Depois de ler Lucky Luke pelas mãos de um novo autor, resolvi ler um Lucky Luke original, ainda com o cigarro na boca. Com alguns momentos divertidos e uns criminosos muito pouco espertos, esta história entretém.

Now this is a Lucky Luke adventure that has a strong resemblance with the 1965 Sid James & Jim Dale movie ‘Carry On Cowboy’. With a fine assortment of hilarious characters and incredibly funny situations ‘Dalton City’ - which was originally published in French in 1969 – sets the stage for a face-off between ‘Lucky Luke’, the coolest cowboy in town and his old enemies ‘The Dalton’ gang at ‘Fenton Town’, one of the most depraved towns in the old wild west.
Yet another funny, fast paced comic book from Morris and Goscinny, the great legends of comic book world. Like the other titles in the series, the comic frame illustrations are superbly done and the choice of colors are well judged to match the dreamy vistas of the Wild West. The eye for detail that is implemented by Morris and Goscinny are excellent and can be seen from the way in which the storefronts, costumes, sign boards and other minute features are illustrated.
Hilarious descriptions, generous dose of slapstick comedy and funny side-texts combined together with fantastic illustrations make this a lightweight comic book, which can be enjoyed in a breeze.

Es ist meines Wissens das erste Mal, daß ich ein Pferd zitiere, aber den Worten Jolly Jumpers mag ich mich fast anschließen, denn Dalton City, das 49. Abenteuer von Lucky Luke, das im Jahre 1969 erschien, bringt so herrlich absurde Situationen, daß man sich gern fragt, ob da nicht irgendwo ein Knoten im sprichwörtlichen Faden ist. Die Geschichte beginnt in der berüchtigten Stadt Fenton City, die zu einem El Dorado für Desperados geworden ist, so daß es schließlich eines Lucky Lukes bedarf, um dort aufzuräumen. Als Luke das korrupte Stadtoberhaupt Fenton dann dingfest macht, erzählt dieses im Gefängnis den Daltons davon, wie einträglich sein Geschäft in Fenton City war. Dies wiederum bewegt die Daltons dazu, auszubrechen und die Stadt unter dem Namen Dalton City zu neuem Leben zu erwecken.
Lucky Luke folgt den Daltons auf dem Fuße, doch bringen sie ihn in ihre Gewalt, als sie dabei sind, die inzwischen verlassene Geisterstadt wieder ein wenig auf Vordermann zu bringen. Luke, eigentlich ihr Gefangener, läßt die Daltons aber für sich springen, denn er muß nicht nur Averells Kochkünste, sondern auch den Service im Hotel testen, was die Daltons dazu bringt, seine Stiefel zu putzen, ihn mit frischer Bettwäsche zu versorgen oder Jolly Jumper zu striegeln. Dabei faßt er den Plan, den Daltons zu helfen, alle Gesetzlosen der Umgebung nach Dalton City zu locken, um die Möglichkeit zu haben, sie von dort hinter Schloß und Riegel zu bringen. Ein wenig schwächelt die Story daran, daß Luke am Ende nur durch einen Zufall die Oberhand behält, wenn er von der stereotyp in der letzten Minute eintreffenden Kavallerie aus einer mißlichen Lage befreit wird. Daran, sie zu benachrichtigen, hatte er jedoch keinen Anteil. Dafür aber werden wir mit einem Feuerwerk von Gags entschädigt, etwa wenn Joe Dalton sich in die Mae West nachempfundene Saloonsängerin Lulu Carabine verliebt und dies gegenüber Lucky Luke gesteht, um dessen Dienste als Hochzeitswerber in Anspruch zu nehmen. Nur dumm, daß sich auch William in die Dame verguckt – und daß sie längst mit dem Pianisten Wallace verheiratet ist. Immerhin ist Joe großzügig genug, um Luke zu versprechen, ihn erst nach der Hochzeit umzulegen.
Eine der köstlichsten Szenen ist sicherlich, wie Jack Luke überwacht, als dieser während der Feierlichkeiten in einem Saloon voller Desperados den Barkeeper spielen muß. Damit Luke nicht etwa die Gäste vergiftet, hat Jack sich vorgenommen, jeden einzelnen Drink vorher eigenmündig zu probieren, was die erwarteten Folgen für seinen Zustand zeitigt. Schließlich lallt er: „Gib mir ein Glas, Jokote, aber ich w … will es vorher probieren.“ Natürlich darf in einem Dalton-Abenteuer auch Rantanplan nicht fehlen, der hier ein paar besonders schöne Momente hat – unter anderem als einziger Feinschmecker, der Averells Kochkünste zu würdigen weiß und in seiner kulinarischen Experimentierfreude selbst vor einem Stück Seife nicht Halt macht.
Kurzgesagt, auch wenn das Ende ein wenig unbefriedigend ist und die Story ein wenig Zeit benötigt, um richtig in Gang zu kommen, wenn es erst einmal so weit ist, erreicht dieses Abenteuer eine sehr hohe Gag-Dichte und trifft genau ins Schwarze. Ein Dalton City gibt es übrigens wirklich, und zwar im Bundesstaat Illinois mit etwa 544 Einwohnern im Jahre 2010.

The aborted introductory story is far more compelling than the real story. Which shows that, even in comedy, it’s good to have serious conflict and high stakes.
The opening establishes a lawless town that has become a criminal haven. Quite effectively and at length. A town that chews up sherrifs and spits out tin stars. And into this den of iniquity walks Lucky Luke. It’s a dramatic moment promising drama and tension. But it’s all downhill from there.
Lucky Luke immediately and effortlessly cleans up the town, hauling its leader to prison. Now we have a second intro, with more setup, but much more low key this time. Dumb gags concerning incompetent telegraphy, a stupid dog, a prisoner who loves jail. The rest of the story is like that — a series of wretched gags.
The Daltons eventually break out of prison and, having heard about the town of criminals from its former mayor (the only justification for including the opening), decide to rebuild it and call it Dalton city. Lucky Luke turns up and (inexplicably) is immediately captured by the Daltons. Instead of killing him, they (inexplicably) decide to make him work for a while.

Pretty soon Luke is running the show, manipulating the Daltons into all sorts of tomfoolery. After a bunch of bad jokes, Luke arranges a fake wedding. The local outlaws are all invited, but it’s an ambush and everyone winds up in prison. The end.

The plot is a contrivance without a hint of danger. Pure expediency to facilitate the abysmal humor, much of it at the expense of a very nice dog.
Art is very good.

This is another funny book in the series and introduces the Dalton Gang, a group that will become a running gag in the series and yet another reference (loosely) to actual real history.
We start off with another town with another crooked mayor. Luke manages him, there's a saloon fire and we get introduced to one of the absolute dumbest dogs ever, Rin Tin Can. The dog also becomes a running joke in the series of books.
Joe Dalton is in prison and hates almost everyone. He is up for release but actually doesn't want to leave. He founds a town and Luke helps him out, showing him how to set up a thriving town with a thriving saloon. He suggests the town become a refuge for crooks from all over.
Luke, though, has long-term thinking and how it pays off is really neat.

What do I do whit this one. (commentary includes SPOILER)
The art is good, and it has good jokes in it, and the story makes sense and is fine. But I am not sure if I want to give it a 4, but a 3 also feels a bit to low.
The perspect of Joe trying to marrie is ok. Maybe a bit awkward, and cruel, given what Luke does, but its good enough for a storyline. But I also think the Idea of the daltons opening a city for bandits is realy fun, and we didnt saw much of that because it only happened at the very end, and thats a thorn in my side I cant get over whit.
While I think the pay off was not as bad as in the animated version, I think its a volume what starts on a above average point, but never realy rises up to be realy good.

I have a 1974 paperback reprint from Brockhampton Press. Originally published in French by Dargaud in 1969, this was the 34th episode in the series. As a child I never quite got this one as it is full of series in-jokes and highly self-referential. The story is very simple and has little or no logic to it, but it is very funny. Reading it as an adult a few decades later I’m finding many more jokes that went completely over my head at the time. This is an example of the perfect Lucky Luke formula working all by itself, a stopgap between meatier episodes which is a tribute to the sheer industry of the authors. A pleasure to rediscover.

In 'Dalton City' proberen de Daltons een verlaten stad weer nieuw leven in te blazen. Lucky Luke helpt ze een handje, vooral wanneer hij doorheeft dat Joe een oogje heeft op zangeres Lulu Carabine (een overduidelijke karikatuur van Mae West). Het is een beetje onwennig om de Daltons verliefde te zien en gevaarlijk worden ze al helemaal nergens. Misschien wil daarom dit verhaal maar niet echt van de grond komen. Het mist zowel de spanning als de scherpere satire van Lucky Luke's beste albums.

June 24, 2024وای! چطوری این قدر بانمک است؟ یک لوک خوششانس قبراق با جالی دلبر و البته دیدن دالتونها برای اولین بار روی کاغذ. قصه خیلی جالب شروع میشود. در صفحههای اول لوک خلافکاری را دستگیر میکند و به زندان میفرستد. او قصهاش را در زندان تعریف میکند و دالتونها بعد از فرار همیشگی تصمیم میگیرند شهر خودشان را تاسیس کنند. یعنی شخصیتهای اصلی در همان اول معرفی نمیشوند. اما بانمکتر اینجا است که باید از لوک کمک بگیرند و چی بانمکتر از این؟ تا یادم نرفته بوشفک هم در این قصه هست.

Este capítulo da a relucir la inteligencia de Lucky Luke y la incompetencia de los Dalton. En algunas ocasiones hay metamensajes que solo un fan de la serie comprenderá. Como siempre lleno de paneles entretenidos y chistes muy ingeniosos.
La verdad no hay mucho que recomendar para alguien que no sea fanatico de la serie. Pero es un buen rato para quien sea.

Ennesimo scontro tra Lucky Luke e i Dalton. In questo episodio, i 4 fratelli decidono di fondare una propria città, in cui ospitare i peggiori "desperados". Purtroppo per loro, l'eroico cowboy non ha intenzione di lasciarli fare!

This was a really good volume! The theme is very similar to the rest of the Dalton-themed books but in the end somehow this was great fun! The internal strife between our beloved Daltons or the stupid, but loveable nature of Rantanplan all adds to the fun! This volume will make you laugh for sure!
