Falling Star

Rate this book
I met Byron when I was 10 years old. Even then I knew he was special; he was a shining star in our small town. Now it is our Senior year of high school and he is slipping from my grasp. He never smiles anymore. I think he is depressed, but how do you bring that up to someone? He knows that I love him. If only he would let me in. I hope he asks for help soon...

Falling Star is based on true events that happened in the author's life, and is written to bring more awareness to teen depression. It is a young adult novel about finding yourself that is filled with love, friendship, and heartbreak.

H.B. Catherine is also currently running the #EMBRACEYOURSELF campaign where all proceeds go to a foundation for helping with depression and suicidal thoughts. www.hbcatherinewriting.com

Absolutely wonderful book!! Very well written and an easy read for all ages.. (When I say "easy" I am referring to the style of writing- NOT the subject!!) The struggle Ella faces in coping with the loss of a friend/piece of her heart is heart breaking. She teaches us how to live again and love again after tragedy- a life lesson we will all have to face at some point in our lives.. Worth the read!! Be sure to pick this one up soon!

Hauntingly beautiful and profoundly life changing. Falling star is not what I expected. Teenage love and high school crushes, parties and underage drinking, I thought I had it figured out in the first couple of chapters. I was wrong. Few books prompt tears as often as genuine laughs but this book made me feel, deeply, and I cannot stop thinking about it.

At first I was shocked by the way the story unfolds and the reality of suicide. I have never lost anyone I loved or cared about in that way. I have always thought of suicide as selfish and stupid. I had a very definite opinion. One I thought was concrete. But as I found myself reeling and devastated by loss, front and center with Ella, I realized that my preconceived notion needed to be reevaluated.

I loved this book, as heart breaking, haunting, and terribly sad as it was, it made me feel and it helped me to understand. I love the way it is written. I love the quirks. The innocence at times and the truth of human nature are so gut wrenching and real, it made me pause and take a break often, just to wipe the tears from my eyes. I feel like I went through the experience with her. I loved Byron. I suffered the loss. I felt anger and devastation at his choice. I became depressed and wanted to retreat from the world. I dug myself out of the pit of despair and let joy and love back into my life again. I mourned his loss and I held his memory close to my heart, learning from a tragedy that nearly stole my own life away.

I felt EVERYTHING. And I am sure that was the intention of the author and her beautiful writing.

So now I am saying READ this book. BUY it. SHARE it with others. PASS it around. The story is too important. The message is life changing. Lives might be touched and healed with the message, just as the author was herself.

Who knows? Maybe this story could reach another falling star before its too late.

Not bad for a first effort. However, the many grammar and usage errors detract from the narrative. This could have resulted from poor editing by the publisher. In any case, I found them distracting.
