More of a pamphlet or a 2012 New York Times article. Always wanted to read this so figured the week I quit my DevOps trading job would be perfect timing. There isn't enough depth here but it contains some useful stuff and no ridiculous statements. Well, it does recommend you read the Phoenix Project, one of my most detested technology books, but aside from that, it's a competent free download!
One notable thing was I always wondered why I had to pass the Series 57 as a technologist, this book gave me the answer: there was a recommendation made by FINRA in 2015 that all front office technologists register as traders.
I needed this for a work task and it was just fine. It's not as comprehensive as I had hoped but good enough to give a bird's eye view or high level overview of finance related DevOps.
Can't really argue with this as a free book. Offers a very good, broad and concise overview of the topic with a good focus on Financial Services firms and excellent references to explore more.
I would have happily paid for a bigger book with more content of this quality. For example, I'm interested in understanding how off-the-shelf vendor software that is customised and enhanced by the client is handled in terms of Continuous Integration. Need to do some digging because this wasn't covered in the scope of the book.
