Duncan Macpherson has but one thing in mind. Complete an act of valor in the two days of mortality allotted him by the Muir Witch, in order to win the chance to confront Bonny Prince Charles and put his sizeable Macpherson strength behind a long awaited reckoning. But nothing in his 269 years on Culloden Moor have prepared him for the high desert of the Arizona Strip, or the secrets that await him there. Lainey Saunders is a 3rdth generation rancher determined to save her family legacy for the next generation, but she is unaware of the forces working against her. Lainey must face her past choices in order to save her future, but at what cost? If these two brave hearts fail, they’ll lose more than just their legacies.
Jo Jones lives in the red-rock area of southern Utah. Her roots go deep into the red soil of cattle country, tended by four generations of ranchers.
She also keeps a tight hold on the ancestral string of her Scottish heritage and keeps a piece of her heart in the Highlands.
With a lifetime love for reading, and writing, she has a soft spot for richly detailed historical novels with characters who draw their strength and purpose from the land and their environment. And of course, each other.
This authors understood the true essence of what the 79 Highlanders ghosts of Culloden moor. A great addition to the established authors storyline. With the future of so many, an the tragic events at that time having the help of others who are able to give these brave men warriors in there day as in our own the peace and justice for all that they endure I have a high praise for her as well. Great read looking forward to your next works on this series.
Duncan- and his Molly. I adored this story. It was riveting as one sees how much love can turn a stone cold heart into a warm beating one.Duncan's story is so beautiful and will stay with me a long time.
This story is about a highlander who lost his younger sister to drowning when he was 12 years old. For all the horrors of battle, this was what disturbed his dreams most. I enjoyed it.
Duncan is the 8th book in the series. Each book originates from the ghosts of 79 people who died at Culloden. However, each story is unique, and focuses on the specific ghost. Each ghost must complete a noble deed. Duncan meets Lainey and her daughter Molly. Molly reminds him of his little sister. He works hard to help Lainey, and protect Molly, and ends up falling for her. Duncan saves Molly from an almost drowning, reliving the terror of his sister’s death. This shows you the regrets in life and carry beyond the grave. The story is well written and interesting. The characters are well developed. Narration is excellent, I love the Scottish brogue. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Duncan was such a super hero in this story! I loved how he fell in love with Lainey but with her daughter as well. The story was exceptionally close to my heart because like the child in the story I grew up with a handicap. There's a line in this book that speaks a truth that is so resounding. "People, especially other children, reacted in a myriad of ways when they saw Molly’s disability. Their curiosity, occasional pity, and too-often ridicule, ripped away irreparable chunks of Molly’s self-esteem. Some even pretended not to see her. Few ever gave her as much as a kind word."
Duncan (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #8), my first read from author Jo Jones and the eighth in the highly enjoyable Ghosts of Culloden Moor series. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes the books she reads influence me. A well-written short read. I'll read more from this author & in this series, but what really got me going was narrator Andrew McDermott, I love his Irish brogue. Co-narrator Jenn McGuirk added to the enjoyment of the book. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This is the eighth novella in The Ghosts of Culloden Moor Series, a Scottish Paranormal Romance. I love this series! Duncan and Lainey's story is well written, emotional, and engaging. I liked Lainey's daughter, Molly. Duncan is handsome, and protective. Lainey is beautiful, smart, caring, and determined. This is a beautiful story. Andrew McDermott and Jenn McGuirk did an excellent job bringing these characters and this story to life.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the eighth book in the series. You will want to read the first short story, The Gathering, before you start the rest of the series. After that, each one can be read as a standalone .
I love Duncan! He is ready for his turn from the Muir witch, Soni, to prove his heroic act and receive his boon to face Bonnie Prince Charlie for his poor judgement that led to the Deaths of so many at Culloden Moor. Duncan learns there may be more to gain than revenge.
I'm not quite sure about this series. I have to admit it's becoming repetitious at this point. While each story is somewhat different the premise and the final outcomes of each is the same with the exception of the one about Rabby. The problem may also be that I have read them 1 after the other. Maybe I need to read them in between other books LOL. Each on it's own is enjoyable just don't read them all at once like I have been doing.
I enjoyed the narration of Andrew McDermott and Jenn McGuirk
Duncan is ready for his turn from the Muir witch, Soncerae having to do a heroic act, for his poor judgement that led to the Deaths of so many at Culloden Moor. When Duncan meets Lainey's daughter Molly, she reminds him of his little sister. He saves Molly from drowning . Reminding him of his sister. Duncan finds he is falling for Lainey. This story shows how regrets in one life, can carry into the next.
This is another wonderful love story from the Ghosts of Culloden Moor series. All of the authors are able to create magical, entrancing stories. This collection is nearly as good as "that other time travel to Scotland" series - they're getting me thru the wait till that story returns to TV.
Wow! Incredible! I think this was my favorite so far! The romance wasn’t as strong, but the plot was. It was freaking intense at the end. There was a bit of a thriller mystery going on, trying to figure out who was messing with the ranch. And little Molly sounds adorable. The instant family vibe was beautiful. I really loved this.
This story has so much suspense, I snapped at my poor husband when he interrupted my reading. The characters are well developed and steal your heart. There is deep sadness, great joy, and a raging flood. A beautiful rancher and a braw Highlander. A must read.
This is part of the ghost of the "Culloden Moor" series and is probably best if you read them in order. Definitely read the "Gathering" first because it sets everything up. This is a good story, that develops nicely. It is interesting and intriguing with good narration. This one is about Duncan and Lainey. This one just might be my favorite, thus far. I really enjoyed how this one develops.
Fast paced short story as Duncan of the Ghosts from a Scottish battlefield gets to have second chance at making a life that truly means more than he ever thought possible.
Probably the second best in the series! Thrilling, full of intrigue and smiles. Duncan has found the answer to all his fears and problems, he just doesn't know it yet! Wonderful reading.
I just finished another of your stories, and love each one of them and the other books as well and the endings are so filled with so much love that it years my heart. You girls do a wonderful job in this series. Thank you again and again. Ada G.
These are short and sweet but a joy to read; even if I’m going through my box of tissues. If you’re that way incline, keep tissues with you lol. I’m loving the characters and the stories.
I completely enjoyed this book! Duncan is one of my favorites! All of the books are very good but there have been some that stand a little above the rest, this is one of them.
The past can haunt you, but the future can give you peace.
When Duncan was brought to the future to accomplish an act of heroism, he never expected to meet to love of his life. What happens when it’s time for Soni, the witch, to come for him?
After going to Culloden Moor in May 2022 and visiting the site of so much death, the lives of the men lost there are close in my mind. Duncan has a big heart capable of sacrifice and love. But does he have time to save the lives of people he just met?
I loved everything about this beautifully written story! Wee Molly and her instant trust and love for Duncan was so sweet. The way you wrote the rescue of Molly form the gully wash was so realistic & well done I was exhausted by the time they reached the hospital! Bravo
I really loved reading this book! The story was great! Duncan learns about love and forgiveness. Lainey and Molly help him become the man he wasn't allowed to become in 1746.
Love it wish I had a man like these highlanders my ancestors are from the Highlands but very few are still there. Love your works keep up the good work
