Collects personal narratives of sixteen women who served as members of the Women's Army Corps and the Red Cross in the Vietnam War, highlighting their experiences on the front lines.
The stories of women who served in Vietnam Nam, all were volunteers. Hard to imagine that the US government has no idea how many were there. You read that correctly, no official statistics are available because gender was not recorded on records. These stories are not neat, little sanitized versions. They are written as they were spoken: with passion, pride and great suffering. They deserve to be acknowledged for their sacrifice.
This book was listed in Kristen Hannah’s, The Women, as part of her research in writing the novel. Authored by a journalist seeking to inform the world of female service in Vietnam through many different roles aside from combat. Dialogue is one-sided as if the speaker is in front of you telling her story.
Honest first hand transcripts from Vietnam heroes. Sometimes rambling, but comes cross as if you’re listening to someone tell their story. Appreciated the honesty and first person viewpoint. Thank you.
Stories of many women who served in Vietnam: as nurses, in Red Cross, in the Army. It’s as though they’re each speaking to us, telling their own story, some more articulate than others. Many speak of their time in Vietnam as unforgettable … the best and the worst time of their life.
Read in research for a novel under development. Overlaps some with Piece of My Heart, but still a good read for anyone still interested in the devotion of women who gave an extra measure to the fighting men.
