Friendly message to the publishers: this is the fourth instalment in this series. One would think you'd have figured out what the MC looks like by now, right? Right. Here's a quick reminder for you silly lovely people at Hazy Dawn Press: Shanti is blonde. As in BLONDE. Got that? Good. Now please take a look at the book covers for this series. See a discrepancy there? Albeit a SLIGHT one? I rest my case.

Okay people, remember what happens when I try reviewing any book in this series? Yep, that's right, I have nothing to say. Grey cells fried, synapses on strike, neurons missing and all that. Yep, this series is *that* good.

All I can do when it comes to all things Shanti is show the lurrrrrve. But before that, a quick warning:

☣️ If you are looking for romance and sex (you so silly): do not read this book. Ever.
☣️ If you are looking for non-stop action, bloody fights and kick ass female characters (you so awesome): read this book. Yesterday.

Ladies and gentlemen…welcome back to The Lurve Review™ aka Why I Freaking Love This Book in Particular and This Series in General™!

Let's start with the obvious, shall we?

♥ I love Shanti.
♥ I love Shanti.
♥ I love Shanti.
♥ I love Shanti.

Moving on.

What else? I LOVE all the female characters in this book. Because they ALL kicks ass. Yes. Every single one. You know what? This series should be mandatory reading for all crappy PNR writers on the planet. Because this, lame-a-saurus ladies who shall not be named, is how you write women characters. No rapey or demeaning behavior towards the gentler badass sex in Shanti's world. Submission is not an option. You either kick ass, fight or die trying. Take that [names removed for this reviewer's safety ] !

Now let me ask you a question real quick: when you think of the expression "women's circle," what comes to mind? I'm guessing something like this:

Hahahaha, you're so funny! Women's Circle? This ↑↑? Not in Shanti's world. It's more something like this:

Or this:

And a little bit like this, too:

So what do we have here? Boom + "honey, my food tastes weird" + cut cut cut, slice slice slice =

Okay, I'm not being really fair here (how very uncharacteristic of me, I'm usually as fair as they come). The guys in this series are pretty cool. Some of my MacHalo colleagues keep fanning themselves over Cayan but not me, nuh-uh. I mean, come on, the guy's much too nice and well-intentioned for my taste. Not nearly aggravating enough. Now Sanders I'm definitely kidnapping for my harem. I don't care if he's married. Poof! Gone! Ronan is pretty cool, too. He's kind of like Shanti only that his personal dead body count is significantly lower than hers (that should be expected, he is nothing but a frail man after all). You could also say he's friendlier than Shanti somewhat: he usually asks questions first and then goes on with the bodily harm stuff. Shanti on the other hand…well, you know, she's Shanti. She kills first and asks questions later. "Drop dead you worm," and all that stuff. Damn I luuuurrrvve this girl.

And you know what else I luuurrrrve about this book? The action. The fights. The blood. The gore. The booms. The bam-you're-deads. The amazeballs mental warfare. But it's not all blood-and-gore-yay, you know. There are super cool kids to be had, too (little Arsen is mine. For joint custody queries, please contact my lawyer). And lots of humour. Yep, that's right. Because you can kick serious ass and be funny at the same time. Ha.

Anything else? Sure. This book is freaking awesome. This book is fantastic. This book is brilliant. This book is amazing. This book is fucking incredible. This book is OMG-I-Can't-Put-It-Down-I-Don't-Care-If-I'll-Only-Get-Two-Hours-Of-Sleep-Tonight. Need I say more? Didn't think so.

You better read this. Before Shanti comes for you.

5 WOW-WORTHY STARS!

The most noteworthy points of Invasion:

◘ The reunion.

◘ The intimate scenes.

◘ The declaration of love.

Someone's POV.

The charms from the previous books were still here, obviously. The fight scenes were more fierce. And I exist for that, especially when some of those ass-kicking business were delivered by women. You go, women. You go.

I am still very much obsessed with mesasha, even more so when Cayan finally revealed what it means (it actually happened in the previous book). I swear I'm gonna name it to one of my children.

When I got to someone's POV, I died. Seriously. My heart stopped beating for what felt like 1,082 years. Surprised would be an understatement.

I literally flew through this. And this is, by far, the fastest one I've read in this series.

Every POV, every chapter held my utmost attention. I actually groaned when the uni bell rang which means we have to move our lesson in the laboratory. Which sucks, big time. Because I don't wanna get out of my seat. I don't wanna get out of the comfort of my classmate blocking me from our professor's sight.

I just want to go home and finish this book. My grades in O-chem be damned. I was that hooked. That's how captivating this book was.

Where the previous book, SHADOW LANDS, failed to completely enchant me, INVASION makes up for it.

*** 4 ***

A buddy read with the MacHalo Freaks, because we all love kick-ass warrior women!

"....“Shanti is already in the thick of it. She’s still alive, and from what I can tell, she’s fighting in the dirty, underhanded way only she could make glamorous.”..."

So, once again, this was very fun, funny and entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading it. I love the perfect size of the books, since they are just long enough to make you care and short enough not to give you any reason to get tired of it...

Shanti kicked ass once again, just as we have grown to expect form her, but we did not get much character growth by any of the characters we have grown to care about through the series. Yes, it is war and yes, they have to infiltrate their taken over by the enemy city, but you would think some of the interpersonal issues would be solved too... I guess there isn't much time to decide if you are going to commit to a relationship with a man you are clearly in love with, while someone is trying to capture you and turn you into a breeding mare for the Supreme Being while killing most of your friends, although we could always hope. I guess Fate has intervened plenty up to now for the two parties involved not to get the point that they obviously belong together... At least that silly celibacy thing ended in the last book. Why waste time when you are young, willing and able, right?:)

"....“Fate. I bloody hate Fate. He’s such a nosy bastard.” ..."

So, this was a fast-paste light Fantasy with a ton of humorous banter and likable characters and I would recommend it to anyone who is up for something more compact and less grim than the more popular big series out there... Worth to give it a chance:):):)

"....“There was no way she was going to let it (the horse Old Bastard) off easy by spending its life knocking up mares. If she couldn’t hang around and have sex all day, neither could it. Fair was fair.” ..."

Now I wish you all Happy Reading and many more wonderful Books to Come!!!

“Nothing is a mistake until you get caught”

Once again, this book was funny and entertaining, and I had a great time reading it. While Shanti, Cayan, and their group were in the Shadow Lands, the Hunter took control of their city and it’s now up to them to fight the Hunter’s Inknas and Graygual to free it. This book has different POVs, and it was a nice novelty. We also got to see a little more of Lucius (but still not enough) and Ruisa.

“Shanti is already in the thick of it. She’s still alive, and from what I can tell, she’s fighting in the dirty, underhanded way only she could make glamorous.”

Now let’s talk about empowering women! This book is full of kick-ass and strong female characters. Shanti manages to slip into the city with Rohnan and realizes that the Women’s Circle has taken matters into their own hands. They are distributing poison, constructing explosive devices, and have plans to break people out of the prison. They even use the help of the city’s orphan to sabotage the Hunter’s army from the inside.

“Do I have shit on my face or something?” Shanti asked in exasperation. “It’s not like I’m wearing rags.”
“Usually respectable women don’t look like the underside of a shoe,” Sanders said as he passed by, walking toward the other end of the line.

The interactions between Shanti and Sanders are as funny as they were in the first book. There are more funny moments in this book than in Shadow Lands, and I am glad for it. I missed the banter, the sarcasm, and the quirk of the characters.

“This is turning into a bad day.”
“You started it.”
“A bar fight might be in my future.”
“Let’s find a place to stay, and then we’ll find a different place to start a fight.”
It was sound logic.

My only complaint would be about the lack of character development. Shanti kicked ass, the members of the Women’s Circle were awesome, but not much growth happens to any of the characters we’ve come to know and love. This book is more focused on the war, and the fights to reclaim the city, but not much of the personal and inter-personal issues are solved.

The relationship between Shanti and Cayan is still moving slowly. She has finally acknowledged and accepted her feelings for him, but she knows that it’s pointless to hope to settle down and have a “normal” life with him because her duty remains. She must kill Xandre or die trying. Because of that, there is not much romance in the book, there is a lot of action though, especially in the last 25%, it does not stop. The fight scenes are also more detailed, and fiercer than in the previous books.

This was the best book of the series, way better then 2 & 3 and just slightly better then 1.

The story came from multiple POV which was interesting and had a clear goal, to win back the city and take down The Hunter. I'm looking forward to the final 2 books of the series to see how it ends, and if and how Shanti can eever be integrated into society.

I was worried this would suck, but it was mostly quick wit and action and coolness. Shanti is still probably my spirit animal. Cayan is still my dreamboat imaginary boyfriend. That's as much of a review as you are getting.

This was another MacHalo buddy read, and the MacHalos are the bee's knees.

"Ruisa is positive the women of your city will fend for themselves."
"She's young and idealistic. It's one thing to have the knowledge to defend yourself, but another to stand up to tyranny."
"She thinks they'll just poison everyone and be done with it."

Literally what happens 😂 Loved the girl power in this book these women were funnyyy and full of surprises

description

"This is a big risk," Rohnan warned.
"The risk is where to stash the body," Shanti replied.
"I can think of three places," Ruisa said.
Shanti blinked, shocked mute for the second time.

Someone just get this girl a medal. Ruisa's MVP of the honor squad no contest. And Sanders had me in my feels by the end of this

5 Stars... This read is action packed with suspenseful, nail biting moments... We watch as our beloved Shanti and Cayan battle with the feared Hunter in order to save their city... As the pending battle looms, we see Shanti's people begin to gravitate towards her seeking a much anticipated reunion as well as the Shadow people fighting their way to join forces with their allies... We see many of the secondary characters grow into their roles as warriors, spies, and healers, but most of all we see the women of Cayan's city shift from meek to fearless and fierce as they manipulate and control the enemy... I truly enjoyed getting to know these extraordinary women and watch them demonstrate their strengths and abilities protecting their people... As the sure to be climactic ending draws near, we are further entrenched with these unique and fascinating characters in their quest for justice and freedom... Highly anticipating the next read!:)

Now usually I would complain about the need for six books when all the characters seem to do is travel, cut down the traveling and write the damn story, I'd say. Usually. Well not today, not today. I am so loving this series, every journey is an experience in it self, when you think its just normal foes think again. I love Shanti and Cayan, love the Honor Guard and the Commanders, I am loving everyone at this point. It's so sad the conclusion is near but I can't wait!

I'm giving up on this series. There are a lot of great things I like about this book and the series but it is not coming together for me. I also haven't been able to get into the narrator's style in her audiobook presentation of the story.

The strong points for me are the cast of characters. Sanders is still my favorite character and perhaps Shanti's bastard of a horse. The weakness (IMO) is that the storyline has gone flat. While there are new elements in this story, it still seems repetitive. The result, for me at least, is cartoonish dialog and action.

The book and series has some explicit sex scenes and profanity. I think though these books are probaly better suited to a young adult audience.

This series has quickly become one of my favourites so I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of Invasion. I was a little nervous in case it didn't live up to my expectations but I needn't have worried because K.F. Breene smashed them. The series is going from strength to strength and I loved every minute of this book.

Shanti and Cayan may have won the respect of the Shadow people and have added some incredibly skilled new fighters to their army because of it but the real battle is only just beginning and it's now time to face the Hunter once more. While they've been busy on the island the Hunter has been getting into position and now he's taken Cayan's city by force and is using the people Shanti and Cayan care about to force them into doing what he wants. Neither of them are characters who will give up without a fight but now they're in the difficult position of trying to defeat their enemy without getting an entire city full of hostages caught in the crossfire.

As much as I love this series I've always been more than a little irritated by the attitude of the guys in Cayan's army. They think of women as the weaker sex who need to be coddled and protected and I've never liked that about them. Shanti has been working hard to change their opinion and while they may have finally realised that she is as strong as the best of them (the fact she's constantly wiping the floor with them has probably helped with that!) they still think of the women from their own city as pretty much helpless. Sometimes it can be an advantage when women are underestimated though and in this case the Hunter is making the same mistake as Cayan's army always has. The city is under siege but it's only really the men who have been imprisoned and who are being closely monitored. The Women's Circle have been staying under the radar but secretly plotting and have put plans in place to rescue their men folk. I absolutely loved seeing Shanti and the Women's Circle in action, these ladies are more than capable of protecting their own and they prove it a thousand times over. Cayan and the rest of the men are going to have no choice but to accept that now and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this changes the dynamics as the series continues.

Invasion is full of action, the plot pretty much never allows you time to breathe because the characters are going from one battle to the next and facing up against more difficult odds than ever. We also get to meet a whole group of new characters, not only are we getting to learn more about the Shadow warriors but we finally get the chance to meet some of the people from Shanti's homeland. I'll admit I was confused at first because the opening chapter starts from the point of view of a completely new set of characters but once I realised what was going on I was really excited at the chance to learn more about where Shanti came from and to see her through the eyes of her people. I was also slightly disappointed that we didn't see more of Shanti and Cayan working together but the more I think about it the more I'm actually pleased about it - it's good to see that even though they're a couple they're not joined at the hip and that they are still going to play to their strengths even if that means working separately for a while.

I'm absolutely loving this series and I can't wait for the next book, please write quickly Ms Breene, please, please write quickly!

4.5 stars....I have to admit, this book made it a bit harder for me to keep up, because of the (four?) different groups of people (I can't remember all of them right now) who were travelling the land, to end up in Cayan's city.
Which was occupied by the Hunter and his Grayguals. We follow these journeys and various troubles, which lead to the fight over the city. We finally meet Shanti's people and it's great to see them all fight together. The pictures Mrs Breene paints are simply EPIC and she never fails to surprise and amaze me. And Shanti being Shanti was awesome as usual. So what more can I say? I can't wait to see how Shanti's journey continues. So bring it on Mrs Breene! BRING IT ON!

This is one of the best fantasy series I've read in awhile. It is keeping me on the edge of my seat and the lack of smut isn't even phasing me. It's really something to admire. Lol.

Shanti, Cayan, and friends are still working towards taking out the Being Supreme in this book and after their big win last book they're hopeful to move forward in said plan this book. But all the while they think The Hunter is off licking his wounds but he's plotting and scheming and things finally hit off in this book with The Hunter and it was fantastic! :D

On to the next!

Shanti and Cayan rush back to Cayan’s city to find the Hunter has taken over. They must rely on the Women’s Circle within the city to help them take it back, the repercussions of these events mean that gender roles within the city are questioned.

I am loving this series. I adore Shanti as our MC. I particularly admire her sense of duty, even when it interferes with her happiness. I also like that she doesn't particularly want the power she has or that which is promised should she succeed in her task to free the land. I also love that Cayan has figured all this out about her and is willing to relinquish his typical role as the leader to be her right-hand man instead and he loves her, aw! Yep, I'm totally hooked and I'm ready to see them through this quest.

Fantastic

I read the first three books a couple of years ago but didn’t own these. I’ve been meaning to finish the series ever since.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story though really should have refreshed myself on the previous books for maximum benefit. Trouble is that I don’t have time for rereads given all the books on my TBR list.

This is book four in a series, if you’re planning on reading it you will already be invested in the series and it’s amazing characters. The pace of this feels a little slower, the story less action packed, but that allowed time for relationships to be explored and new characters to be introduced.

I loved the quiet female rebellion, both against the invaders but also against the patriarchy. You’ve got to love a woman who makes bombs as a hobby.

This is a series I highly recommend, I am now of to read book 5 in the series.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes
MCs: Shanti & Cayan

I am writing just one review for the whole series and you will finde the same review in all six books!

The warrior chronicles is a great series, which includes the books Chosen, Hunted, Shadow Lands, Invasion, Siege and Overtaken.

The whole series reminded me a lot of older fantasy series where you have a world building, people with different gifts and humans, some beasts and basically the war good against bad. And I would place Worrier Chronicles with series like Belgariad (David Eddings), the Darkover series (Marion Zimmer Bradley), The Riftwar Cycle (Raymond Feist).

Shanti, the FMC, is a strong heroine with some self doubt but a strong loyalty for her people and knowing and accepting her duty. Cayan, the MMC, who is kind of a king in a city that is faring very well, is also a strong hero. Both are well matched.

And there are a lot of side characters, which we grow to love, like Rohan, who is Shantis protector and brother, Sanders (a higher ranking soldier in Cayans army), the boys who grow into men of her honour guard and several more.

I actually binged the first four and a half books but then I realised that if I binge the last 1.5 books left then I will have to leave this characters and this world behind and only a reread will bring me back there. And I felt very reluctant to leave it behind, so I started to read only little bits to prolong my stay with Shanti and Cayan and the other. In the end I decided that I have to take the pill and binge it to the end.

Breene is a great author and I really love the series. And I would truly recommend it to fans of above mentions authors.

best of the series so far! this whole series has been about love and hardship and strength, fate, destiny, and the life of a warrior. of a fighter. and k.f. breene brings to life not only the typical soldier and leader heroine, the uber strong and highly skilled brute but the underdog, the gentile and often-times underestimated softer, quieter strength. multifaceted and intriguingly exciting, this series is definitely worth the read, getting better with each book and Invasion is no exception.
There is more to strength that power and muscle and swords and K.F. Breene showcases that in Invasion with all the same awesome characters and new intriguing characters, all with the same exciting, entrancing, and entertaining storytelling that will have you laughing and cheering, crying, and biting your nails until the end.
ABSOLUTELY recommend.

The Warrior Chronicles is a hard series to put down I'm finding the tale of Shanti and Cayan highly addictive, I love the storylines, the action, the mayhem and magic all rolled into a strategy to beat the bad guys Xandre really won't know what hits him when Shanti and Cayan find him and the journey to get to the final battle is a full throttle adventure.

I liked this one a lot more than 2 and 3. Probably because of the infusion of fresh characters. And probably because of less scenes with Shanti and Cayan together. I swear, if they're not currently doinit, she's just not that into him. Her lack of enthusiasm = my lack of enthusiasm. And not only that, kinda messed up to be thinking 'when should I tell him this is over' right before and after "bedding" him. Poor schmuck, Cayan.

For those who are all like "Don't be reading this book for the romance, you're supposed to be reading it for all the kickass fighting scenes!"

Yeahhh but,
Obviously, Breene wants this to also be a romance or wtf up with all the romance scenes? It's just a crappy romance so fans b like "Don't look over there! Look over here!"

The fighting scenes are still cool even though after a while all the battle scenes starts to feel the exact same. This one did have some different things going on: new crew who's crazy in sync, bombs, poison. So we do get that in addition to the usual lightening fast reflexes, sword fighting, knife throwing, battering mental shields, lowering shields for a sec for a mental stab at the opposition, getting tired, not gonna make it, help has arrived, hurrah! Now they are a formidable force. They kick ass once again, oh no, something is unexpected, expend all your strength! *Wakes up in hospital, doesn't want to wear the hospital gown*

Oh look, I just summarized all the books. There ya go.

So I received a copy from the author for an honest review for this book, and so I went into my TBR and started from the first one to the last and even though I had many sleepless nights, I gotta say K.F. Breene has made me once again kneel before her and bow down to her awesomeness.

Shanti and Cayan and the crew are going into battle to try and save Cayans's city and his people from the Hunter and his minions. We are introduced to new characters which was fun, when you read you will know why. There is a lot of action going in this installment. The Hunter has the upper hand and it will take a lot of fighting and energy to try and get it back. Shanti and Cayan are destined to be together but Shanti has her reasons of not going into it 100 percent. I love these two, the chemistry is outstanding. I can not wait for the next installment.

I you haven't read any of her books, please do so, she will not disappoint you!!!!!!!!

This one finally kicked things up a notch. The pacing was tighter, the stakes felt real, and the character dynamics started to really click. I’m still loving the blend of action, magic, and sass (though thankfully the sass was a bit more balanced this time). The romance finally started to feel earned, and the emotional moments hit harder than I expected. Definitely the strongest in the series so far—felt like all the buildup is finally paying off.

This is the 4 book from the Chosen series. Dialogs are so well written, and sometimes so funny i laugh really hard.
Here we get to know some of Shanti people, and they are dangerous, really ddangerous. She and the Cayan had some really hard battles, and sometimes i was really woried. I was really surprised abaut women in Cayan citiy, they knew their stuff, and it was wery helpful stuff, whic helped them all.
This book was a really good read, and i will absolutely re read the whole series.
I cant wait to so what will K.F.Breene put together in next book, i have really high expectations for the next book.
I recommend this whole series to everyone who likes, aciton, sassy heroines, good and funny dialogs, god story....
