I don't have time for men when I'm raising my daughters alone – especially an obnoxious jerk like my new neighbor, Quentin.
Tattoos, muscles, ego. I told him to move his car and he sprayed me with a hose. We make each other furious, and he gets me wet.
I should have slapped him, but I let him drive me to work instead. He ended up driving me wild.
He won't share his number, tell me what he does... but one look and I'm begging to be his, one touch and my panties hit the floor.
I know he's wrong for me, but he feels so right. I'm falling for the bad boy next door.
---
I kill people for a living. I never thought I'd get in trouble for refusing to murder someone.
I was supposed to kill all the witnesses. When I couldn't pull the trigger on an innocent girl, I became a marked man.
Now, I'm stuck in the 'burbs, laying low and trying to blend in.
Just one problem – my new neighbor, Rose.
She showed up on my porch complaining about my car. I had to slam the door in her face before I pulled her inside, pinned her to the wall, and took every sweet inch of her.
I shouldn't do this. I shouldn't let her in. But I can't stop thinking about this firecracker moaning underneath me every waking second. I'm poison to her and I don't need a girl, but when I lay eyes on her all I want is to keep her in my bed forever and pleasure her until she forgets her own name.
She's mine and nobody's taking her from me. I'll put my lips all over this woman if it's the last thing I do.
Uhm, yeah would you lick like a side of finger fuck with your quarter pounder and fries?
For fucks sake that has to be the absolute most weird sex scene I've ever read in my life! Finger fucking over McDonald's nuggets and burgers? Really? I seriously could've lived without ever reading that shit or remembering it as I'm getting my kids a happy meal. No! Just fucking no!
And then she actually asks... "Was this a date?"
Yes, bitch, McDonald's followed by being fingered by someone you've known less than 24 hours most certainly counts as a date ..... It just usually involves the 15-year-olds band geek and the quarterback, not the 30-something single mom and a paid killer.
Anyhoo,
The more I read, the worse the cumulative weirdness & nonsensical shit here is getting.
It's All Nonsense & Irrational Bullshit
Like this...
•She's a single mom.
• She and her now ex husband lived in a fancy pants gated community house, and she still lives there now with her two kids.
• She has to put up with sexual harassment at her receptionist job because it's like the only job on the face of the planet.
•She doesn't have a car and has to take hour long bus ride back and forth to work.
• She often can't afford to feed herself and her kids. She can't even afford to take em to McDonald's. Money, specifically being broke as shit, is a constant complaint here.
YET....
• She is still living in this gated ritzy community with a mortgage that's has to be 20X's higher and comes with HOA Fees, higher utilities, property taxes, etc. than if she would move to an apartment. I mean she's living in a gated community WHILE SHE CANT AFFORD A DECENT MEAL?!?
• She equates losing her house to losing her kids to her ex, while ignoring the fact if all her money wasn't going into the monstrosity of a house THEN she could afford food, a babysitter, a car, etc and her ex wouldn't have any ammo to take the kids.
This may seem like a trivial plot point, but SO MUCH attention is stressed with how fancy the community is, how broke she is, and that her ex is a threat to take her kids that it's impossible not to think about the absurdity & nonsense of it constantly as the bizzzaro romance and primary plot points are being played out.
If it was just that, it would be irritating, but I could deal with it. Sadly, however, nearly every element in reading has this same nonsensical, unbelievable, melodramatic, bullshit feel to it that leaves you going WTH & WTF every other sentence.
WTH?
Her pervy boss is all but licking his lips and wanking off at her 14-year-old kid and she SAYS NOTHING, isn't worried about it in the least, and is only concerned about losing her job. Wth?
WTF?
A strange, angry new neighbor yells at you, then offers you a ride. A) you take the ride. B) moments later you entrust said neighbor with getting your kid to school ALONE. C) you allow said stranger to finger fuck you a few hours later in a McDonald's parking lot D) the next day you ask neighbor to watch your kids ALONE after school. E) 48 hours later you literally have him playing dad in all ways to your kids. F) you have a nervous breakdown over him calling it quits 48 hours in and basically allow your 14-year-old to give you man advice and do your mom duties as she watches you fall apart. YET, you are "worried" your ex is going to take your kids from you?!? Well, maybe he fucking should!
He is trying to lay low but kidnaps and threatens to torture two mf'ers that could've just as easily gone to the police vs following his orders. Uhm, okay.
Sex?!? I dont know?
There's a damn lot of finger fucking and sucking going on here for no one to actually be getting laid. McDonald's was weird as fuck. The one thrust scene in the bosses office made me want to choke this conceited fucker. That's not teasing... It's cruel & far from sexy. The "beg for my cock" scene... No words can aptly express how bad this shit is getting. There's dragging anticipation out for a sex scene and then there's this shit that just isn't even fathomable.
Can I Make It To 50%?
Another reader told me that it gets better after 50%. May be... I dont know?!? I'm at 32% writing this review because it's just so bad that I feel I have to rant and curse lest I die from the volcano of anger building up in me at these asinine characters and utterly ridiculous pomp.
Was Anything Good?
Believe it or not, I really do hate to write bad reviews. But, damn if they just ain't necessary for bullshit like this book. Being fair, however...
Broadly speaking on the most basic of ideas here, the overall plot idea of the assassin finding love in the burbs with a single mommy as he is hiding out from the big bad wolf of assassins is a good storyline.
I think that the male MC's voice and personality had a nice blend of alpha crude asshole and sensitive inner softie. His words were often rough but actions thoughtful, especially concerning the kids. Given another setting, he could've been an okay character.... while she was a hopeless twit.
That's about all the good I can muster, regrettably.
That said...
IF I ever manage to come back and make it to the 50%, I'll certainly update this review. But, as its stands... DNF at 33%.
Cute and sexy story. -full length, standalone book (though it ends at 55%) PROS: -interesting storyline: hitman meets single mother and falls for her & her girls. -steamy sex scenes, including anal sex, bondage, spanking -hot assassin H has a heart of gold and turns into Mr.mom...and likes it -the bad guy was OTT sadistic & creepy, though uncomfortably graphic w/ his violence -sweet HEA ending, no cliffhanger CONS: -several inconsistencies and editing errors -h is kind of an awful, irresponsible, neglectful mother -entire books takes place in only a weeks time -H has a detailed sex scene with OW before meeting h
There were a few things that bugged me with this book and I would have rated it higher had they not been in there. First off I need to say how much I loved the story line. It had me on the edge of my seat and hooked. I was flying through the story and wanted more. What stopped me in my tracks was the author mixing up the daughter's names in the conversation. For example the youngest daughter was up stairs but she was talking to her down stairs. She was meant to be talking to the oldest not the youngest. The name mix up happened a few times. The second thing was a huge game changer for me and dropped the rating and how I actually felt about the book. The mother who we have come to learn is protective of her children and worries that her ex husband will take them from her but yet she leaves the girls to wander around at a block party while she breaks into her next door neighbours house.... WTF? The scene then becomes hot and heavy, he CUTS her clothes off, be belittles her calles her a bitch and she doesnt react to being tied up and used. This AFTER he breaks her heart in the scene before... Another WTF? She then showers and puts on her clothes - These were cut up in the scene before... How can she put on cut clothes walk out the front and see her ex husband?? Unfortunately there are scene mix ups all through the book. Were one thing is written but swapped around... With a good BETA team, a little rewritting this will easily be a 5 star book. These mistakes stop it from being the perfect read.
One of my favorite by this author. I was intrigued from the beginning and could not put down. Storyline was suspenseful, entertaining and hot. Quentin is a hired killer on the run hiding out across the street from Rose, a divorcee with two girls. Rose while trying to care for her children puts up with a pervy boss and pain in the a** ex-husband. Quentin meets Rose and she turns his world upside down making him wish for what he doesn’t think is possible. Their mutual attraction leads to some steamy chemistry that you don’t want to miss. Hitman meet hot mom! Loved the characters. Loved the book! Received an ARC copy from author for a honest review.
Annoying h, likable H. Book ends on 55%, the rest are samples of other books from the author. Story was ok but a little bit unrealistic, plot was too shallow and too much focused on sex than romance. I don't think I will read any other books of this author.
This was a Funny,Romantic Suspense with a thriller mix Quentin was a hit man that did something that hit men just do not do and then he almost lost his life when he should have been paying a lot more attention and then barely got away with his life he moves on and winds up in the suburbs of Philly and next door to a divorcee Rose and her two children Karen and Kelly Rose is barely making ends meet as a receptionist at the Dentist office and he is so busy trying to get all the women in his office to have sex with him but Rose isn't having any of his old "A" but he is relentless she couldn't wait to get on the bus to get home in the evening but this evening she had the gate keeper to give her a lift to her house she notices that the new neighbor had a older model car and the Head of the Neighborhood Committee Mrs. Campbell would have it towed away if he didn't keep it in the garage because it could only be three years old to be in the driveway she went to Quentin's house and knocked and he was so rude when he answered but didn't care about what she had to say the next morning he sprayed her with the water hose accidentally gave her lift to work and then picked her up after Quentin realized that he liked Rose but getting involved was dangerous but he couldn't resist things get really comfy then he has a rendezvous with Rose's boss and make's sure that he understood what was required of him from then on as the days pass he receives a message from the friend that sewed him up in the past and he knew that he had to break it off with Rose and when he did he was as upset as much as if not more than she was and then he went to pickup a package that is friend had sent when he eventually returned he sees someone skulking around Rose's house and he grabbed the man and gave him third degree about why he was there he took care of that situation a couple of days later was the block party and the girls wanted to go Rose was suppose to go and she started out watching her girls next thing she is breaking into Quentin's house from then on things got sticky and dangerous since Quentin knows that his mentor has taken the contract out on him it is only a matter of time. This is a very interesting story. Recommend. Adult. I received a copy for an honest review.
I hate to say it, but this was such a disappointment. I clearly read a different book based on the high reviews. It starts out great, with fun snarky banter btwn the 2, BUT almost immediately they become physical and Quint instantly ingratiates himself in the lives of her and her 2 kids (who also instantly accept his presence.) Just very unrealistic and the love scenes went on and on ad nauseum. Ugh. THEN it just ends at 55% bc another book is introduced by the author. Can we say false advertising considering no where on amazon did it say it was included. Only redeeming factor is i paid 0.99. 1.5* weak weak* stars
I was given this book as an ARC and am sorry that it has taken me so long to finish but when I read " Which of your children do you love most" it took me almost a year to get back to this book. This is not a sweet romance but it is a romance. The bad boy does reform and the really bad boy and also ex does get what they deserve. It is a very good story - one just has to get pass that horrid statement -" Which of your children do you love most?", but is very much worthwhile and really well worth the effort. .

This author has no grip on reality when it comes to her stories. I understand that it's a fictional story but this is just too much. Her outlandish plots are unbelievable and the reader ends up shaking their heads and thinking "Really?"
Loved the idea of the story line- alph assassin falls in love with single mom in burbs BUT.... the whining & dominated sex scenes were not very sexy. Not consistent & weak heroine Just not my type.
It was neither horrible nor amazing, and pretty predictable too. I did finish this book, but I doubt I will go on to the next one in the series, even though this one ended with a bit of a cliffhanger too.
1) Boss leers at her 14 year old daughter and she doesn't say a word?
2) the kids are always alone or taking care of her when she has nervous breakdowns/falls asleep. She doesn't make them healthy food and has no interest in doing so or even seeing to the kids' most basic needs. Hell, there isn't even food in the house! Is gone constantly getting her degree and working, and instead of asking for help from ex husband, lets her grudges get in the way of the safety of her kids. What an immature narcissist this woman was! What gets me is that she deliberately made things harder for all involved by not taking some easy steps to make life better. If she was truly without options, I would understand, but these problems could have been solved. More below.
3) doesn't want her ex to have the kids, but falls into a quick relationship with some random dude and has him acting like daddy, ALONE with the kids, after like 15 minutes of acquaintance. Too stupid to live.
4) stays with boyfriend after he tells her he is a hitman and has killed many people. You see this shit in the news where stupid mom's new BF hurts her kids all the time in real life. What kind of loving mom makes booty priority over the safety of her children? Smh. They are out there, yes, but I really hate reading about moms like this as characters I am presumably supposed to like. Um, no. Get a vibrator.
5) works for a pervert because she lives in a huge house she can't afford. Also faces losing kids if she loses the house (a house she hates in a neighborhood she hates). Sell the GD house already! What the??? I don't get it. Mom's life and kids' lives would be greatly improved if she would have just sold the stupid house!
There are just so many things wrong here, I can't even. I'm guessing that the writer does not have kids and has no idea of what goes into raising kids. At all. Or the dangers that come with dating men when you have kids that most moms in modern times know well, and how most moms would never ever leave their kids alone with a random grown man they don't know well. This book gave me the willies and I kept thinking that her ex should probably have been granted custody of the kids.
Also, the sex scenes in this book were kinda strange. Someone already mentioned the McD's scene. Then the one pump at the dentist office. The scenes have this light BDSM feel to them, but they are all just blah. I'm not sure why the tying up and spanking is even present in the story. I guess because vanilla sex is so 2010? Now every sex scene in books has to involve spanking and surrender to a dom or sex is just not interesting enough. I'm over it. Not that I was ever into it in the first place. I blame EL James/50 Shades for all the crappy sex scenes I've read in the past several years. I think writers are all trying to outdo one another with who can write the edgiest sex descriptions, and most of time it's just ridiculous and falls flat. Doesn't anyone have sex without ropes and ball gags anymore? *sigh*
Rant over.

This was my first book by Abigail and I really wanted to love this book but in the end it was just ok for me. The story line was good just a little fast. I wish there would have been more of a story between Rose and Quentin but it all seemed kind of rushed while other parts dragged out that shouldn’t have. Rose and Quentin have a pretty much insta connection with each other. While Rose is scared because of the way her ex did her, Quentin can’t really commit because of the past he is running from. I did love Rose’s girls and I also hated her ex. At times, I didn’t really understand his part in the whole story. He just popped in every now and then.
Now as for some of the story, most of the time I can overlook certain things when it comes to editing but Rose kept calling her girls the wrong names. It wasn’t just one time either it actually happened at least six to seven times. Also a HUGE disappoint is when the book ended for me on my kindle at 55%!! I was like REALLY the other 45% is experts. I did enjoy the story overall. Quentin and Rose are both loveable characters but my heart couldn’t let me give more than a 3.5 but I will try more books from Abigail in the future.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
In this book we meet Quentin and Rose. Quentin is a hit man he knows this but he is a hit man with morals, no children. When his last job goes bad he thinks he got away clean, that is until someone shows up to eliminate him. So Quentin thinks it is time to lay low for awhile and ends up in suburbia, his version of hell or so he thinks. When he first meets his new neighbor he is rude to her but thinks to himself that she is hot. He knows he needs to lay low and make no attachments but it is hard when his neighbor is so hot and her girls keep making him want more.
Rose isn't sure what it is about her new neighbor that just makes her want strangle him and she already has to much on her plate to figure it out. Every-time she goes to help him she ends up mad and running late for something could be the fact that while it is all going bad she can't help but drule over him. Rose knows she doesn't have time to figure out her neighbor but the more time she spends with him the more she wants. To bad she doesn't know who he really is.
This is an great book that will have you hooked from the first word to the very last. I liked this book because not only does is show a great love story but it also shows one that has lots of problems. I like how this author didn't make it all hearts and flowers it was struggles and real work to have time to do it all in the day. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
What a terrific story that had elements of suspense thrills and erotic romance. Quentin was a man whose job was to be a hit man but he was a hit man with a conscience. He believes in not hitting women, standing up for the underdog and not using/hurting children. He moves in next door to a woman named Rose-she is divorced with two children. Rose is a beauty but she is tired all the time , working herself to death, trying to make money to keep a roof over herself and her kids heads. Quentin sees Rose and BOOM, it was like lightening. Quentin wants to protect and care for Rose and her kids. Things are going great but then Quentin’s enemies show up and all heck break loose.---- Then Rose’s boss and ex-husband also are thrown into the mix and are causing problems –Will this couple be able to navigate thru all the twists and turns and end up together or will the impending danger, the enemies and the past be the final nail in their blooming relationship to break them apart—for good? I really loved this book between we had a dark hero who found redemption with a heroine who needs his brand of loving in her life. The supporting characters are great and the ending is fantastic. What a fantastic read and I can’t wait to read more in by this author.
My rating: 4.6 stars **** ***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review****
This book will pull you in from the start, it's not only Hot but full of Suspense, and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat, you won't be able to put it down until you finish. Quentin is quite the bad boy, he doesn't put up with anybody's crap, and does whatever he wants, even though he knows someone is looking for him, and his days are numbered. When he meets his sassy sexy neighbor Rose, he doesn't realize she is about to turn his world upside down. And change things for him completely. Rose's boss Burt what a Fuc**** Scumbag I wanted to slap him more than once, someone really needed to put him in his place, no one wants to go to a dentist who is a pervert. Her ex husband what a selfish Idiot the way he treats her, she is such a good mother, he needs to have more respect for her. This is the first book I have read of Abigail Graham, and I have to say I can't Wait to read more of her books, She is awesome. Great book, Definitely Recommend it!
Rose is just getting by, she is working all day & going to school at night anything to feed her children. It has been hard on her & the girls as she doesn't have anything extra for treats or even good food. Her boss is a pervert and her ex is a pig. She has a new neighbour that is very rude even when she just wants to help him. Quentin is hiding and looking for a way to get out of here but his neighbour Rose attracts him to her and he can't get involved as there are people after him and he can't let them get Rose & the girls. Quentin realises too late that he loves Rose and he knows that he has to leave now before it is too late. Rose knows that he has to leave just as she is getting used to him been gone, trouble comes to her door. Can Quentin get them out alive even if it means him dying, he is hoping that he gets a chance to be a family with them. A great read of a second chance for all of them. I love Abigail's books I was lucky enough to get a copy in exchange for a honest review which I have no problem doing.
I received this book for an honest review. Quentin is on the run he made a mistake and now he's being hunted by his own peers that last thing he expected hiding out in suburbia is the fiery red head next door that he can't seem to get enough of. Rose has a lot on her plate, work, school, two teenage daughters and an ex who lives to torment her. She has no time in her life for men especially a pushy jerk like her new neighbor no matter how attractive he is. She's be better off if he walked away but what if he can't? Or what if it's already too late? Quentin was not who I expected him to be, yes he was rough and tough but he was also so comfortable with who he was his soft side wasn't something he hid but showed whenever he wanted. I couldn't help but like Rose, dealt a rough hand but making the best of it. She's strong, loving, and dedicated to her two little girls. This book was fast paced with plenty of heat and a lot of action. It is well written and kept my interest from beginning to end. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger and worth a one click!
Quentin Mulqueen is a hit man, but he made a drastic mistake on his last job. Now he has a price on his head, and the man who trained him to kill is after him. A friend sets him up with a safe house in a gated community. Rose Hayes is a divorcé with two daughters. She is struggling to make ends meet. She works for a chauvinistic dentist and is studying at night school. Unfortunately there are not enough hours in the day. This is a great romantic suspense. Our hero is not a nice man. His way of solving problems is a little too physical. He does have his own code. No one should harm women or kids. The people after him don´t care who they hurt . They kill viciously anyone who is in their way. Our heroine is over worked, under paid and completely worn down. Her girls are adorable and do their best to help mum. The hot bad tempered man next door is someone she has not got the time or the energy to deal with This has a surprising resolution to Quentin's problem. Lots of danger and some hot sex scenes. A very enjoyable read.
I’m really gonna try and finish this book due to the hero but it’s going to be an uphill battle due to the clinginess of the female protagonist. MY GOODNESS!!!! how freakin needy can one woman be. I’ve read books where the female protagonist were TSTL but she is one of the worst. First of all she can’t seem to survive on her own without a man. One would think that she learned that lesson when her first husband screwed her over. But no! not our fearless heroine (sarcasm intended). She latched onto the hero like a damn barnacle can we say Stage- 5 Clinger. I mean damn you just meet a man and you already have him babysitting your kids, bonding with them and picking you up from work. Like really you don’t even know what the man does for a living and you trust him to stay with your daughters OH HELL NO!!!. Then to top it off he tries to break up with you and you start crying and then your daughter starts begging him to stay and a next generation of Clinger is born. I hope as I attempt to finish this book that she gets some damn sense but I feel that its too late.
Hitman meets mature mom. This was sort of dark but with more. Will suck you in tone story from page one. Rose is struggling to make ends meet with her shifty office assistant to an older perverted dentist, night classes to get her bachelor degree in law, mother of two girls, ages 14 & 8, dealing with an ex husband that will do anything to hurt Rose by finding ways to take her kids away (dealing with his new countywide he slept with while he was married) and barely getting any sleep. Poor Rose life has been hell for a while. Then some jackass moved next door to change her life. Quentin is in hiding after a failed attempt on his life, his old teacher wants him dead for failing to kill woman and kids, now in suburbia with a hot neighbor but he can't do what he wants with one risking lives in case his mentor finds him and don't want to drag Rose and her kids in trouble. But his heart will follow a path that will make him crave a family that he never has since was young.
