Internally clean, unmarked and whole, and most of the cover is fine; but about 1 inch of the cover spine bottom has been frayed, and the jacket in tat area has a large chip. Still a serviceable reading copy with the scarce dust jacket of a book not easy to find, at an attractive price.

About the author

Kenneth Patchen was an American poet and novelist. He experimented with different forms of writing and incorporated painting, drawing, and jazz music into his works, which have been compared with those of William Blake and Walt Whitman. Patchen's biographer wrote that he "developed in his fabulous fables, love poems, and picture poems a deep yet modern mythology that conveys a sense of compassionate wonder amidst the world's violence." Along with his friend and peer Kenneth Rexroth, he was a central influence on the San Francisco Renaissance and the Beat Generation.

Этот сборник цельный, довольно мрачный, если не сказать апокалиптичный. Впрочем, «мрачность» — как и часть его причудливой системы образов в ряде сборников по отдельности и вообще — становится несколько «ручной», если не забывать, что он считал себя духовным сыном Уильяма Блейка, а основную точку его системы координат составлял «Иерусалим».
По необходимости я вынужден не «рецензировать» его поэтические книги, а вот эдак приблизительно описывать, ибо лучшим осмыслением его (да и любой другой) поэзии будет просто переводить ее, пропуская через себя, иначе это будет просто сотрясение воздуха в духе тех критиков, которые, в общем, никогда не понимали масштабов его свершений.
