Roza Shanina's biography reads like a comic book hero come to life, a heroic female assassin fighting off the Nazi forces at the height of World War II.
Seeking vengeance for the death of her brother, Roza Shanina sacrificed her life for service in the Red Army's fight against the invading Nazis during World War II. This book chronicles how she became the most feared sniper during this time, earning the nickname the “unseen terror” while registering over fifty-six confirmed kills and becoming a hero to the Russian people before her death in 1945.
This book chronicles her amazing journey from kindergarten teacher to the most feared female sniper of all time.
I found the subject matter of this book fascinating. A female teenage sniper rises to national hero during World War II after her siblings are killed. With excerpts taken from her diary I was set for a fantastic book in her own words.
What I found was way too little content. Only 27 pages in the book and not filled with her words but rather conjecture around the words she wrote trying to put together a story. I wish I could find a printing of her journal to read exactly how she wrote it.
This book was like a primer book for a third grader and it could have been so much more with the subject the author was writing about.
Roza's story should be told, thoroughly, with much more research and effort. A look at this young woman who grew up in troubled times and was forced by her love of her family into a situation that no young person should be in.
This is a very short biography. I have not read anything about Roza Shanina before so this was all new information but if someone was already familiar with her story this booklet would probably not have much to offer.
I hadn't heard of Roza Shanina until I came across this free Kindle download today. I started reading the book straight away and am amazed by the determination of this lady, to go against instructions and achieve what she aimed to do in a primarily male setting make her quite extraordinary during the second world war. This is quite a brief book but excellent as an overview and introduction to Roza - I would like to see her diaries one day.
This was a short read at about thirty minutes. The book highlights parts of Roza's private life, with a focus on her career as a female Russian sniper.
