High up in the lonely Rocky Mountains of Colorado stands the crumbling ruin of Long Brook Sanatorium. The last living patient may have left decades ago, but the restless ghosts of those who died there have remained behind, trapped between worlds in this remote and forgotten place. Fourteen year-old Danny Chill is a Deadseer. Gifted – some would say cursed – with the ability to see into those planes of existence which lie just beyond our own and communicate with their inhabitants, Danny is reluctantly drawn to the long-abandoned sanatorium. As night falls and the spirits of the dead prowl the haunted rooms and corridors once more, Danny and his friends find themselves in a race against time to uncover the truth. Who is the demented surgeon that once experimented upon thousands of helpless patients in the operating room? What binds their tormented souls to this place, never to find eternal peace? And just what nameless horrors lurk in the darkness of the basement? In his quest to find answers and lift the curse of Long Brook once and for all, the Deadseer will clash with a malevolent supernatural force that is prepared to fight to the death…and beyond.

I'm a 48-year-old child who has no plans to ever actually grow up.

I make my living as a paramedic, clinical educator, for a busy hospital system and work as a street medic in a 911 system.

In my free time, I serve as the director of the Boulder County Paranormal Research Society, and investigate claims of haunted properties, people, and objects on both sides of the Atlantic. I love to read, particularly SF/Fantasy, history and historical fiction, the paranormal, and basically anything that piques my interest. I appear on the TV shows Haunted Hospitals, Paranormal 911, Paranormal Night Shift, Haunted Case Files, and several others.

I am an avid video gamer, table-top gamer, and love to build Lego. My wife and I are the proud humans of five adopted rescue cats and one smelly but adorable dog.

A riveting and spell binding ghostly story!

I absolutely loved this ghostly story!! Right
from the start it captured my attention and
I was hooked until the end. The story line
was phenomenal and definitely kept me on
the edge of my seat all the way through. I'm
totally addicted to Mr. Eagle's books! He's so
brilliant with his words and descriptions of
everything going on that he makes you feel
as of you're there experiencing what's going
on. I'm definitely adding him to my most
favorite authors and series book!!!

Do yourself a favor ... stop browsing here and go get this book. If you like paranormal fiction, this is SUCH a fun read. If it's not labeled as a YA book, it should be. However, it's quite enjoyable for any age reader. :)

When I was asked to read a preview copy of this book in exchange for an honest review I was both happy and trepadatious to do so. There are very few young adult novels in the last 15-20 years that I have actually enjoyed enough to finish reading but since this was on a subject I am very familiar with, I put my past experiences aside and dove in.

As a descendant of generations of Appalachian granny witches I tend to cringe a little when I see someone writing about being a seer because so much of what is written is just wrong. That was not the case with Agonal Breath. While there might have been a point or two I disagreed with, that disagreement did not take away from my appreciation of the author’s research or enjoyment of this book. Mr. Estep immediately drew me in with his writing style and I didn’t really feel like I was “reading” but more like I was a witness to the conversations and events going on in the book, so much so I found myself talking out loud (sometimes yelling) while reading to give advice to Danny, Becky and Brandon.

As a historian on haunted locations for many decades I loved how he incorporated just about every myth there is about all the various tuberculosis sanitariums and as a paranormal investigator I cringed at the activity the threesome chose to partake in because it is one I lecture on endlessly, but, I had to remember their ages and the fact that I was the same way back in my day and the way it was presented showed some very good reasons exactly why I feel the way I do now. (I do not wish to give out spoilers, you will understand when you read the book.)

Normally I am very good at anticipating plot twists and I’m happy to say that even though I guessed one, there were a couple I did not see coming which makes me look forward to more adventures with Danny.

I recommend this book to the youth because it deals with some of the struggles they face today. I also recommend it to adults because it both shows us an inside glimpse of the mind of today’s teenager and reminds us that we were just like that a long time ago. Whether you’re an investigator or just a paranormal enthusiast this is a good read, the only reason it took me 2 days to finish it was because "life" got in the way. It is definitely a book I could have read in one sitting had "life" let me do it.

A fantastically tense and thrilling supernatural story for the Teen/YA audience. It is well plotted, coherent and with a great cast of characters that you will end up caring for and wanting to know more about. The story has a strong narrative thread that remains coherent throughout despite some excellent red herrings and plot twists. The author really knows how to build tension and it will make you jump, which is a good thing. It is not your average horror/supernatural book however, as it is thoughtful and begins a deep exploration of what it means to be able to talk to/see the dead as well as providing the usual type of thrills and spills. I can't wait for the next book. Recommended for both girls and boys aged 12 and up.
