In the aftermath of Culloden, Colin Anderson, a Highlander by birth, finds himself torn between his late father’s allegiance to the Crown and the cause of the Jacobites, his clansmen. Due to his father’s choices, Colin is still laird of his castle, but at what cost? Beth Pratt never suspected when she joined a bus tour of the Highlands in the twenty-first century that she would find herself catapulted through time to the eighteenth century. She never imagined she too would find herself caught up in the conflict that irrevocably ended the Highlander way of life. But when the laird makes a fateful decision that threatens to destroy everything he holds dear, can Beth save him in time? Book 1 - My Laird's Castle Book 2 - My Laird's Love Book 3 - My Laird's Heart (coming July 2016)
I've been writing romance fiction since 2006 and have published 20 books. I write time travel romances, contemporary romances, romantic suspense, and light paranormal romances (lovelorn ghosty stuff).
A gypsy at heart, I've lived in Aruba, Venezuela, Arizona and California (thanks to my parents, and in Guam, Wyoming, Washington State, Belgium, Washington D.C., Maryland, Montana, Turkey and Alaska (thanks to my time in the U.S. Air Force. Since then, I've lived in Idaho, Nebraska and Alabama in addition to visiting many more countries and states, and I'm determined to Goodreads friend everyone from all those places plus many more!
Story was good enough - a time travel historical romance. I like those, but this one was just so simple. I never saw any romance - the author said they fell in love. I'll take her word for it because I never saw it happen.
I fell in love with this book when I saw the title and the cover. The story just made me fall in love more.
Beth is visiting Scotland on a bus tour when a quick visit to a stream lands her in 1746. Unaware of the year she is rescued from a storm by Colin Anderson, a born Highlander. She comes to know the truth and without a way home she is left in the care of Colin. She quickly falls in love. From British soldiers to Jacobite rebellions, this book has it all. Through it all they still manage to find a love of a lifetime. Both hers and his.
I have read many books by Bess McBride, but this has been favorite series yet. I love Scottish books and anything to do with Highlanders. The time travel adds to an already great book. I loved the characters and the history. This story painted a great picture of life in the Highlands. I can not wait to read more books in this series....Stormi
I am embarrassed to admit that I read this very shallow, poorly written bok. I cannot think of one redeeming thing to say for it. The heroine traveled through time, met the hero, had a few adventures, she traveled through time again to change what little happened the first time and the book ended. There was no character development but they immediately fell in love. What a colossal waste of my time. I love time travel books, but this one lacked anything interesting.
I am not a big fan of romance but I do like time travel. The characters are good, as is the setting. Some time travel romances are really just historical romances with one character from the future but the time travel doesn't really affect the plot. This one has a great twist toward the end.
This wasn't awful, but it wasn't very good either. It was overly simple. And the time travel device was a bit silly. Romance wasn't very well developed. Specially the 2nd time around.
21st century woman on a tour of Scotland travels through time & lands in mid 18th century Scotland. Original, no this is not. Had a very difficult time getting through the 1st part of the book because of one thing I absolutely loathe - phonetically spelling dialect, compounded by inconsistent phonetically spelling dialect. Major historical things were well researched but the character development was non existent. When the tale came to its natural conclusion (to be read as “it should have ended here”), Beth comes back to the 21st century only to time hop back to 1746. The previous 3/4 of the book are then summarized in a few pages before you get to the happily ever after.
I read Searching for Highlanders series before this one and I think the author has some creative ideas for time travel romance but honestly her writing is immature and poor character development with no climax. All of her books I read based on a heroine who fall through time. I found that heroines are very unlikable. They are prude, insensitive, useless because they have no common 21st century knowledge and sense of independence of modern females. I can't believe how come the author creates a protagonist without redeeming quality. Hope the author can improve her characters and plots in her later works.
While on a coach tour of Scotland, Elizabeth Pratt unexpectedly is transported to the eighteenth century not long after the Battle of Culloden. She is found by Colin Anderson who takes her to his castle to protect her from both the English soldiers and the Scottish rebels.
The story is both historical and controversial, for Beth is able to tell Colin about the future with no consequences, as well as to "do it over" when there is an unsatisfactory outcome. What does it matter if history is altered so long as Beth gets what she wants?
“Elizabeth Pratt is touring Scotland, after taking a sip from the stream she wakes up in 18th century Scotland. Then she comes face to face Colin Anderson he offers her shelter at his castle. Beth learns he is Lord Anderson is the Earl of Halkhead and hates having the English always seeking shelter at his castle. While she adapts to living in the past and event happens amd she must fix it. Good book lil fast paced but Lovely
My rating 3.5. I enjoyed this clean, time travel romance. The ending seemed rushed but it was still a nice story. I am going on to book 2. It doesn't appear to be related to the characters in book 1.
While on a bus tour of Scotland. Beth finds herself back in eighteenth century Scotland. Being found my a local Laird Colin she fights every step of the way. When hearts get involved she needs to find a way to change the past. Enjoyed the story.
I enjoyed the book very much. Her style of writing is light and airy, she doesn't get too into the story and keeps the characters light. I prefer more intimate details, but also very much enjoyed her lighter side of story telling.
An interesting twist on time-travel fiction has a heroine who can control her time-travel, but only back and forth from the present to when she was first accidentally transported to Scotland shortly after the Battle of Culloden.
A time travel romance with some interesting twists with the interaction between the English soldiers and the Scottish rebels. Beth and Colin fall in love twice during this repeat of time adventure. Enjoyable and fun to read.
Elizabeth Traveled not once but twice to the Scottish Highlands. On a tour that stopped at the Battle of Culloden, she splashes water on her face and traveled back in time, fell in love with Colin. So read to find out about the second time.
A very shallow book with little happening and no character development. I am not sure that the finer points of history were quite accurate, and would have liked more detail on historical events.
This was a really great read. I honestly couldn't put it down. The story was great and I loved the romance. I cried and just loved it! I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
Wonderfully fantastic story ... You won't want to put this sub one down... Writing is the best ... This author keeps you waiting until this time end an
Bess McBride is an extraordinary writer and person. I love all her work! But this book I believe this series is an amazing stretch of her talents. What is particularly gripped about this book is the background story of Culloden. Outstanding writing warm characters of Colin and Beth, I can hardly wait for part two maybe Stephen and Elinor
Bess McBride is known for her time travel romances and this one does not disappoint. Beth travels to post Culloden Scotland and meets a laird who steals her heart. There is intrigue with English soldiers and Jacobites and even a love triangle.
