Supernatural Chronicles: The Necromancers

Rate this book
**This is novella #7 of 10 being released between late Oct through Dec 2015. It will be included in a 10 author collaboration box set that will release in full Jan 2016**

#AreYouReadyToHunt?

Hailey Devareaux, inexperienced yet “all-knowing” 19 year old Necromancer, couldn’t care less what the world had to offer her. Five years after her mother encountered a powerful seer—albeit a dead one—they uprooted their entire clan and moved to New Orleans for a rare supernatural conjunction. Dangerous didn’t begin to describe the reality of Necromancers living in a city so rich with history involving the celebration of the dead, but Hailey didn’t have to worry. Her abilities hadn’t matured.

What good was Necromancy when she couldn’t save her mother? Hailey hadn’t been strong enough to bring her back—not even to say goodbye.

While Hailey moped around during her family’s celebration of the Day of the Dead, she met Bobby; if only she had realized he was dead before she started talking to him. Robert “Bobby” Duval died one year ago. When he died, the veil between this world and the next was at it’s thinnest. It should’ve been easy for him to cross over, but something kept him from doing so. On the day he met Hailey, he prepared to finally move on, but a moratorium was placed on departing souls—the veil, too volatile to pass into the great beyond. His chance at his afterlife once more denied.

Based on a cryptic letter her clan received, Hailey is elected by the Necromancers to embark on the dangerous quest to restore the veil. Bobby joins Hailey and helps her understand her powers.

Will Hailey give up her bitterness against the craft and her own fear of death, and forgive herself in order to embrace her purpose—to be the next leader of their clan? Will she embrace her power as well as help save the supernatural community by sealing the veil once more and will she help Bobby cross over to finally be at peace?

Necromancers

Quite interesting. I've always been fascinated by Necromancers so I was excited for this book. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more action but the story left off on a hopeful note that there could be a sequel in the future.

Hailey is still feeling lost after the death of her mother the year before. She has been sent on a quest by the leader of her Necromancer clan to help save humanity from doom, but Hailey has never embraced her powers or had any real training. With the help of a lost ghost named Bobby and a Voodoo priestess, Hailey realizes that she needs to step up and embrace who she is to save the world.

Everyone who knows me knows that I don't really care for novellas pretty much at all. I just feel like I am missing something from them so I am usually disappointed at the end. That being said, I have had my eye on this Dynamis in New Orleans series since I first heard about it a few months ago. I love the idea of a series of books where each one is written by a different author with a new supernatural character but in the same world/location and with a common goal of saving the world. I have had book one on my wishlist since it came out in October but have been hmming and hawing over if I wanted to start the series or not due to my aversion to novellas. Well, when author Morgan Wylie gave me a copy of her book in the series which just so happens to be #7, I decided that I needed to see what this was all about. Each book is kinda sorta a standalone, so I was not missing out on any backstory from this particular character, maybe just some world building as to set up the dynamic of the supernatural issue.

I was impressed by how detailed and engaging I found this story to be. I do have a certain warm and fuzzy in my heart for necromancers mainly due to my first urban fantasy experience dealing with Anita Blake (pre-orgy based plots mind you, back when there was an actual story-line). I like the idea of this powerful group of people who are normally seen as bad guys or dark magic users but in reality they just help people get closure. Well, for only being 60ish pages, the story was fairly complete. I really liked the potential of Hailey as a character as well as a superpower. I would love for an actual series or at least a longer developed book about Hailey and her powers as well as the family problems, regaining Bobby and the mysterious attractive ghost who stalks her. I liked how everything was set up, causing it to wet my appetite for more about this particular supernatural group and confirmed for me that I need to read the entire series from the beginning to see how the books all tie together.

Overall I liked the story and the author's writing style and character development. This is my first book by Wylie, and it won't be my last. I really hope that there will be more from Hailey to come.
I received this title from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This was number 7 in the series but was still good as a stand alone novel, easy story to pick up and enjoy, first time I have read this author but now will definitely look for more in the future.

So I read this book after winning a copy through an online release party. I had never heard of the author or her books before the party. So when I won the book and she asked me to write a review for her, I was like sure Morgan.

Going into the book I had some preconceived notions:
1. It's a novella. I generally stay away from those just because I feel like it's not a book, it's a short story and I generally get bored at how fast it goes.
2. A teenage necromancer? Yesh.

I started reading the book and was pleasantly surprised. Wylie did a great job of creating a novella meant to be in between other books but not feeling like a gap filler.
I found myself interested and entertained throughout the whole book. It didn't feel like a novella, it had all the great aspects of a book and it intrigued me enough to pick up the other books in her series!

If you get a chance, pick this little sucker up. I guarantee it won't bore you to death, it actually might get a rise out of you!
(See what I did there?)

Hailey's mother died a year ago, she stopped practicing her craft, and is a very inexperienced Necromancer with a fear of death. She does not want to step up and take her place as rightful leader. Hailey is chosen by the Noir to be her peoples' representative to heal the rift between worlds. She is assisted by Bobby, a ghost, her mother's best friend, and a mysterious ghost that appears at random. Solving the riddle and completing the task is made difficult because Hailey is so inexperienced and lacks faith in her own abilities.

This is book 7 in the Supernatural Chronicles. It can be read as a standalone but all of the books interconnect in the battle against true evil taking over. I really enjoy getting to know different supernatural creatures and how each one must solve the riddles and fight to seal the veil. I especially enjoyed Hailey's story and her journey to discover who she is and what she can accomplish.

Hailey is an inexperienced Necromancer still coming to terms with her mother's death. However, it is time she come to terms with it and start moving into her own as the head of her clan.

She also gets sent on a mission, and it will take her coming into her own and the help of some new friends to do her part to close the Veil. She is surrounded by one of her mother's closest friends and a new friend of her own as well as another hiding in the shadows. They all have faith in her, but does she have enough faith in herself?

I am loving the Supernatural Chronicles, and look forward to the rest.

I really enjoyed this part of the Dynamis Seroes and I think I may have found a new author to follow! Hailey is a young Necromancer who recently lost her mother. She is called to help save the world- the Veil between the living and dead is tearing and she. Yay do her part to stop it. Hailey is joined by Bobby, a new spirit friend, and Cezilia, who is an old friend of Hailey's mother. Hailey must learn to embrace her powers and choose her fate before it is too late. If there is more to this story, I want to read it! I want to know all about Hailey's father and her mystery ghost as well. Great read! Would definitely recommend it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this next installment in the Supernatural Chronicles. The necromancers seems like it'd be a very dark book--and there is some tough subject matter that can be emotional--but Morgan Wylie manages to keep it light-hearted, hopeful, and a quick pace that made the reading easy and enjoyable. I liked the intrigue of the mystery ghost that I hope she'll explain more in future work. A quick and empowering read about a necromancer coming into her own and accepting the positive sides of death; a supernatural species I really hadn't read before, but liked enough to want more!

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. The 7th book in the multi-author series, Supernatural Chronicles, continues the hunt in a captivating story of self discovery, family secrets, tragedy and ghostly accomplices. It is a very well written novella that you just can't put down until it is finished, and even then you are left craving for the next instalment in the story. The characters capture your heart and leave you wanting to know where there story will lead and what the future holds for them.

I received this book in advance in exchange for my review.

This is part 7 of 10 from the Supernatural Chronicles. I thought Morgan Wylie did an excellent job in creating the environment, developing the characters, and pulling together a full blown story in such few pages. I was captivated with wonderment as I watched Hailey first deny her heritage and then to be built up by those around her to where she could not only accept but embrace her destiny. The ending was unexpected and has me impatiently waiting for more.

Have to admit, the title worried me a bit, but I wasted my time worrying. This story is very unique. Not your standard supernatural. I started reading this short story and just couldn't put it down. Intense drama and a surprise friendship and maybe even a start to a new relationship as well. With each page the author takes you on a ride that culminates a surprise ending. Intense feelings and emotions also come with this story. A wonderful read I would highly recommend.

Amazing adventure

I have love this series. It's different from others I have read. All the supernatural beings have a job to do, help close the veil yet each story is different. This was my intro to necromancer and I really hope Morgan continues their story. I can't wait see what happens in Cupid the 8th book in this series.

The seventh book in the Supernatural Chronicals. Hailey is set to become the leader of her clan once she hones her Necromancer skills. She needs help from the dead for her piece to the puzzle. I enjoyed this one a lot. I for one haven't read much on Necromancers so it was different and I liked it. Definitely one of my favorites!

Very well written. I was a little sad that the main character had to give up her friend as an offering. Loved the book otherwise though.

Less action than the other books in the series and more about learning to move forward through grief and become the person you were meant to be. Still a good quick read.
