On a brisk and blustery Halloween night, Sylvia and the Elm Creek Quilters gather at Elm Creek Manor, where Sylvia's sister-in-law, Agnes, shares an unsettling story from Bergstrom family history, a mystery that defies logical explanation. Could it be that the gray stone walls of Elm Creek Manor shelter the restless spirit of one of Sylvia's ancestors?New York Times-bestselling author Jennifer Chiaverini revisits the world of her beloved Elm Creek Quilt series in this spooky Halloween short.
Jennifer Chiaverini is the New York Times bestselling author of thirty-three novels, including acclaimed historical fiction and the beloved Elm Creek Quilts series. She has also written seven quilt pattern books inspired by her novels. About her historical fiction, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes, "In addition to simply being fascinating stories, these novels go a long way in capturing the texture of life for women, rich and poor, black and white, in those perilous years."
A fun short story with the characters of Elm Creek Quilts. Perfect for the Halloween season. Makes you long for another full length novel of the Elm Creek quilters.
Just a quick Halloween read that I downloaded on my Kindle at some time. It has not been given a number in the "series" and is a fun little tale of a Halloween party given one year. All the children from the community are invited and a fun time is had by all. After the party, a story is shared of some strange happenings at Elm Creek. Someone says she can solve the mystery, she knows what really happened...but she might be wrong. If you love the series, you can read this in 30 minutes or less. It was fun.
33 page short story about a Halloween party held at Elm Creek. After all the fun ends and the ladies of Elm Creek clean up, Agnes, Sylvia's sister-in-law, tells a ghost story about the time she and Sylvia's sister, Claudia, were young and making a quilt, using some scraps from the dress of a lovelorn relative. Every morning when the two young women went to do more stitching, all the stitching around that scrap had been removed. Nice, quick read. Always nice to spend time with the Elm Creek Quilters, although $1.99 for 33 pages seems a bit greedy.
Although I'm not big on Halloween, I love Jennifer Chiaverini's novels. I'm thrilled to say I have many of her novels yet to read. I love the quilting stories even though I'm not a quilter. I am a crocheter so I know what kind of dedication goes into a project though. I love the characters, location and plot. Jennifer Chiaverini weaves an intriguing novel. I recommend this to anyone who loves clean and fascinating novels - especially if you're a quilter or crafter.
A Halloween party at Elm Creek Manor for the local children provides the perfect setting for a ghost story remembrance. In this story Chiaverini shares past reflections to give new readers pertinent information and remind readers like me who have been away from the series of facts that may have been forgotten. It was entertaining, thoughtful, and had a touch of humor. Add to that the inclusion of quilt patterns and instructions for the quilt that was mentioned, and you have a real winner!
I just love the Elm Creek quilter series! Although I don't quilt, I love the stories about quilting and the friendships made during the seasons. Who knew Elm Creek Manor is haunted. All old houses make creaking sounds, but who or what would remove quilting stitches? Is the manor truly haunted with old ancestors coming back for a visit?
I Like this author and the way she puts words to paper. Reading a few of her other books I do like her history that is in the Lincoln books and talking to another historian they said this author does it good.
I like the way Diane was affected by the story. She is such a fun complex character. Agnes reminds me of my grandmother, who tried to be so proper, but would laugh about silly people.
This is a fun short read. It us a mystery and quilting book all on one plus characters that are interesting with real life qualities. I have read several of the author's books all I have enjoyed.
33 pages - poor story. Wouldn't have bought if I realized it was just 1 chapter - not a full book. Story had potential, but fell flat. One quilt pattern included (10 pages) to make the book 33 pages
This was the first Elm Creek Quilters story that I didn't absolutely love. First, it is an extremely short story. Second, the plot just seemed to be kind of thrown together. Third, it takes place on Halloween but there is nothing really spooky about it.
It was nice to be back with the usual quilters and was an okay read. It just wasn't the wonderful stories that I tend to expect about Elm Creek. There was a quilt pattern included.
I love all of the Elm Creek Quilt books. This was no exception. Keep them coming. I have read all of the books so far and have recommended them to friends and family. I have even told my teenage granddaughter about them.
I love all of the Elm Creek Quilters books. Keep them coming. They are great books for readers of all ages. I have recommended them to friends and even my 14 yr old granddaughter
A nice little Halloween story about the Elm Creek Quilters. Nice to be back at Elm Creek after all the other books, but keep in mind this is just a very short story (not an entire book) The book also contains a pattern to make the Chimney and Cornerstones quilt, mentioned in the book and displayed on the cover.
