Independence Falls, Colorado. 1954. It was the start of a perfect summer--until the fog rolled in and changed everything. Now these heroes will explore their newfound abilities ... and each other.

June Powell's mother has one that June marry into one of Independence Falls’ finest families so she can take the place in society her mother could never achieve. June has different dreams. Dreams she’s never shared for fear of upsetting her family. She longs to escape her small town to explore the great wide world she only knows from books. When she discovers she can walk through walls, her first instinct is to hide her power. What would people say if they knew? But then odd thoughts start appearing in her head ... thoughts not her own ... thoughts that could ruin more than her reputation. For June to survive, she’ll need to stop caring what others think of her once and for all.

Ivan Sokolov has always been an outsider. His family emigrated from Russia in hopes of a better life, only to find themselves shunned. As the Cold War gains steam, Ivan knows most people think of him as a Communist, or worse. It wouldn't bother him if it weren't for June Powell. As much as he hates admitting a woman can affect him so much, he longs for her to see him instead of his heritage. As his yearning grows, so does his power. But June needs more than a lover ... she needs protection.

June and Ivan aren't the only ones in Independence Falls who have mysterious new abilities. If they’re not careful, the whole town will know the truth. And not everyone intends to use their powers for good.

I'm falling more and more in love with this series as it goes on. And can I just say how gorgeous all these book covers are?

While its prequel, Sparked, was rather slow-paced and mainly about the love story between Clayton and Cora, Exposed has a lot more action in it. We get a real antagonist in this one, some twists, and a bunch of new, more or less important sidekicks, as the mystery surrounding the characters' superpowers becomes a more prominent aspect of the story.
Still, we get our fair share of romance between our two main characters, June and Ivan. Ivan was particularly intriguing to me. A broody, sullen but misunderstood outcast who doesn't realize how lonely he is until June stumbles into his life - quite literally, in fact. There's a lot of push-and-pull going on, a few misunderstandings, creating a little unnecessary drama, but I didn't really mind. It was believable, considering Ivan's past experiences and June's upbringing.
I loved Ivan's power. There was something incredibly romantic about him being able to grow flowers and control greenery. And it was so at odds with his otherwise angry and hostile demeanor.

Really enjoyed this one. Book 3 is already waiting on my Kindle.

Welcome back to the year 1954. The year The Fog rolled in. The year the Communist hate frenzy meant anyone could be ostracized. In Independence Falls, a small town filled with small minds, gossip and snobbery, Ivan and his family took the brunt of this hatred. Ivan’s response was to scowl right back, knowing he had a secret, he was another “victim” of The Fog, and he had a superpower.

June was the girl who tried to make everyone happy, no matter what. Her mother expected her to marry up, her father needed her paycheck to meet the never-ending bills her mother created. All June wanted to do was get as far away from this town as soon as possible. Always the good girl, June was drowning in being what others expected of her. She also had a secret; she had gained a superpower in the aftermath of The Fog.

It was dark and stormy when they bumped into each other and then it happened. There was “something” between them, in spite of their less than cordial meeting. The heart wants what it wants and it will not be denied, two people from different worlds find a tentative love. Simple love story, right? Nope, not even close.

Controlling powers is difficult, so all affected by The Fog have gotten together to help one another, all but the one quite possibly the strongest power among them and he is determined to make everyone pay for slighting him, starting with June. He will do anything to get the other superheroes do his evil bidding and with his power they may be helpless against him. Can he be stopped before both the town and its people are destroyed? Will he pit June against Ivan or will the threads of love become steel girders against a man so twisted and vile?

Exposed by Lily Cahill is a tale of love, torment and secrets, as one group of superheroes strive to do good with their powers, only to be toyed with by true evil. Feel the small town feel, experience life in the fifties, a time more innocent than today, where being outspoken wasn’t ladylike and being different was dangerous. Lily Cahill has brought fantasy and romance to life with a touch of wonder, some attitude and completely entertaining writing! Grab your hats, gloves and purse, ladies, gentlemen; get your hats, too. We are about to stroll through Independence Falls, where Independence Day is more than just fireworks, and secrets are exposed.

I received this copy from Lily Cahill in exchange for my honest review.

Exposed is just as amazing as it previous book, Sparked.

Readers will love the characters through all of their ups and downs, their drama and peaceful moments, and throughout their struggle with their new powers which none of them asked for.

If you are looking for a romance series with some supernatural, you will not be disappointed with this series.

My review for this one in Lily Cahill's "Independence Falls" superhero series is pretty much the same for the first one. I really enjoyed it and even though it wasn't perfect I liked it and was invested enough in the story to want to read more.

Most would dislike the heroine, June, for being a whiny pushover. Honestly, I understand this. But what made her character work for me was that, yes, SHE'S A PUSHOVER and yet she learns to get passed this need to please everyone and think for herself. She grew as a character and even though I disliked that character, I still understood her growth and where she was coming from. Most author's don't do that.

The hero, Ivan, although a bit of a cliched Russian character at times had his flaws and his strengths. I understood why he was cynical and guarded all the time, the other characters in the story more than making me see why he'd end up like this. I also liked how even if he DID open up a bit and try to be nicer as the story progressed he didn't up and change himself completely just to please people or the heroine. He geniunely wanted to reach out to people and be nice. As long as they DESERVED it.

I didn't get why he was into June at first but I thankfully grew into their romance so I'll let it slide. This time.

My only cons about this is Butch.

Which is why i knocked off one star from the four I originally wanted to give this. I didn't understand that ending (which cut off quite abruptly i might add) but overall I still really enjoyed the story.

This story takes during the 1950’s when many Americans were highly suspicious of Russians living in the U.S. The disdain to which Ivan’s family has endured has scared him and turned him into a hard and bitter man. At first, his gruff nature was very off-putting. Despite this, some continue to offer him kindness that he fails to see. It isn’t until June starts chipping away at his attitude does he find a way to smile.

Ivan is attracted to June. “Why was she so embedded inside of him? This woman with whom he’d shared a handful of heated words. Maybe because she hadn’t balked. She hadn’t backed away from his hard glare. There was determination in her face, courage in her eyes.”

June is not without her own personal challenges. She must break away from her ever pleasing attitude and not constantly succumb to other’s expectations.

Like many other romances, misunderstandings tear the lovers apart. But what was unique here was the deeply rooted understanding between them that wills them together.

The “superhero” aspect in this book becomes a more prominent piece of the story. Sorry but I’m not going to spoil the story line and give away too much.

I do love the romantic use of Ivan’s ability to make flowers grow. He wants to bring flowers to June, but not just any ordinary flower. He puts a lot of thought into what would be a perfect flower choice. “June’s flower wasn’t anything he’d find in a greenhouse, or a florist’s shop, or even in a meadow. June was singular, and she could only be contained in the bloom of his power.”

A man willing to put that much thought into a gift for a woman is the epitome of romance!
