Gino Baptise comes from a long family line of men who just can't do right by the women in their lives. He never expects his player ways to land him in the one place he never wanted to be: PRISON. As he awaits his trial, he finds himself drawn to the stories of his fellow inmates, Tiny Toni, Money Mike, and Black Bill. He discovers that he is not the only one who has let love and lust draw him down a dark path. As he gains insight into himself, he finds himself at a crossroad where he must make a decision that could ultimately decide his fate and change his life.
In this 3rd book by Kennedee Devoe, we meet Gino Baptise, whose prison term brings about some strong lessons on infidelity, love and life. The author does a remarkable job of developing the character of Gino and the other men he meets in prison. Unlike the author's previous books, we get a strong insight into a male's perspective on relationships and why, sometimes, they do the things they do.
A thought provoking part of the story to me was when Kennedee was introduced into the book and the lessons she spoke of. If you have read her other books, you saw how she was a "loose cannon" but in this newest novel, you see how her experiences has shaped her into the woman she is today.
I would like to applaud the author on her growth in writing and as a person. It has been an interesting journey that she has taken readers on and I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.
I’ve read every book that Ms. Devoe has published, from her first novel to this current one. It’s always a pleasure to see how Ms. Devoe’s style evolves with each book. This book has only added to her legacy of being a great author. Ms. Devoe has again mastered the art of storytelling, creating a story that is both entertaining and educational without it being riddled with profanity and sex. The story is written in a true to life style, showing how infidelity can lead to nothing but pain and cause you to make decisions that can be life changing. What I liked most about the story is that it shows you that the choice is yours. You choose if you want to be unfaithful. You choose if you want to stay with someone who is unfaithful. The choice is yours to make the right decision, so choose wisely and take responsibility for your actions. This book deserves five stars. I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for a good emotional read.
Author Kennedee Devoe has an uncanny ability to capture human nature by creating stories that a reader can truly identify with. From the first page to the very last, her characters entertain you, piss you off, make you laugh, and make you cry. One pleasant surprise was when the author actually injected herself into the book. This was a great story coming from a male view on relationships. It showed how dishonesty, can put your life on the fast track to going nowhere. The book tells the tale of four men that found themselves in situations that could've been prevented, just by making the choice to do right. I loved that it told the story from a male perspective!
One of her remarkable qualities is that she can spin a masterful tale without profanity, and over the top sex scenes. Her story is engaging, and you find yourself wondering what you would do if you were in the characters' situations. I take my hat off to the author, and look forward to reading her next endeavor.
Just Can't Do Right was a great read. This story is about Gino and how is player ways affect his life as well as those around him. K. Devoe did a great job of showing how some behaviors may be learned based on what we afe shown or exposed to but at the end of the day its our decisions that affect our lives and the lives of those we love. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. KD's first two books were about her personal life experiences and were easily relatable being where as this book is written from a man's perspective and although i cant relate from the male perspective it did make me think differently and try to see things as they would. This book has everything plus that Kennedee Devoe wit and humor that keeps you coming back for more! I would definitely recommend this book!
This was my first read by Kennedee Devoe. I thought this was a well written story with realistic characters & dialogue. Title was on point with the content & nice cover. Smooth flowing storyline allowed me to complete this story rather quickly once I started reading. I liked the way Gino's story was explained on how he was in his present predicament for the content discussed was easy to follow. I also found interesting the different opinions on relationships & situations of the supporting characters. I enjoyed reading Just Can't Do Right so much I plan on reading all of Ms. Devoe's books very soon.
This was a quick read. I enjoyed the characters. I laughed out loud often. The men in this book were a trip! The print was a nice size and easy on the eyes. I had aprehension initially because of past issues with indie authors but the book was well edited with only a couple of typos. All I have to say is page 203 blew my wig BACK!!!! I did NOT see that coming! I look forward to reading the other books penned by Ms. Devoe and to see her grow and develop as an artist.
This book will make a person reflect on their life and realize a few things…not every situation deserves a reaction and don't be so stuck on live that you will kill for it. Listening to the stories that unfolded on these pages made me remember something a wise man once said, "All great men were brought down by a woman!"
I definitely recommend this book to all avid readers looking for a good book, and I'm looking forward to any future books by this author.
Definitely a page turner with a valuable message. So many of us can end up in the same place, but for such different reasons and circumstances. Kennedee walks you through each characters personal story with such jaw dropping situations and unforgettable outcomes. Excellent page turner!
