In a steam and mechanical powered Victorian England, Feisty Cara Devon is on the trail of powerful ancient artifacts in this bestselling historical fantasy series.
This set contains the first three novels. 1: Nefertiti's Heart A killer stalks the nobility seeking a legendary diamond said to have once belonged to Queen Nefertiti and rumoured to hold the key to immortality. 2: Hatshepsut's Collar An ancient Egyptian necklace is driving Queen Victoria mad with megalomania, and that's not Cara's most pressing problem. 3: Nero's Fiddle
People start dying from spontaneous human combustion when someone uses a relic from Rome to cover up an old secret.
Highly recommended. The main characters have the same intensity as Brendon Frazier and Rachel Weiss do in the Mummy films . Fighting to regain control of themselves and to finally thwart a paralysing fear of her past and the small minded society of the time these books have it all . You can't help but love the roques and thugs who endear themselves to everyone in the ever changing dynamics of the strange expanding family
Brilliant. The main characters have the same intensity as Brendan Frazier and Rachel Weiss in the wonderful "Mummy" films. Searching for relics and artifacts that they never knew existed until they are bound by one and the fantastical and scary world they are drawn into as a consequence is very clever and I couldn't put it down. I read the whole boxset no I can't wait to read more.
not kindle unlimited, don't think any of them are, but talking about looking at various Artifact Hunter books; bought at reduced price a while back, but turns out the 'collection' while says 1-4 is actually 1, 2, 3, and 4, because there is 2.5 and 3.f NOT there. See the very bottom for the list of all the books, in total, for these; will save review until finished because will take a while, and chromebook will undoubtedly crash browser {again} once or more, as it already has before could do just that. The ones missing from from 'collection', not 'happy' because is book in between the 1-4 so out of order, and basically means either they were not important enough to add in to 'collection' or else they weren't worth being put in as one of the stories, in my way of thinking, plus the others are $4 bucks a whack so js. Have almost finished book 1; would have and could have been a 4 or even a 5, if sexual situations, past abuse mental and physical and sexual plus present situations hadn't been shoved in to what would otherwise have been quite interesting steampunk type story, so as it is dropped to 3 then 2, and if the other ones the same will drop it further.
Book 2 not as much but still way too much of that crap but a lot of telling the story over in parts and it drags, and how many times is she going to stick a knife up her sleeve or where ever, she's done it at least twice so far just in the space of a few pages. And since when is walking pants not suitable for uh walking around looking? This is also way too much chick crap with back and forth of the heart device has them bound so if one die then the other does, oh way no maybe she could get far enough away, no they are bound so if he is executed she will die too, no maybe not, CHRIST'S SAKE ALREADY you either do or do not know as the 'writer' so figure it out ALREADY. Doesn't help having places with missing words or words not used in normal usage/meaining, a little confusing and a lot aggravating having to 'translate/fix' things while reading!Imperative to talk to Chinese Ambassador's wife, and to keep her from a twitchy mount, so they leave her behind and don't even look for her until the fox hunt is almost over? What is up with British spelling and PRESUMABLY {a good bit WRONG, re syntax or time period}and all the UN-necessary swearing, as they didn't use those words hardly ever if at all in that period, what bollocks too tame or what, no idea how to convey extreme emotion without cussing worse than some low bred white trash sailor?
The 'books' don't say what happens'. Really...since in other parts of THIS story it said that anyone who took it off another DIED, and the electrical whatever fried the persons standing too close TOO. Then there is the matter of you are linked, and maybe maybe not {depending on what sentence of this volume} if they die you die, so...while he is swallowing sea water, you ask for a bucket so you can give him your air and spit out his sea water...after you get the bucket....There are many other instances, but the last so far caught was 'The wound in his leg healed as he walked to the stage...uh hello, learn English, British or American, and about commas and correct placement...try something such as 'since his leg wound was healed enough, he walked to the stage'...otherwise it's a HUH? because it sounds as if it healed as he walked, duh.
3 more of the same crap, so not going to detail it all, would be longer {but better} than the book; 'same old' as in more things could not even quote in review because would violate the TOS! 2, at BEST!
4 yet MORE of the crap that can't quote because of TOS/'language', EVERY bloody book...cussing for no reason and none of it 'period' either, the nasty habit of using pronouns so don't even know who is talking or to who, more crap smut, more sentences that should have been rearranged or let out or re-ordered or use a semi-colon or something, sheesh. What little interesting happening saw coming from way before happened, the 'main' happenings saw coming ditto, and that one dropped to a 1.
Feisty Cara Devon is on the trail of powerful ancient artifacts in this bestselling historical fantasy series. This bundle contains the entire Artifact Hunters series of 4 full length novels.
1: Nefertiti's Heart -- A killer stalks the nobility seeking a legendary diamond said to have once belonged to Queen Nefertiti and rumoured to hold the key to immortality. {has short story at end, The Missing Mechanical Mouse} THIS GOT A 2! 2: Hatshepsut's Collar -- An ancient Egyptian necklace is driving Queen Victoria mad with megalomania, and that's not Cara's most pressing problem. somewhat less chick crap but then there's the issue with their hearts are linked, no maybe not, yes they're linked and if he dies she dies, someone make up their mind! Too, how many times she going to stick a knife up here sleeve, so far it's twice in a few pages, how many one sleeve hold? THIS 2! 3: Nero's Fiddle -- People start dying from spontaneous human combustion when someone uses a relic from Rome to cover up an old secret. THIS 2! 4: Moseh's Staff -- London is in the grip's of an unnatural winter and Queen Victoria wants answers. Cara suspects who is responsible, she just doesn't know what... THIS 2!

Just needed more artifacts to feel the full force of the title "Artifact Hunters". I guess I was expecting some kind of "Indiana Jones" flavor to these novels because of the title, but everything is to be found in this Victorian era England so it kind of put me off a bit. That put aside, it's very well written and the characters were quite likeable. Maybe a bit too cliché on the female characters side, but I'll leave that debate for another time. The author tried to show the strength of the bond between Cara and Nate, more or less worked for me but the few (many?) attempts via physical intercourse didn't add to it in my opinion. It felt just out of place most of the time and was breaking the flow of the story for me. Heh... Points for trying. The four books all together we're very good though, very consistent and each with its own interesting plot.
Think a steampunk Robin Hood, and a miserable recently orphaned, man-shy girl. Add a Victorian England where magic works, magical artifacts, and a detective with an obsessive desire to blame Nate (Robin) for the murder of his mistress. Add airships, dragons, and assorted wondrous devices.
This is great fun! I was especially pleased to to discover that the author succeeded in maintaining each of the main characters through all four books.
As a retired English teacher, I am very sensitive to misspellings and to the use of the wrong word. I could only find one or two errors in four-plus books...in an e!ectronic publication. I heartily recommend this book
These books put the steamy in steam punk. They weren't what I expected, but for a first foray into the steam punk genre, they swept me up and demanded that I make more time to read. They were well-written and interesting, although, read back to back to back, became a little bit repetitive. Nate's possessiveness and jealousy and Fraser's obsessiveness became a bit tiresome at times. The artifacts and stories around them intrigued me and I went searching for more information many times to verify whether certain things were real or just a part of Ms. Exley's very vivid imagination. Overall, an excellent series. I would definitely continue reading further adventures of Cara and Nate.
An excellent set of stories in a steampunk setting. Set in Queen Victoria's reign, but not as history tells it, the three stories and one short story in this boxed set are about hunting for ancient artifacts which have a terrible effect on the people who use them. Nefertiti's Heart, Hatshepsut's Collar and Nero's Fiddle, and the short story The Missing Mechanical Mouse, are all very good stories. The only trouble is that the author has very seldom written a complete sentence which is very annoying and gives the text some ambiguity. So 4 stars instead of 5.
book #2 was recommended to me as a "You might also like..." suggestion. I was immediately interested because having taken an Egyptology class in College I love Hatshepsut. I started reading the first book and was also delighted to find out it was steampunk. Turns out the books are barely steampunk, and have even less to do with Egypt. But it's a bodice ripper, which I was not upset at reading. It's also well written, with the exception of I find the "recovery" of a sexual and general assault victim to be fairly unbelievable. But putting that aside, I did really enjoy these books.
I found these stories of Cara and Nate enchanting and an enjoyable read. Though there were quite a few grammar mistakes which l was surprised at. A W Exley is an exciting emerging writer. If one wants to forget the toils of life for a short while then one need look no further. Suspend your beliefs and let ones imagination loose for awhile
Bought this on a whim & didn't expect to enjoy it as much as i have. I loved all the characters, Cara was a girl after my own heart, and I couldn't put it down. I grew up in London & thought the steampunk twist was great fun. Kept me interested right to the end....i hope there's more to come....
This is one of my all-time favorite series. It is a refreshing way to look at "history". I love the steam-punk that flows through the story and the characters are good friends now. In the first book we get to meet the amazing heroine and the adventures she goes on are epic. I wish I could give this 10 stars. This is box set to not miss out on.
I had read the first of these books and absolutely loved it! The next two have been such a delight to read! Plus I love anything Steampunk related. Shades of Jules Verne! A search for ancient magical artifacts leads a lonely abused young woman into a life of good vs evil, with all manner of villains and a great love interest. Recommended.
My first steam punk books... and they were good! I like the mix of scifi with historical fiction. And the hunting of the artifacts was an interesting way to put it all together. Will definitely seek out more in this genre...
A really good story, adventure, romance and mystery. The characters were good, I loved Cara, a strong independent woman. There is even a side story of Nan and Nessy, wow. It was nice having all 4 books at once.
I got the first book in this series when it was having a promotion where it was free, and I immediately earmarked the rest for purchase because I loved it so much. I read so extensively that its become hard for me to find things that I enjoy this much. After a while most books blur together because few authors are truly memorable. I was so happy to come across the blend of English and Egyptian in this book because I very much enjoy both. Its also a bit steam punk and overall quite lovely. The trauma Cara suffers is very realistic and how long it took her to warm up to her love interest was actually well done. It gives their story a good twist because they don't just immediately fall into bed together. I am not going to go into any more details of the other books but suffice it to say that they are great, as are the short stories that go with the series.
This is the first 3 books in a series. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the books. I particularly enjoyed the way the author mixed together historical fact and creative fantasy. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Cute, fun series. I love the imagination. The first one had a bit too much sexual descriptions, but after that it was kept to a low roar! I like that she didn't drag things out in the plot.
This series is one of the best I have ever read. I was sad it ended. I will now hunt for more books by Exley to read. I love her writing style, absolutely no down time. The adventures of Nate and Cara in this series was adventurous and exciting. Totally pulled me in.
This series is a winner. The characters are multi layered and complex. There are multiple characters to follow. The stories move through the series complete in each book but is seamless when reading the series.
