Not more than one year after the Hunter’s Guild tried to have her executed, Kile Veller has been promoted and conscripted into the military. Assigned to Perha squad, under the command of Sergeant Rodney Wargner, she is sent into the Denal province to recon the fallen town of Coopervill. With twenty unseasoned soldiers, they must defend themselves against the amassing valrik forces, but there is something more sinister that stalks them. An ancient madness that wraps itself in the shadows of the natural world, is using Kile’s own Edge against her. It threatens to strip her of the one thing she has left, her own sanity. When friends are among the fallen, she must turn to new allies, or be lost in the shadows forever. And if that’s not bad enough, somebody has become enamored with the Wild Hunter.
4.5 stars! This book carries on from 'Hunter's Bounty', with Kile continuing on as a Hunter conscripted to the military. Her abilities continue to grow, as well as the darkness she's becoming more and more aware of. The effects on her mental state are explored as well as some of the truth behind her lineage (her Orceen blood). I'm seriously in love with this series even though it contains little to no romance (which are the books I usually read). After reading all 4 in a row, it is safe to say I am obsessed with Kile Veller and her compadres. Grim is by far my favourite character in this series followed closely by Vesper. The only thing I'd say I was disappointed by, is the fact that I thought this was the last book in the series so I thought everything would be all sorted at the end. But it's also a plus because it means I get to read more about Kile and the unique world she lives in. I'm kind of excited to read about her experiences in the mystic tower which is where the next book is set I assume. But then it's a negative again because I have to wait for who knows how long, before I can read the next book :( All complaining aside, I will definitely be reading the next book!
I like the structure and storyline. On the first read through I seldom notice, typos, grammar or spelling issues. This read they are obvious and I have marked as many as I could. Any reissue should please have proof reading before issue. That said, the story line is interesting and books are worth time for escape. Funny, adventurous and entertaining.
A nice coming of age story that I really enjoyed reading. I usually dislike books where the antagonist are bullies. It makes me feel too much the helplessness of the character to enjoy the rest of the story. This was nicely readable, and the story really worked well, and the characters moved in a believable way.
I also liked the maturity and growth of the characters.
This series gives me what I want (A calgon take me away stories. .)
I couldn't put this series down when the Hunter's War was ready to by I re-read the series from the beginning.. I didn't want the story to stop. I loved these stories. Harry Spoor is one of my favorite authors. I will continue to look for his stories.
Thanks for allowing me to voice my opinion Debbie Perkins
I honestly got to say this can not be the end for Certified Level Three Hunter Kile Veller!!!!!! This series is soooo A-FREAKING-MAZING!!! I love all four of Spoor's books and cannot wait for Hunters Ending!!! Things are just getting to good with Roland and Tullner!!! love this series and cannot wait for Hunters Ending!!!! Please, please release soon!!!!!!!!
Story and characters moving along nicely. Hard to put down. Editing better, but still flawed. Maybe I'm getting better at looking past the spelling and misplaced commas and incorrect text that are still in the way of the story, if slightly this time.
And there's a company credited with the editing at the end.
