It’s the 27th century and Victor Zellmann awakes to find himself drafted into an army of the dead travelling beyond Einstein’s barrier … his past lost and future uncertain he clings onto the present and the young lady who befriends him on reanimation.
Interesting premise but I would’ve liked more speculative focus on the process, repercussions, and social issues of the reanimation that is so central to the story basis. I found the romantic scenes bordering on silly, but that may have been partially due to the delivery by the narrator in this audio edition of the book. Even sci-fi greats often had difficulty with those. The author did manage to sketch enough of a world that I would like to read how he further develops it in his sequels.
A love letter to bad 90's sci-fi. I felt like I flipped on a UHF channel to catch a sci-fi show an episode or two in. The science is bad, but uses enough of the language to sound impressive; many items seem to contradict each other but they help the story move so we go with it.
I was given a copy of the audio book by the author to provide an honest review.
Oliver Strong is a UK author who has self-published in varying genres such as science fiction, mystery and historical romance.
Earth is now in the 27th century and the human race has advanced itself significantly. Space travel is now a reality and aliens are very real.
Victor Zellerman has died and was reanimated and conscripted into an undead army which travels beyond Einstein’s barrier in an effort to fend off the alien threat.
Now Victor must navigate this new undead life and survive the marine training program he has been forced into. This is made a little easier when a female reanimated recruit and Victor strike up a friendship that turns into a little something more.
Together they help each other navigate the challenges they face day by day and progress through the marine training program in hopes they can help defend themselves and Earth against the alien threat.
“Necron: Beyond Einstein’s Barrier” is a short science fiction short story that deals with the futuristic concepts of space travel and reanimation of the dead – which honestly gives me the hee bee jee bees. The story line was inventive and unique with some strong characters. My only criticism is I would have preferred it to be a touch longer with certain story plots expanded upon. Overall, it was an enjoyable read with a good narrator.
Have you ever thought of dying only to be reanimated? Or to end up traveling the galaxies as a"zombie" soldier? Well, in this world, people do. In the 27th century, Victor Zellerman fingers himself asking these questions. His family will receive money from the Necron Industries. So after asking questions and finding how everything goes, he agrees. He is trained to become a soldier, taking care of his crew, his reanimated body, and keeping the galaxies safe. The feeling during training is sort of line Basic Training in our military. So, Victor agrees and now he is providing for his family and sacrificing his life to live a different one. He can die a second time and not come back. The sexual talks, scenes, and jokes were a bit awkward simply because these people are dead, but it made the story funnier. This is the first installment of 6 parts. Oliver Strong creates both a sci-fi comedy, but has underlying seriousness to it.
🤖 Necron Beyond Einstein's Barrier - I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and action books, and this one got em both and it's short, hence it piqued my interest. Happening in the year 2682, the story takes place in the distant outer space where there are wars between different planets.
🤖 Necron is a huge corporation which takes over alien spacecrafts and their technology to mass market it back on Earth, making it one of the largest company in the known Universe. The story follows the protagonist Victor Zellmann, whom, after his death becomes a soldier for the Necron industries ( yeah in the future they can bring back the dead ) due to his tax liabilities. It is then his journey surviving the 6 months training, getting ready for the battles, falling in love, and rising in position, makes the story going.
🤖 Even though it's a short AudioBook which is only 3 hours long, there are some negatives I noticed. Lack of details is the main issue I faced. Since it's a short AudioBook and the sudden change of scenes without any details made me confused on the context of the scenes. Conversations are more dominant than the context details, making it hard to follow the scenes after dialogues.
🤖 If you're a fan of action and sci-fi do go for it, since it is short, you can finish it in a single stretch. If you're not into this genre, it might not be your cup of tea.
🤖 My Rating - 3/5

I have not read any Sci-fi in a long time but this was wonderful! You follow the main character Victor as he decides to leave everything behind and dies to be revived on the S.S. charon. Many are chosen but few will survive, threw the vigorous training to be on top. Its funny as it is serious and I enjoyed it! I can't wait to read the second one and this was a 5⭐ for me:)!
This is an interesting world created by the author. An universal soldier redux kind of thing. The time is the 27th century and as a race we have advanced to the level of space travel and reanimation with aliens a tangible threat. The reanimation tech developed by a company owned by a maverick futuristic billionaire who has been experimenting on the bodies with an eye for the larger fight. The book is episodic, so I expect a lot of the points will clear up in further episodes. I chatted with the author Oliver mid last year on Instagram and I checked out his books. From his repertoire this was the book that I felt suited to the type of books I read although he suggested that I try Zululand. The recommendation was not a book in my zone but this was. I forgot the conversation for most of the year and it was while I was reviewing my read and pending list of the year that this Necron series came to back on focus and I tried it out on Kindle Unlimited. I got this book and have read this first part. I will try another of my own volition and put up my feedback.
Once again Oliver has wrote a great book. When I first started to read this book I found it strange, in a way that I couldn't work out what was going to happen, it didn't have the typical thing of knowing as soon as what the ending was going to be, but the more I read and the more I got into the book, the more I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship between the two main characters (I won't go into detail, you'll have to read it for yourself), It's a book tho were I didn't want to put it down, I wanted to find out what was next?, what happened when they got back home? What happenes next with there relationship? I definitely would recommend and read again, I can't wait to read the others!
NECRON beyond Einstein’s barrier by Oliver Strong is a short but intense sci-fi read set in the 27th century, where aliens, space travel, and even life after death are part of everyday existence. Necron Industries offers people in need of money a grim deal; selling their bodies to the corporation after death. If reanimated, they are subjected to brutal military training, where even the smallest mistake can result in death and the harvesting of their organs..
The story is brutal right from the start, and I devoured it in a single go. There’s a small love story woven in it, it felt more like a bonus than a central theme. What stood out to me was the self-enhancing humor scattered throughout, which gave the dark tone a bit of an edge. However, I found myself wanting something more for the ending. For me the story certainly could have been longer, luckily there're more parts!
