book
When a cryptic letter is left at the doorway of her dormitory, nineteen-year-old succubus Skylark Quinn is sent in place of her nemesis, Alexis, on a top secret mission. Why she has to go with Kragan Kane—the biggest jerk, and hottest incubus on campus—is beyond her, but the decision’s well above her pay grade.

All Skylark knows for sure is the ancients are keeping secrets and the supernatural community is on edge. Rumors claim immortals’ powers are at risk, but burdened by a supernatural power she despises, why should Skylark even care?

This was okay. One of the better ones so far in the series. It felt much less childish as some of the others. I'd like to know what happens since it ends on a cliffhanger, but even though there is a follow up book, I doubt I'll ever pay to read it.

A reluctant succubus and a devilishly handsome incubus join forces in the fifth instalment of the multi-author "Supernatural Chronicles." It is a very well written novella who's protagonists capture your heart and draw you into the story right from the beginning. Skylark is a succubus who hates beings what she is. She is sent to New Orleens to solve a riddle and stop evil being released into the world. To complicate matters, her childhood incubus friend and forbidden love, Kragan, is sent to assist her. Mystery, forbidden love and paranormal action, what more could you want in a story.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've read quite a few books from this author and I've enjoyed them, so I couldn't wait to read more from her! I knew before I read this novella that it was part of the Dynamis in New Orleans series, which has all different types of novellas written from different authors in it! I haven't read any of the other novellas in this series, but I've read quite a lot of things about them! I received a copy of this novella from the author to review, so I made it my next read because I knew that it wasn't going to take me long to read! I read it in one sitting lol, which was understandable considering it was only 60 pages! The plot was also really cool! It developed at a really good pace and it held my interest all the way through! I thought that the supernatural element of the main character being a succubus was really cool and different too! I don't think that I've read a book/novella with a succubus as a main character in it before, but I loved learning more about them! I loved the direction that the plot went in and that there was a bit of action and lots of romance as well! They added a lot to the plot! The characters were also amazing and totally made this novella for me! Skylark was the main character, and she was a succubus! She was also the girl that always blended into the background and didn't want to be the centre of attention! Skylark was on a several missions in this novella, and she was willing to give up so much to keep people safe and to keep the danger locked away! This made me respect her and it told me a lot about the kind of person she was! Skylark was also easy for me to connect with and she grew a lot in such a short time in this novella! Kragan was the kind of love interest of Skylark and he was a incubus, which is the male version of a succubus! Kragan was Skylark's first love, so they had quit a lot of history in this novella, and you could definitely tell that they did lol! They were very much still in love, but they couldn't be together because they were both of the same supernatural group! Kragan was also very funny in this novella and he was pretty damn hot too! I loved the way he was with Skylark and you could see that he really loved her! He was protective of her too! I know that this novella has a sequel novella called The Incubus coming out, which is going to be written from Kragan's point of view! I already have an ARC of it, so I'm planning to make it my next read! I can't wait to continue Skylark and Kragan's journey and I'm really happy that the author decided to write a sequel to conclude their story! I'm definitely going to check out the other novellas in this series and maybe give them a read too! They all sound amazing! The cover for this novella suits it perfectly too! The model is the perfect Skylark! All the covers in the series look really cool together and I love them a lot! They suit the novellas really well too! Big thank you to Julia for a copy of The Succubi for review!

Thanks to the author, I had a chance to read this ahead of the scheduled order of the stories and have to save, I loved this one. You don't really lose anything reading them out of order (at least not with this one).

Skylark is a young succubus chosen to embark on the quest on behalf of her group, which also happens to includes Incubi. As such, Kragan, her first and only love is sent with her. Not knowing exactly what they are looking for, they head to New Orleans...the only part of the clue that is clear. Through several random acts, they eventually learn quite a bit about themselves and what their part of the quest will entail. Unfortunately for them, it isn't something either one of them wants.

I have to say that at first, I wasn't so keen on Kragan, but as the short story progressed, I did come to like him and sure as heck wanted them to get their chance together. I'm assuming that this collection is just the start to some of these stories and that we'll get more of Skylark and Kragan.

An enjoyable short story. If you like short stories, you'll enjoy this one, but remember, it is part of a collection so their is no finale. You'll have to keep reading the others to get there.

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review* (Although I also bought it anyway because I enjoyed the story so much!)
The 4th book in the Supernatural Chronicals by Julia Crane is one of my favorites in the Dynamis series so far. It’s a great tale revolving around very complex and beautifully presented characters Skylark—a reluctant succubus who wishes she weren't—and Kragan—a thriving and contented incubus—and their unavoidable yet destructive (and thus impossible... or is it?) attraction. The two species drain each other, which adds some complexity (and steamy romance) to their working together to solve the mission. The tale winds fluidly through Skylark’s mysterious past, her urgent present in New Orleans trying to save the Veil, and her hopeful future with Kragan. Even though it’s short, I got very invested and the dramatic cliffhanger near the end had my fingers clutching at my kindle. I have my fingers crossed she adds to this story in future work… I enjoyed her writing and I *need* to know where it will lead!

Another Slam Dunk in this saga

I am so happy to have received an ARC of this book. I love everything else I have read by Julia and this did not disappoint! The journey we have started shifts from Dragon Shifters to the Succubi/Incubi. Skylark and Kragan - their emotions give you the feels.
In such a short novella you really feel how they feel, and want there to be a happy ever after. I really hope their story isn't done and there is more to come for this couple. Loved it!

Amazing! A story about wanting to be something you aren't, and discovering why you are what you are, discovering truths you didn't know you were searching for. Giving in to what your heart has always know, and sacrificing the thing you want most to help save the world all while not knowing if it would be in vain. This story grabbed you on page one and took you for a ride. The feelings were tangible, the panic of the deadline suffocating and the hurt was shattering. This story was complex and amazing. After finishing I laid awake worries for Skylark and wanting so badly to know how her story ends and if her pain will be eternal or if fate will intervene and mend her. I am so in love with these characters I am mourning not being with them still. I hope this saga continues! Brilliant masterpiece!

Okay, to be honest, I wasn't at all sure what type of supernatural character this was going to be. I did however figure it out rather quickly.

The characters Skylark and Kragan seem to be completely at odds with each other throughout a good portion of this story. It becomes apparent rather quickly why there is such antagonism between them. For sure it kept me turning pages to see what happened next.

This read is very fast paced and is a very easy read. In no time at all, I had finished it and was wanting more of Skylark's and Kragan's story. I hope the author will continue this story in another book.

Great read, highly recommend.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Skylark is a succubus still coming into her powers. Powers she wishes she did not have and has searched how to get rid of them. She is chosen to solve a riddle to assist in saving the immortal community. She must learn what is going on and the consequences should the veil thin, or tear, and what this means for humanity as well. Too bad for her, her only help is Kane, an incubus, and a pain she does not want to deal with.

Skylark gets more than she even bargained for as her supernatural role is revealed to her. She has a difficult and life changing decision to make at such a young age.

4 1/2 stars

I was very quickly interested in Skylark and her inner dialogue. The way she interacts with everyone else was a blend of funny and intriguing. I wanted to know everything about her. Her struggle do what is expected of her, balanced with her inner battles had me rooting for her. When Kragan came into the picture I wasn't sure where this journey would go. I was drawn into their banter, and their history.
I love the setting of New Orleans and all the color and history of the imagery that it adds to this story.
I really enjoyed reading this.

The Succubi by Julia Crane was great! Skylark is a succubus who hates her kind. Taken from her mother at birth and raised by servants, as is typical for Succubi, Skylark grew up with her only friend, Kragen. Kragen is an Incubi and once they both came into their powers, they had to feed off humans to survive. Skylark is paired up with Kragen to stop the Veil between the living and the dead from dropping and letting the evil through. Skylark is a determined, loving young woman who must face great challenges and learn more about herself that she never knew. Great read!

Skylark is sent on a mission to close the veil. Kragan is not her first choice to have along for the ride, but he is all the company she needs.

I loved the paring of these to and so want to know more about her parents and her power. I really hope that there ends up being a sequel to this book so we can find out what happens next for Skylark and Kragan.

The fifth book in the Supernatural Chronicals. Skylark is a succubus, she feeds off sexual energy. She hates it but she hates even more that she can't be with Kragan. Her sacrifice is the most heartbreaking so far. I liked this book but Skylark kind of annoyed me. I am really intrigued to read more on it though to see what happens. I was definitely heartbroken at the end.

This book went too fast for how daunting the task seemed. One minute, they have pretty much no leads and the next, they've completed the mission. But, I did like the characters a lot. If I could give the book 3.5 stars, I would. This was the first I've read in this set. The storyline is good and, I'd like to see what the others are all about. Just went too quickly.

Highly recommend, fantastic stories!
I was a little hesitant to read this series because I had only read Jaime Magee (The Witches) and im not a fan of short stories. Fast paced adventures & a fun ride! I'm impressed by how this series turned out & and am looking forward to its continuation. I am also going to scope out the authors other works :-)

Nice. Its kind of sad to have access to something theyve always wanted, for a short period of time, to only have it suddenly taken away. Cant wait for the next book to see if they get their happily ever after.
