The next exciting instalment in the bestselling, award-winning Justice series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author M A Comley
When the local pathologist asks DI Lorne Warner and DS Katy Foster to attend the scene of an accidental explosion, it's not long before the capable detectives find that the victim was murdered aboard his boat before the "accident" occurred.
Delving into the victim's past leads Lorne across the county border into Norfolk, where she calls upon her good friend DI Sally Parker to assist in the investigation.
What the joint team reveals about the victim's extended family blows them away. Can Lorne and Sally find the crucial evidence in time to prevent the notorious family from carrying out their own twisted justice to sustain their wealth?

I have such a love / hate relationship with this series, the last few books I haven't enjoyed but this one I did! It just felt more together, more researched and the characters more 3D.
All the books in the series can be read as standalone so while some of the others I wouldn't recommend, this one I would for an interesting easy read.
At the time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.
DI Lorne Warner is one of my favourite fictional characters, so I'm always waiting in anticipation when a new Justice book is about to be published. Once again, in Mel Comley's 13th Justice instalment, the intrepid Lorne is up against some very loathsome individuals...actually a whole bunch of them!
The investigation into a murder at sea takes Lorne to Norfolk Constabulary where she meets her old friend DI Sally Parker, the fab main character of the author's other series (currently consisting of 'Wrong Place' and 'No Hiding Place'). It was fun and a great idea to have these two fabulous characters joining forces in the same story. Each of these witty inspectors is a force of nature, so one can only imagine what they're capable of when they're working together as a team.
When another murder takes place and a link to the boat incident is found, the two detectives, together with Katy at London's MET find themselves on a race against time to cut short the evil deeds of some very sick minds.
Although from the outset we know who commits the crime, this doesn't diminish the reader's enjoyment. On the other hand, it's amusing and interesting to read how these two strong-headed women, step by step, work out and solve the murder mystery.
Twists, turns and dead ends make this book a very fast read that kept me on the edge of my seat at all times. I found myself frantically swiping the pages on my kindle as I wanted to know how things will turn up. At one point I felt like throttling one evil, cold-hearted character and I ended up wincing and biting my lips when I arrived at a very nasty scene - I almost wish I can 'unread' that part!!
Once again Mel Comley has awarded her readers with action, intrigue, and suspense, all together in another great instalment that's guaranteed to keep every thriller lover entertained from start to finish.
What a gift! The author has given her readership not only a knockout book, but one that features her two best characters ... DI Lorne Warner and DI Sally Parker.
Warner and DS Katy Foster are called to investigate a boat explosion that took a man's life. The local medical examiner finds that the man was killed before the accident happened. Only it wasn't an accident....
Crossing country borders to continue investigating, DI Sally Parker joins in the hunt. What the discover is a dysfunctional family at the root of all evil.
As are all the Justice books to this point, they are well written with lots of action and excitement. Seeing Warner and Parker is like having a family reunion. Secondary characters lend an air of credibility. The original crime is seen at the beginning of the book and the fun is riding along with the Inspectors to solve the crime.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of TWISTED JUSTICE. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Well...what can I say that hasn't already been said about this book!! I love the justice series and was incredibly lucky to have won a signed copy of this during the authors online launch of Twisted Justice. Lorne is back! After my concerns at the end of Calculated Justice that things seemed to be wrapping up for Lorne, I am pleased to report that all is back to normal here for our favourite detective except she is given the opportunity to work with her old friend (and our new friend!) DI Sally Parker. The suspicious death of a man on board a boat leads them to Norfolk. Whilst informing the man's widow of his murder we get to meet Claire Knight, patriarch of the family and a very nasty piece of work!! This book will not disappoint fans of the series. In fact it will probably encourage readers to also get involved in the DI Sally Parker books too. I love books with strong, intelligent women where you know that good will triumph over evil and Mel Comley always delivers. Looking forward to seeing where Lorne goes from here.
In this, the 13th of the Justice series, both Lorne Warner and her friend Sally Parker (from the author's new series) work together to solve a case. Bringing these characters together was such a good idea and both their working and personal relationships are written really well.
This case involves uncovering family secrets, lies and murder. The family being investigated are pure evil. They will stop at nothing in order to get what they think should be theirs.
As with all of this authors books, this one is packed with action, thrills, great characters and some particularly evil baddies! The investigation moves along at a good pace and always holds your interest. I always like how Lorne's personality comes across and how it is expressed through both her working and family relationships. The way that the author seems to use Lorne's sarcasm and sense of humour to lighten the mood also works well too.
Another fantastic installment to the Justice series.
I received this as an arc from Mel herself in exchange for an honest review. A burned body on a boat..... A man found dead outside the bank.... Are they connected? Lorne Warner and her team are on the case. OMG. Wow. Absolutely fantastic read. CNPID. Mel has done it again. I loved the story and the characters. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. 5 * although I would have given more if I could. This is in my top 10 reads for 2015.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the thirteenth book in the Justice series and certainly did not disappoint! I read this book in a matter of hours, devouring each page as we see Lorne team up with an old friend, but relatively new character -DI Sally Parker. I had been dying for this pair to come together and needless to say…it bloody worked well!
You may have noticed, I recently took on Claire Knight as a Guest Reviewer here on CrimeBookJunkie. You can imagine my surprise to see her turn up as the evil, calculating and very twisted antagonist in this book! Her character rocked!! And to be compared to the Unicorn, a previous nemesis, well you know she is pure evil! I will have to be sure I remain on Claire’s good side in the future! LOL!
There was also a big squeal of joy from me when I came across my name in the book! This is the third time I have “appeared” from the dead….seems the author just cannot get rid of me (ha ha ha)! (insert ghostly laugh here) I love that M.A. Comley inserts her fans into her writing. Such a huge honour for us. A big thanks to the author for being…well…great!!
Once again, the author takes us through a macabre tale of destruction which Lorne and the team have to figure out. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and suspect also that the little girl we have all nurtured as our own -Charlie – is now 21 years old and dating!! I suspect there will be a lot more about this in the next Justice book(s)!
Would I recommend this book to my fellow readers….Ab-so-friggin-lutely! I am a HUGE. fan of the Justice series and now the DI Sally Parker series too! Having the two combined was brilliant and I hope to see the overlap again!
Twisted Justice is the thirteenth novel in the justice series.
Fans of this authors books are in for a real treat, as not only is Lorne back but she also partners up with DI Sally Parker who is in a new series of her own by the same author.
The dynamic duo get together to investigate the mysterious death of a man. Upon telling the victim's wife, Lorne and Sally get a very bad feeling after meeting the mother in law, Claire Knight.
Claire Knights character is just brilliant. Right from the start she put the fear of god into me. She actually reminded me of some sort of mafia boss being the head of the family and having everyone do as she says.
I really don't know how the author keeps coming up with such great story lines that consistently has me gripped from beginning to end, but she does.
Twisted Justice has a cracker of a storyline that is extremely fast paced in parts. I loved seeing two of my favourite fictional detectives working alongside each other in the fight against crime.
Many thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Twisted Justice is Lorne Warner's 13th outing and this time she's heading across district lines to Norfolk to team up with her old Hendon training pal Sally Parker. Together they're investigating the death of a man on his rather expensive boat. They meet some rather unsavoury characters on their way to cracking the case.
I love the Sally Parker books and I love the Justice books so when I heard Mel Comley was writing a joint investigation I was excited....but then my excitement went sky high, Mel wrote me into the book!! High pitched girl squeal ensued that day!!
Needless to say the combination of these two tenacious characters is brilliant. I do hope we will see more of this dynamic duo in the future.
The dynamics in the Knight family reminded me a bit of the traditional Italian mob style gangsters with a Godmother rather than a Godfather.
Thank you so much to Mel Comley for my advanced copy of this fantastic book! And thank you for making me an unforgettable character!!
Firstly massive thanks to Mel Comley for an ARC of this book, the 13th in the Justice series.
Wow ! What a page turner. I absolutely loved it. Ms Comley makes the characters in all her books really come to life. When reading these books you can actually imagine each of the characters like they are there with you. In Twisted Justice Mel has introduced DI Sally Parker into the book to work alongside Lorne. As we all know Di Parker is the main character in No hiding Place and Wrong Place. This worked brilliantly and I look forward to hopefully seeing more of these two brilliant characters in more books together.
Well what can I say about the character of Claire Knight. What an evil, vile specimen of a human being. She made me feel very very afraid.
Once again well done Mel Comley for writing another superb book.
I was very excited to discover two of Mel Comley's strong female characters together in one book. I read all the DI Lorne Warner books and reluctantly branched into the DI Sally Parker books, only to fall into her web too, so to find them both in one story was a real treat...and they were hunting an especially maniacal female and her daughters. Let the best women win! What a fun and twisted book. I especially love the contrast of the evil they fight with their warm and loving home lives albeit not without complications and problems of their own. Once again a winning novel that I was sad to slide my last swipe to. Waiting for the next adventure.
I have read the previous Justice series and number thirteen certainly didn't dissapoint. Although I have no personal experience of police procedures I always find the books are easy to follow and believable. I particularly enjoyed this book as it brought two of my favourite detectives back together. I also like the personal details in the book relating to family life as I think it helps to bond with the characters. Thank you to Mel Comley for the ARC
I am a huge fan of the justice series and eagerly awaited book 13. To then have Lorne partnering up with Sally Parker (another brilliant DI series), made me very excited.
As always, Mel Comley did not disappoint. Twisted Justice is interesting, fast-paced and draws you into the story. I loved the idea of a family mob being ruled by the matriarch; I thought it was a brilliant way to tell the story. Comley writes in such a way that the villain, Claire Knight, strikes fear into her children, the police and the reader. There's secrets, lies, blackmailing and murder - what's not to enjoy from Twisted Justice.
This has been my favourite series of 2015, and I'm glad to have ended the year with a bang.
Mel Comley Book 13. Twisted Justice. Yet again the author has done it, this book is a cracker, featuring two of my favourite characters in Lorne Warner and Sally Parker. It's great how this author keeps this series fresh, and combines home life and work. Love this series and it's just got better as time goes by. Very highly recommended read. 5* 28 December 2015.
Wow wow wow . Just when you thought Mel couldn't beat her last book for thrills you thought wrong .this book was an unputdownable read . The main suspect was a horrible cruel vindictive woman . Glad we have Lorne and Sally on the case . I recieved an ARC copy of this book from the lovely Mel Comley . I give this book 5 stars . Wish I could give it more
Two detectives from Mel Comley's previous books come together to investigate a murder on a yacht off the coast of Kent They uncover a family of evil villains headed by a cold calculating and manipulative mother who has so far escaped justice. A pacy insight into police procedures with plenty of action. I received an ARC copy of this book from the Author and I'm so glad I did. 5☆ from me.
Fantastic catching up with Lorne, but combining with Sally from Mel's other series...loved it. Fast paced, gritty, and an easy read. One of my favourite author's and series.
Claire Knight makes a cougar look like a kitten. She has ruled her four daughters Ives for years trying to make them into mini me's. Using her feminine while to conceal her evil intentions of getting on their wallets as soon as they get on her pants. Money is her one true love, she despises her daughters weaknesses as she sees them. Her daughter, Reagan is getting fed up with her mother controlling her life and decided to get rid of her brother on law, Ryan who has proved to be useful and obedient to Claire. She and her sister, Helen join him on his new boat, luring him with promises of a bit of fun on the side. Her type of fun involved stabbing him and blowing up the boat with him on it. The thing she didn't anticipate was getting caught on camera. Lorne is given the case after the post mortem reveals the stabbing. Reagan then bribes her junkie sister, Olga into killing a bank manager, who has papers destined for Claire's next blackmail attempt. Olga agrees to giving him a blow job, before he hands over the paperwork. On getting the goods she offers him a repeat of her earlier performance, which he jumps at, sadly for him her idea of an encore includes killing him, cutting of his penis and placing it in his mouth for bank staff to find on their arrival at work. It all starts to fall apart when Lorne and Sally go to notify Lucy, the remaining sister, of her husband Ryan's demise. Lucy's mother is present and obnoxious, which tweaks Lorne's antenna. Then DNA comes back from saliva on the mutilated penis to Olga , who has her DNA on file as a known drug addict. Like a house of cards Claire Knight's empire begins to fall. Olga ignores the advice of her !other's solicitor and start to recall the families illegal activities. Joe, the son who ran away at sixteen to get away from his mother, has been approached by Lorne and Sally at Ryan's funeral and arrived at the police station to accept their offer of witness protection, in exchange for telling all he knows about his mother's activities. Well written.
This is my review of Twisted Justice by M A Comley. It’s the thirteenth book in the DI Lorne Warner Series. In this book we are treated to both DI Lorne Warner and DI Sally Parker so it’s a collaboration between London and Norfolk.
DI Lorne Warner is surprised to receive a call from local pathologist Patti and even more intrigued when told, ‘Get your arse in gear and get down to the Marina at Leigh-on-sea’. Then the line goes dead.
The DI asks DS Katy Foster to join her and they head out. When they arrive, Patti advises there was a boat explosion that afternoon with one dead body. She has examined the body in situ. She believes it’s murder!
Lorne and Katy get on with questioning the people around the marina, trying to find out if anyone had seen anything or knew the name of the boat etc. Maybe someone possibly knew who the man was. Two women had been seen getting on the boat. They tried to find out if the boat may have had an dinghy on board, to see if a possible murderer got away that way. They thought about checking the chassis number. Until some information came in that would lead them in a direction, they had their work cut out for them.
The next day, DI Warner gets the information on the victim so she can inform his family. It appears he has an address in London and in Norfolk. For that she calls on her friend DI Sally Parker and arranges to visit so she can break the news personally to the widow. Also, any other family members that might be there.
DI Sally Parker and DI Lorne Warner launched a joint venture, they got their respective teams in the background working the victim’s background to route out details as well. What the teams managed to find out was quite astonishing and they were surprised they hadn’t come across the police radar before.
Sally and Lorne look at all the evidence to see what the family might be up to and how they can put a plan into action. Could they manage to catch the family in the middle of a criminal act?
This was a fantastic read, fast paced from the start. Loved the collaboration of DI Lorne Warner and DI Sally Parker, it worked really well. Hope we get another story with the same two detectives. The story is very descriptive and well written, this author never disappoints. 5 out of 5 stars
I'm sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with other goodreads readers. The story read like a bad TV melodrama and the detectives were self-satisfied and smug. The plot was simplistic and the dialogue made me cringe at times. I read something else by this author which wasn't too bad which is why I chose it in the first place. I'll pass on this series in future.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read all of the Justice series and have enjoyed each one, they are fast paced, well written with a great story line. I hope there will be many more.
I've read the first nine books of this series and most of the short stories and novellas. I don't have books 10 thur 12, however I have read book 13 "Twisted Justice" and continue reading book 14 "Prime Justice and book 14 "Caculated Justice.
This is an awful book! Unbelievable characters, a plot that makes no sense at all, and inane conversations that go on forever and are one cliche after another! I struggled to get to the end of this book, but I won't be tempted to read anything else from this author.
It was fantastic to have Lorne team up with her friend Sally Parker on a case. I loved the camaraderie between the two. Another great book in a brilliant series.
