Declutter in 10 Easy Steps: Free Yourself From the Confusion of a Cluttered Home and Mind (Minimalism, Decluttering, and Tidying up Book 1) — J. A. Sutton (10 name chapters) — Oct. 11, 2017
Yes, this is a LONG title. But it reads pretty quick. Also, it follows a whole smattering of books I have read on this topic recently. So, how did it stack up compared to those other ones?
First, this book is best read on a tablet. There are photographs in it that aren’t going to transition well to an e-reader. Second, the author does have some new, unique ideas (taking a photo before/at beginning of cleaning is an awesome idea!) Third, the chapters are SHORT! Any one who is short on time can quickly read through this book and get a few new ideas/inspiration for working in their own clutter. One thing I didn’t like was when the author suggests you might go shopping. Isn’t this how a lot of people accumulate clutter? I would suggest that you probably have all the prep items you need at home, if not the actual items suggested to buy. Another great idea was setting a timer when you tackle a room, or section of room. This author likes to take the approach of cleaning visible spaces first, and invisible (drawers, inside of cabinets, for example,) last. That’s kind of a nice idea because it always feels better to have visible space cleared/cleaned the n you come home. The disadvantage is I might put off ever going into the invisible spaces to clear out!
Overall, one of the better decluttering books I’ve read. That it was short and too the point absolutely helped!
This book is short and to the point. It helped me to visualize the tasks and believe that I can get through the 10 years of clutter in my house. I like this book BECAUSE it is short and clear.
Removing clutter is a cleansing of the mind, body and soul, as well as your home. It didn't happen overnight and it will take time to clear your home. Don't get discouraged and quit. The reward of a de-cluttered house is well worth the effort.
