The Purpose Driven Life is a favorite book of mine, so buying this devotional by Rick Warren for my kids was a no-brainer.
In this book, a devotion is shared for each day of the year which also includes a Bible verse and prayer. This is the perfect devotional for us because we use it first thing in the morning and turn it into a mini Bible study. Often within each devotional, a verse will be mentioned and that expands into further Bible study if desired. The devotionals are written in a manner that tie in with real-life experiences which makes them feel personal, and children can identify with them easily.
Keeping my kids in their Bibles daily and not just having it be a Sunday habit is an ongoing goal. This book makes it simple because they really enjoy reading it every morning. I believe it's books such as this one that instill a firm foundation for their future.
Written for children who have little to no know christian education, I would also recommend it for adults who are new to the faith but my children are in a Christian academy and found it a little boring. I tried reading it with excitement but they said it didn’t help them to get anything out of it.
I started the devotional with my kids, but after just a few days in I quickly decided we won't be finishing this one. On Day 13, some of the phrasing was written in very poor taste for a child audience such as "there are illegitimate parents but not illegitimate children", "many children are unplanned by their parents", and "it doesn't matter whether...you've ever met them." This wording could provoke a lot of questions from children that are not related to the goal of learning what it means to live a life for God.
We read this as a family. I felt the organization was a bit random and didn't like that the single verses that the discussion for each day was based on were often snatched without giving enough context. The devotions themselves were age appropriate, aimed at both truth and character formation and ended with a helpful suggested prayer. Would perhaps be best used as a child bridges into having his/her own personal devotional time.
Way back in 2002 our whole church body from the youth group to the senior adults spent 40 days studying The Purpose Driven Life. All these years later the truths that I learned still resonate within me. At the time I only had teenagers and above and they were participating in the study so I didn't give much thought to the little ones.
Now I have eight grands and I want them to learn the same principles that we did all those years ago. I want them to know that they were created for a purpose. Their existence was never a mistake but rather a God ordained blessing bestowed upon their parents (and their grandparents!).
When The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids arrived at my home I was thrilled to be able to share it with my kids and grands. The book is broken down into 365 daily devotions that cover the same six purposes in the original book. The language is designed for nine to twelve year-olds but we are finding that the younger kids are doing well with listening in.
I have to tell you about one other thing that caught my eye. The very last chapter is entitled Why So Many Translations? Of course I had to flip back there and read it. Pastor Rick gave three reasons to answer that question but it is the second one that really stood out to me:
"Second, and even more important, is the fact that we often miss the full impact or meaning of familiar Bible verses, not because of poor translating, but simply because they become so familiar! We think we know the message of a verse because we have read or heard it so many times. Then we find it quoted in a book, we skim over it, and miss the full meaning." (pg. 382)
Isn't that the truth! In my personal studies I like to look things up in different translations so I was pleased to see this same technique employed in this book.
As I said before The Purpose Driven Life made such an impact on my life. If you are looking for a way to impart these same principles into your children's lives I highly recommend this book. Not only will you be teaching your children how important they are in God's eyes but you will be reminding yourself of that truth as well.

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren is one of those incredible, life changing books for so many so I was thrilled to find The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids!
As I've mentioned many times, we do daily devotions with our children. Traditionally this has consisted of Bible stories but as they grow older, we're starting to weave in more devotional types that dig deeper into the Bible and what it means and not just tell it's stories.
This is broken up into 365 daily devotions to do in a year. I loved reading the introduction to my kids the first night and discussing with them the meaning of purpose and asking deep questions like if they've thought about the purpose of life. Losing my Dad this summer the kids have had their first close up experience with death and it has brought out a lot of questions, for them and for me. I think the timing of doing this book is perfect and hopefully they will come away having a lot of their questions answered.
I knew from Day 1 that this was going to be a good one. It starts with a Bible verse, then questions and discussion and ends with a prayer. The first day asked "Do you ever wonder: What do I want to be when I grow up? What should I do with my life? What are my dreams?" This was so fun to discuss with my kids and hear about their hopes and dreams. I can see how putting these things in their mind will develop into deeper discussions about the purpose of life.
What I really liked and connected with in addition to the close-knit family discussions it brought out was that these same questions can be asked of adults. I found myself asking some of these questions, thinking about the answers and analyzing how perspective changes from when you are a child. Sometimes you need to hear things from the point of a view of a child to remember your own hopes and dreams and how far you have come and what has changed.
The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids is a really special one. I cherish the family time with my kids and this has made it even more endearing to my heart. I look forward to the ensuing growth in my kids and family in the coming year as a result.

God created each of his children with a purpose in mind the time is now to, thoughtfully and prayerfully, start the incredible journey to finding that reason."
My Review: Becoming who God meant for you to be is suppose to be the goal of every Christian man or woman on this huge planet, why should it be any different for our children? They too, should strive to be all that they can be on God's standards. The Purpose Driven Life Devotional for Kids, is a devotional that is filled with one devotion per each day of the year. It is part of a larger series to engage your child into seeking what God has put into place for that particular child.
It is very awe inspiring and encouraging. Just like Rick Warren's other books in the series this is a great way to start on that path. We all want to know what our purpose is and this author has many books that will help lead us in the right direction.

This daily 365 day devotional for children is directed at ages 8-12, but I honestly would even recommend it for adults who like simplified reading. Sometimes reading Bibles can be overwhelming. The overall neatness of this book draws you in. From cover to cover, it is a beautiful book. You find yourself wanting to read more than one passage at at time. As the author, Pastor Rick Warren states on the Intro page, the book is more than just a book, it's a guide book to help each individual find their own purpose in life, and plan through prayer and God's word. By reading every day you can find your way and grow in your relationship with Christ.
I love the prayer section for each day. That means there are 365 different prayers included! Great way to wrap up your daily devotional and encourage more meaningful discussions. I am a fan of the Pastor Rick Warren's other work with The Purpose Driven Life, and so I was already expecting this book to be awesome as well. No surprise! No disappointment here!
This book would make a great addition to any home library and Bible collection. Definitely a bedside table book! This would make a great stocking stuffer or Christmas gift too!

THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE DEVOTIONAL FOR KIDS is a great devotional. It opens with a verse or passage, goes into thoughts and a short devotional about the passage, then concludes with a prayer. There are 365 devotions in this, but they are not dated, just numbered, so if you miss a day, you can just start where you left off. I used this with my teens and tweens and they all love it, and give it five stars. HIghly recommended.
This book included 365 devotions that can help kids understand the bible more. I liked that the book includes six purposes for kids to easy go through. I also liked that this book helps kids find out what's there purpose in life. The different prayers in this book are also great for kids to learn. I highly recommend this gem of a book! I received this free in exchange I give my honest opinions about this book.
I read this book to a preteen group. With this book in hand, I learned it was not only about just reading, but allowing the Holly Spirit to guide me as I was teaching the classes. It is a good book for kids as everything that is to be manage for kids. With the help and guidance of a responsable adult to answer any question loose and/or left in the loose.
