I am the Princess of Ravens, but soon I shall be Queen. I am the keeper of the songs for my people, but soon I must sing the song of the dead for my brother. I am the one the world looks to, but I am also what they fear.
They just don't know it yet.
My enemies play a dangerous game. And soon they will regret their dance with the Raven.
This is a novel that takes place between House of Ravens and Daughter of Strife, from the point of view of Princess Corinne.

I believe these books keep getting better and better!! This duo has such chemistry and it really shows! This bridge grabs your heartstrings and pulls you back into their elaborate world so fast and hard that you just don't want it to end! They have mastered my heartbreak and show you their version of how royalty would handle dire situations. I can't get enough!! It was so beautiful I cried! Kudos!!! Keep them coming because this world and the epic world is where I live now!
Song of Kai, a novella between books 2 and 3 of the Nightfall Chronicles is a well written addition to the Nightfall world. Written from the perspective of Corrine, the title of the book makes you think it will be all about her sadness over the death of her brother Kai. While this is somewhat true, what this book really does is introduce Corrine as a major player in the coming Nephilim conflict.
Everything that was hinted at in the previous books – her inner strength, growing power, caring heart, and willingness to sacrifice herself for those she loves is fully realized in this book. Although I’ve always liked Corrine the character - now I am really rooting for Corrine, the future queen and hidden Nephilim. It doesn’t hurt that she might just now have a genius in her corner as well (hint, hint)! Probably the most frustrating thing about this book is the fact that I still don’t know what to think about King Varian. I’ve gone from hating him, to understanding him, to now thinking he might be ok – then in this book we learn he let something horrible happen and I’m right back to not liking him. I just wish we could figure out where exactly he fits!
Varian grumbles aside, this book is another great read in the Nightfall series. Now we just have to wait for Daughter of Strife to find out what happens next.
All I can really say is wow! Princess Corinne is pretty amazing. Admittedly I really no opinion of her until The Song of Kai. Cornnie just seem just an ordinary person, despite being a princess. She just seem to live her friends and family. It shows that I was wrong as she encounters people from her past and as she remembers Kai and uses that hee strength She been through so much at a such age. I wanted to go into the book and stab her father in the face more than once (than agian I might have violent tendency to characters I don't like.) I find myself growing more of a disdain Varian more and more. At first he seemed just like and stubborn character with a touch of arrogance. But it is plain obvious the he is just an ambitious jerk that only cares for himself, even though he may seems apologic but it seem half-hearted. But on the bright side Cornnie seem as she will make an amzing queen. She seems to be fair and tries to keep a unbiased opinion. But let's not forget about the romance be ween her and Jace. But I think he might be hiding something more than he let's on, still I like Cornnie and Jace together. But just pick the Song of Kai and read it would be the perfect bridge until the next book.
The Nightfall series is by far a swoon worthy set of novels. It not only is a great fictional read, but it takes you away on a mental adventure and leaves you completely breathless.
This bridge novel is no different. Song of Kai, which is between Night of Nyx and Daughter of Strife, takes you away from the real world, into a fantastical, epic realm.
It is in Princess Corinne's point of view, and gives you an insight into her world. We are introduced to new characters that also give more life to this ever growing fictional world. Emotions run wild in this story, much like the entire series. It will leave you breathless and gripping on to every word that Karpov Kinrade writes.
This novel fills in some holes while you read it, so I think it would be a great read for any fan of the Nightfall series. It might not be a mandatory read, but it increases the interest in this beautifully written world so I suggest everybody who picks up the Nightfall series reads it.
It also teaches readers an important lesson - not everything is as it seems. A royal princess can easily be a butt-kicking, fierce protecting warrior.
Just to start: wow again. I started reading Song of Kai knowing I was going to cry before it was over. And yes, I was right. This book is told from Corinne's point of view - the princess who became Scarlett's friend. And even from her point of view, their world isn't a nice place at all. From the very beginning, we have memories and pieces of Corinne's and her brothers' past. A not-so-small detail from the first book is explained here, and I loved how it all fit. And, of course, we have politics and problems. Corinne's past isn't made of flowers, I'll say only this. She finds herself in the middle of the problems in her homeland, and trying to solve them to avoid being forced to marry someone she can barely tolerate. I loved seeing her in action, seeing the pieces of her past and how it all came together. And I loved how the romance in the book worked out - nothing forced or insta-love. And once again: the ending. Seriously, those endings are going to drive me crazy. I didn't expect it, but after I read it I was like "how didn't I see this coming?". Another awesome book, a great addition to the series, and I can't wait for the next one.
**I was given this book as an ARC in return for an honest review**
I loved this book. Reading from the point of view of Corrine, the Princess of Ravens gave us incite into the newest member of Nightfall's court. As a reader I got to know Corrine and see things from her perspective. I loved being able to see a bit of how Corrine, Kai and Wytt got to grow up and was a bit surprised to learn that Corrine also knew someone that Scarlett also met when she was younger. It was very interesting to see how intertwined the characters lives are. It was also interesting to meet a new character in Jace and I am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses. I can't wait to see how the story progresses as we continue to see what happens in the court. Learning some of the reasons for the animosity between the Raven children and the King has also been interesting as well as learning that the King and the Pop are not infallible. I loved this book, the series and I am looking forward to seeing what Karpov Kinrade comes up with next.
If you are like me you don't like to read the between the main novel novellas, especially when written from a point of view other than the normal main character. With that being said this book is definitely worth taking the time to read. It is a bridge book for the nightfall series taking place between books 2 and 3, written from the perspective of Princess Corinne. Before reading this book I didn't really care for Princess Corinne as a character. But this book gives excellent insight into her life before she starts training in the order and why she believes in the things she does. You see that while she wants to change things in the way the government functions she realizes that for now she is just a pawn in the political game and is controlled by her father. She is slowly coming into herself and deciding that she is no longer going to be a pawn and wants to change thing. To me this is an amazingly written novel that has great character progression for the characters in this series. I look forward to reading more from the princess' point of view.
WOW! I liked Princess Corrine before but I absolutely love her now! We have seen the depth of her character, such a strong, independent, brilliant, kind and caring woman. I loved finding out the pieces of Kai's, Corrine's, and Wytt's childhood. Some were light and happy but some were dark and heartbreaking. You find out why Kai really hated his father, and question how Corrine could stand to look at him. I really enjoyed the new characters and can't wait to see more of Jace in the upcoming books. Pip's love and loyalty were called into play and he sacrificed something tremendous, but it just goes to show how much Corrine's friendship meant to him. It turns out that Corrine has had quite a few characters around her while she was growing up, shaping and molding and planning behind locked doors. Lots of surprises, twists and turns. The only problem with the story was that I finished it and now am stuck in limbo waiting for the next book!!! If you have not started this series I suggest you start, Karpov Kinrade have created a masterpiece with this series.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book has spoilers if you have not read any of the others in the series. Have you ever had a loved one die? Princess Corrine has and she had the honor of singing him into his afterlife. On a break while in mourning we get the chance to learn more about Corrine and the role she plays in the whole story. This book tells of the struggles she has to deal with when coming to terms with her new powers and the pressure of her position in the royal family collide. I loved this book. There were parts that were sad, with the loss of Kai and his song, but there were parts that were hopeful as well. We get to meet Jace and speculate on what will happen between him and Corrine. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of dystopian fantasy. If you have not read the other books then I would suggest starting at the beginning with the Court of Nightfall to get the full effect of the story though.
Well, the third book was a bit disappointing. After that spectacular cliffhanger, i jumped into the third book. And it felt like getting an ice-water bucket thrown over my head. I was expecting an epic finally. Instead of a continual of the main story, i got a short novella of Corinne in her POV making a short trip to London to bury Kai. Well, the memory of Kai is still heartbreaking, but yeah... That was book 3? Sigh, at least it states here in GR and on my kindle it was. It's not even half that long... It was not bad and we got more background about the Royal family and new discoveries like the Tribunal. I was constantly wondering which role Myrddin played. But yeah, not what i was expecting. Especially while there is not a date set for the release of the next book. I normally never read series when they are not fully published.
Perfect addition to the series from Corinnes pov. You really feel the struggle and grief that has stricken the family. It has a great twist in it and hopefully the next one will continue to add to the plot.
WOW I loved this book. I enjoyed Reading this from the point of view of Corrine She is amazing. These books just keep better and better i can't wait for the next one to come out this has got to be one of my favourite series this year.
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
I know I say it all the time but there is nothing else I can say when I have read a book by the husband and wife writing duo team of Karpov-Kinrade but they have done it again. They have written another amazing book. Song of Kai will take a hold of you right from the very beginning and will not let you go even when you have read the last word. It will hold on to you long after you have read the last word and maintain that hold right up until the next book in the series.
In Song of Kai we get to know more of Princess Corinne, Prince Wytt, and Prince Kai along with some new characters as well as some of the old ones too. Corinne takes us on a journey into the past with her two brothers when they were children growing up in the House of Ravens. She told us about some of the things her and her twin brother Wytt would get into and how their older brother Kai was always there hovering over them like a mother hen. Kai was a great big brother and would lay down his own life for either one of his siblings and they would do the same for him as well.
Corinne was a very strong person and had a lot of things on her plate some she liked and some she didn't. But she always stood up for what she thought was right and what she believed in. She would fight for family and friends with the same vengeance if they were on the side of what was right.
Song of Kai is filled with love and violence with lots of twist and turns that will have you crying one minute and laughing the next so hard that your belly will be hurting. It is definitely one of those that will keep you on your toes wanting and dreading what is going to pop out at you on the next page. But you will love it not matter what it is or maybe not.
Just when you think you may have all the characters figured out then something happens that makes you wonder if you are on the right track. The authors or the characters will take you down one road and then you end up at a fork in the road and you think they are going to take one road and they end up taking another. And then you are all confused and upset so that you don't know which way to turn. You just throw up your hands and slap yourself in the face with your mouth open and finally you are like no way that did not just happen.
As I said some of the characters will fool you and you are not sure about them. They are real good at keeping who they are a secret. Like I think King Varian has a lot more to tell us. King Varian has not played all of his cards yet and the man sure does like a good game of chess. King Varian has so far showed us what a bad person he can be but I have this feeling about him that there is something not quite what it seems about him. I think that man has a lot yet to be revealed. I would love to hear what he has to say in his own words in a book of his own when everything is said and done and his story has come to light.
I cried and cried for Corinne, Wytt and Scarlett when Corinne had to sing Kai's song. My heart ached for all of them. Corinne's story is a great addition to The Nightfall Chronicles. I would love to have Wytt's and King Varian's story as well or at least have Wytt's pov. I love reading each characters pov. You get to know how they feel and how they see things.
I can't wait to read the next book in The Nightfall Chronicles; Daughter of Strife. If you have not read Song of Kai then I suggest that you grab a copy today but I think you would enjoy Corinne's story so much better if you started with Scarlett's story in Court of Nightfall first and read your way up to the Song of Kai so that you can understand more of what is happening in everyone's lives.
Corrine is no stranger to heartache. She's put up with the loss of her mother, her father's constant indifference, as well as a slew of other torments along the way. Her recent loss, however, is one she'll feel many times over. Still, she can't fault Nightfall for what's happened. The nephilim saved her life, after all, but that doesn't make things any easier for her now that she knows the truth.
Continuing where Night of Nyx left off--of sorts--we learn a little more about Corrine and her dysfunctional family. The princess's life hasn't been an easy one, but she's made do with the family she's been saddled with. This is a constant theme throughout the book, not only for Corrine, but also for Nightfall and the friends she's made along the way.
Karpov Kinrade have shown us that despite the difficulties these characters experience, they're determined in sticking together, no matter what. We learn a little more about Corrine's past, as well as what made Kai who and what he was. Added into the mix is the fact that we get to see Nightfall, Zorin, and the rest of her team grow a little more each day. Granted, the chaos that surrounds them is still there, but each and every one of them is determined in setting all wrongs to right somehow.
I do wonder as to what will happen next for Nightfall and the rest of them. Will they be able to make Varian see the error of his ways before it's too late? Looking forward to what this wonderful writing duo has in store for us next.
"The dead always weigh heavier on us than the living." They do, especially Kai's death. But in this book you will get a lot of happy memories along with the mourning and I think that's a great lesson in life. It's written from the point of view of Princess Corinne, Raven in Nightfall's crew. Her (future) kingdom is attacked by Nico Rex and he's following a plan that could destroy orders. Not her only threat though.
This is the fifth book of the Nightfall chronicles I've read and there hasn't been one without grammar or spelling mistakes. I don't know if it's the ebook's fault or the authors', but it's frustrating. So is the neverending use of "very well". I'm still a fan of the series and hope I won't have to wait too long for the next adventure.
I like the story line. Read all books in the series. But it goes from saying all food tastes like ash (said by Scarlett) in the first book after being changed to nephilium to all the delicious food they are enjoying at dinner. Another example in the second book how all of a sudden the coffee tastes wonderful to Scarlett but in the first book after her change it tasted horrible. A great story line but so much needs to be edited and developed. And there are hints to stories that were never explained or developed in previous books. I only gave it a 3 due to the storyline but it reads more like a rough draft.
Scarlett loses someone she loves, and has to make peace with that, but it is very difficult. The Princess has lost her big brother, her protector. She's "been turned" by her best friend, instead of her brother. She is trying to take it all in....process it....and learn whatever she can. But still, she carries on. The series is so good, I started to read this book again, when I was looking over the plot, for things to tell you. But instead of giving you another synopsis, in different words, I just tell you again......you are missing out if you do not read this series!!
I certainly hope this is not the end?? Varian had left Nightfall with a challenge as well as, Nightfall has not chosen who see will be with.. ugh This book was amazing in its own right. Showing us the views from Raven's POV. It's such a brilliantly written book. I love the fantasy and imagination that went into this Series. Can't wait to find out if there is more to come. So many unanswered questions!
With the Twists and turns. This entire series has so much excitement and surprises, I just love this couples way of writing. I never know what will surprise me next!! This is a great read, just remember you might find a surprise from the past appear and you might find the unexplained in a place least expected!!!!
Definitely ready for the next book after reading this one! This husband and wife writing team know how to keep you coming back for more. I'm hoping the next book will be a full length novel, as I go through the novellas way too quickly; the story is just that good and makes you want more
It was interesting to see things from Corrine's perspective. I enjoyed the bits of backstory and learning how Corrine and her siblings lived. Could have been longer but it was a nice story. I will miss Kai in future stories.
In “Song for Kai” Princess Corinne’s eldest brother is dead, and her friend Scarlet saved her life by turning her into a Nephilim. In London for her Kai’s memorial service with twin brother Wytt, best friend Scarlett and father King Varian she is persuaded to enter into an arranged marriage with Norin, a Prince of Crows. Pushed into an intolerable situation she makes a deal with her father to uncover the identity of the revolutionary who destroyed the second largest A-Techlab, a source of wealth for King Varian’s kingdom that’s run by playboy entrepreneur Jake Whitman.
The plot heats up as the time for the wedding draws closer and the terrorist kills Jake’s chief researcher while going after him at a royal function. In a dangerous game that could mean her death Corinne, Princess of Ravens must concoct a plan to catch the killer who wants to topple the patrician class, save Jake’s life, and stop her political marriage.
Narrated by Corinne who has flashbacks into her past relationship with Kai and her father, the plot is filled with twists that keep you intrigued from start to finish. Intensity and suspense escalate when she makes a deal with her father to find the terrorist Nico Rex before he unleashes a serum that could destroy GenMod and Zenith abilities instead of marrying a Prince of Crows. Short in length but skillfully paced, the plot progresses quickly and smoothly to an exciting finish.
The team of Karpov Kinrade masterfully create characters that are complex and compelling like Corrine, the Princess of Ravens who’s strong-willed and feisty; her twin brother, the sensitive, wise and kind Wytt; and the enigmatic Jake Whitman who’s not the egocentric playboy he’s portrayed as.
King Varian in this plot demonstrates another side to his character that’s far from the ambitious, arrogant, self-centered father that his actions have previously evoked while in comparison Prince Norin, who tries to blackmail Corinne into marrying him is a cold, cruel bully.
I enjoyed “Song of Kai” and intend to continue reading this series.
Gorgeous and full of adventure, drama, young love. Now these are superheroes I can get behind.
Gorgeous and full of adventure, drama, young love. Now these are superheroes I can get behind. NIGHTFALL Chronicles are just what I needed. And I think I cried harder reading Corinne's story than the HOUSE OF RAVENS, which left me in a puddle of my own tears , but I adore! High praise for SONG OF KAI!💖👏💖🌌🌠
