This was fast-paced and pretty fun, but I'm not sure how they are going to wrap things up in a satisfying manner.

Once again, the complexity of the relationship between the twins isn't as well explored as I'd like. I wanted a longer manga, allowing for more character depth and development. This story could be a 4 star read if it wasn't for its length. I vaguely remember the anime made me feel the same; I'm predicting the 5th and final volume will leave the same aftertaste.

The tonality is definitely very different from the anime, and I'm still really struggling with the pacing. Artwork is still gorgeous though.

Review for complete series

In this Blood: The Last Vampire spin-off, Saya has no memory of her previously blood-filled life; she is now an ordinary high schooler who bickers with her siblings. But it's not long until her past catches up with her and she is once again fighting against blood-sucking monsters. But having lived as an ordinary human has changed her perception of the world and humans.

Blood+ is yet another work in the Blood universe that I have purely picked up to know more about Saya who I enjoyed in Blood C. It's not a manga I would usually pick as I am no major fan of horror and splatter. In the case of this adaptation, I also wouldn't have picked it up due to the art. There's nothing wrong with the art at all - it's neatly drawn and well proportioned - it just doesn't appeal to me personally. I also don't appreciate Saya's short hairstyle, I always considered her long hair iconic to her.

I felt that Blood+ was more character-driven than the other adaptations I am familiar with. In a way, that's good - I care more for a character-driven plot than lots of gore. That being said, while there was a solid cast of characters with distinct personalities, perhaps 5 volumes was too short to explore them thoroughly. At the same time, I am glad that it wasn't longer as, ultimately, it wasn't my cup of tea.

I would say that this is definitely not a bad manga and probably pretty good if picked up by the intended audience. For me, it was an ok manga that I merely read as a means to an end rather than being genuinely invested in this version of Saya.

Not as much happens in this volume, they are still fighting on the ship, until various groups get evacuated and the ship sinks. It was still a really fun read though and everything is building toward the finale in the next volume.

Idee: 5/5

Charaktere: 3/5

Logik: 2/5

Spannung: 1/5

Emotionen: 1/5

Gesamt: 2/5

Diva is certainly stepping up her initiative. Riku's kidnapped yet again and Saya's trying to fight going berserk. In that state she's unstoppable and will kill anything, friend or foe. She continues to struggle with her nature mentally. All of the death causes her a lot of anguish. I'm not sure if that makes her annoying for some or not, but I just feel bad for her. How much more can the poor girl take before she completely breaks?

I think the screen time given to Diva helps the reader understand her character better and perhaps sympathize with her just a smidgen. She isn't completely in the driver's seat, so you sort of imagine how it is for her merely being a socially stunted puppet.

Haji's character is more proactive in this series as opposed to the anime, which I love. In the anime it's more about doing only what Saya tells him to do. Here he takes initiative and I really love how he establishes himself as her lover.

Themes of this manga are disturbing, namely child rape and murder, so this series may not be for you if you can't stomach that in fantasy. But if you want to read a not-so-typical vampire story, this one comes recommended.

Blood+, Volume 4 is brimming with emotion and violence from beginning to end. I am so sad that this is the second to last volume in this series. I don't want it to end as I've become attached to the story and characters, especially Charles, Hagi, and Kai.

I love Kai's stubbornness and his willingness to do anything for his family. His dedication to his loved ones reminds me a lot of Ichigo Kurosaki. His headbutting tough-love is silly, but I love it.

Oh, poor Charles! I really feel sorry for this kid. I wish the series was longer so there could be some sort of redemption for all the wrongs he has had to endure.

The only reason this didn't get a five-star rating is because I find the Diva character preposterous. I understand she's been raised in "nature" so she lacks certain social skills, but I would think it would make her more vicious instead of such a dimwit.

It is revealed that Saya's twin wants to turn the whole world into Chiropterans, and destroy Saya's life. In order to find Riku they are forced to journey to Vietnam, and to confront the past that she has ultimately forgotten. That is until her nature is activated by the blood of her nemesis' minions. If she can be awakened, Saya would turn on her friends and family and make it possible for her twin to easily take hold.

I can't believe there is only one more volume before the series is over.

This volume is full of more blood, but I found it a little lacking. I think it's because things are building up to the final battle between Saya and Diva, so a lot of set up for that was happening in this volume. Also, the absence of Charles is noticeable. He added such a dimension to the story that isn't seen with the other characters. Still an amazing story, regardless of the slight imperfections.

Hagi and Kai rival for Saya's attention. Powers behind the scenes are desperate to see the result of a chiropteran mating and try and force to get Diva to mate with newly turned Riku. We also get the first face off between Saya and Diva. It finally hits home that Saya intends to kill her twin and then herself. Complex/interesting story, though again not my favourite artwork.

The flash back aspect of this was nice. Learning Saya, Hagi, and Diva's backstory was really interesting, as well as you can feel tension-wise that we are getting closer to the Climax!
I would really like to see Saya and Hagi end up together, but I get the feeling that other kid is going to get in the way!
Oh well, great read even though I am not a huge fan of Kai's character.

It's been a while since I read the first three volumes but it was easy enough to get back into. A lot of things were going on and I don't know if it seemed that way because I hadn't read the others in so long or if it was because they were trying to wrap things up quickly in the series.
