The forward of this book was written by Jorden Rubin author of The Makers Diet. He says, “…living a healthy lifestyle is a journey. It’s not a quick fix…..(in this book there are) Practical, everyday steps to walk out a life style of divine health so that their bodies can be protected from sickness… (Beni) Looks at health in all three areas: body, soul, and spirit….”In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.”

The author’s wellness journey in her words (it was) “Full of experimenting, soul-searching, and pressing into God…it’s been a time of discovery. I’ve taken an inventory of my thoughts, mindsets, and belief systems and changed many of them so that I can live a full and healthy life in my body, soul, and spirit.” Beni started this journey in 2004 she says, “A good question to first ask yourself, “Why do you want to get healthy? Why do you want to be strong? Why do you want to lose weight?” She says, “I think it’s important to know why you are doing what you are doing.”…remembering your “why” has given me the strength to push forward on my journey. It’s much easier to say no to a milkshake, or burger with a large side of fries and a donut, because I know that they won’t help me stay true to my “why.”

I agree with the author and have found this to be true in my life. This year I embarked on my own journey into wellness. I’ve jumped off the treadmill of my fast paced life and stopped to figure out why I’ve had so much pain in eating. I stopped taking stomach pills (to stop the pain) I’ve taken most of my life. I recently found out that these pills; taken over time make bones brittle. Yikes!

I’m still in the process of trying to figure out what cause’s me pain when I eat. Like the author said it’s easier to stick to an eating plan because I know my mission: which is to heal the lining of my stomach. (My why!)

I liked that this author talked about things I haven’t heard about before in other health books. Beni starts with finding your “why” then talks about changing your mind, and pressing into the Lord for help. Then about giving yourself and others grace on the journey. Living a healthy life style is not a religion, it’s a way of life. It’s one to be enjoyed not be in bondage to. I like how she talks about this.

The next section is on Soul Health, it was interesting and made me think about things I hadn’t thought about before like loving yourself, giving yourself permission – to like yourself. She says, “Ask yourself 1. Do I like myself? 2. Do I love myself? 3. If your answer is no, then it is time ask God for help.” She says, “Your entire being is dependent on you to love your mind, body and spirit. You are worth being loved! Allow yourself to turn those negative thoughts into beautiful words.”

Wow, with the media feeding us one line, the world another it’s hard to not compare yourself and come up short!

Some of the information in this book took me by surprise. I knew some of the health issues but I never took the time to relate it to me and my journey to wellness in my mind, body and soul.

This is a huge missing link to the health puzzle for me. What I tell myself and what I believe about my body has a huge impact on my health. This is a small book filled with important information to take your wellness journey to the next level. I highly recommend this book for everyone beginning a wellness journey and for those who have been at it for a while. These is so much to glean and be encouraged by.

Loved this book. Especially how honest the author was about her own health and journey. We all need to take care of ourselves more because God gave us one life and we shouldn't waste it.
She shows you a step by step plan on how to not only get your soul in check but your health. I could totally relate to this book because of my own health and family history. God is good and we need to listen to what he is telling us.
The mini chapters were also very easy to use, they are called Tools for Health:
Hydration
Sleep
Exercise
Eating Clean
Detoxing
Supplements
I would recommend this book to those who are ready to make a difference in their lives. We all want to be around for our loved ones. This book is a great start to help you on your new journey.
Thank you and God Bless

Very basic, and had a couple mistakes. Not to mention a number of questionable recommendations. Interesting from the perspective of how to communicate the importance of health to certain Christian communities, and the connection of faith and health, but I imagine there are better resources for both. Would be helpful for Christians taking initial steps on a new health journey, but I would hope they are getting other medical and health input, looking to this book for inspiration and ideas to ask more about elsewhere.

Truly well done, comprehensive book that addresses our triune life. Beni does an amazing job of outlining with scripture each of the areas of our life to become wholly healthy: body, soul and spirit. She includes wonderful recipes, scriptures and practices to change your life into one that can fully embody the health and beauty our temples were created to be.

God bless you, Beni!

Tons of great life changing information

Beni writes on lots of ways that we can improve our health. Some you may know, others you just don’t practice that often or at all. Challenge yourself and make the right changes you need to. God will help through it all.

"Healthy & Free: A Journey to Wellness for Your Body, Soul, and Spirit" by author Beni Johnson is a 192 page book on wellness. Author Jordan Rubin (The Maker's Diet) wrote the forward for this beautifully covered book. It has eight chapters dedicated to physical and spiritual, and what the author calls soul health. In the back of the book readers will find recipes, questions and answers, along with a list of resources should they wish to delve more deeply.

Healthy and Free not only talks about physical wellbeing but also spiritual health and health for one's soul. The author uses many different bible translations throughout her book, but the Amplified Bible is the one most frequently used. Author Johnson lists Tools for Health to help in the journey for wellness. She clearly lists them in an easy to read, step by step approach. These tools are: hydration, sleep, eating well (clean), exercising, detoxing, and taking supplements. Nothing new, but her honest, straight forward approach gives us a fresh view.

Author Beni had been diagnosed with being overweight and having hypertension in 2004. She asked herself why and determined that to be the key to her success in getting three areas in her life in line and healthy. In her opinion, the most important health is that of the soul along with a relationship with Jesus Christ. I agree with her on that. She also believes we should keep our bodies and spirit healthy.

A few new things I haven't read in health books that struck me from this author are: the author asks readers why they want to get healthy and strong. She doesn't just tell how to do it, but she wants readers to do some soul searching. She emphasizes drinking not just water but filtered water everyday, getting not just enough sleep but enough quality sleep, exercising on a routine basis - get in a habit, and eating “clean” food. The author touches on essential oils, peppermint in particular. The essential section I found fascinating. She mentions gland disorders, eating disorders, detoxing, sugar replacements, juicing, nutritional supplements, and fasting. There is a lot of information packed into this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the concepts and ideas in this book. The cover was great, too. It was so colorful and eye catching. The author had so many ideas it was hard to grasp them all. The writing style was easy to read and understand. The book was divided into easy to follow chapters. I liked that the author encourages readers to have a close relationship with God and that this is an all around health book. Most health books just deal with physical health. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It would make a great group study, wellness group book, church library book, book club read, and just for anyone wanting to improve their live. I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by the Book Club Network for my honest opinion.

This is a great book that helped to kick-start my new year. It is an amazing book packed with great information on how to live a Healthy & Free life. The subtitle says what a lot of the book is about, "a journey to wellness for your body, soul, and spirit" and that's what I found while reading this book. I was amazed at how Beni Johnson balanced research as well as her own journey to wellness. I found myself constantly underlining and writing in the book so that I wouldn't forget and could always go back to what I was thinking at the time.

It was a challenging book because it challenged me to want to change my lifestyle and get it back on track. As she states, it's a journey and this book is packed with simple steps that you can start making right now to have a healthy & free life as well as exploring why you want to healthy in the first place. I love how she ties it all into our journey with God because without His help and guidance we would be completely lost and this journey to health would be for nothing.

I encourage everyone to go out and buy this book whether you think you are in pretty good health or you know that you have a long ways to go. This is a great place to start!

It's that time of year when we start thinking about our health and make promises to eat healthier and exercise more. But the reality is most of us don't follow throug even though we promise ourselves we will. We get so busy with our lives, we forget to stop and smell the roses. I was one of those high energy people who was always on the go. I might have looked healthy, but I was far from being in good shape and really eating good healthy meals. I have decided that now is the time to take my health serious and have a healthy mind , body and spirit.

I loved the author's transparency as she takes us on her journey to a healthier life. It is not always easy but she shows us ways to achieve our goal with grace and wisdom. I appreciate her openness and insight into this subject. She is very encouraging and is very open to sharing her struggles along the way. The book is filled with helpful tools and information that will guide you on your journey to achieve your goal. I loved how she suggested speaking scriptures over ourselves to begin to be physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy. "He made your body , soul, and spirit- those three parts of your bring that are all connected - and when they are healthy and in harmony with each other , you will experience wellness." At the end of the book, the author has graciously included some healthy recipes to try and has a question and answer section at the end. Be encouraged as you take this journey , and know that Gid is right there with you cheering you on.

I received this book from The BookClub Network for an honest review.

Review Title: Beni's Path to Better (Review of Healthy and Free by Beni Johnson)
Reviewer: Janice S. Garey
**** 4 Stars

I found this book to be a well written guide to various ways to enhance wellness in all areas of life. The cover presents an array of beautiful fruits and other colorful scenes that one would find in a life well-lived. This book is about thriving rather than just surviving.

The book gives advice on tactics to achieving results using well known and lesser known ways and ingredients to get to a better place in health for body, soul. and spirit. I am currently considering doing a detox diet, and I appreciated that several approaches were mentioned so I have a basis for researching ideas I would not have known about otherwise.

Because the chemical makeup of each individual varies considerably, I would want to look at more than just this one book before I tried suggested approaches. I think this book is a primer for those who feel something is not quite right with the way they are feeling and they want to make improvement. Some people will have their eyes opened to what may be wrong that can be helped by Beni's approach. Others, because of the scope of what ails them, will not find this book to contain the depth needed to cover their more complex health problems.

I thank bookfun.org, the author, and the publisher for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review. I believe the majority of people who read this book will find something in it that will favorably advance their health.

Beni Johnson and Bill Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church. Together they serve a growing number of churches that have partnered for revival. Beni oversees Bethel’s intercessors and Prayer House. Her approach to intercession makes supernatural connection with the Lord accessible to all. Bill and Beni have 3 children and their spouses. They also have nine grandchildren.
About:
This is really a great book. If you don’t really like books about health (and I don’t) then you might actually like this book.
Beni begins with a very important question: Why? Why do you want to get healthy/loose weight?
I never thought about how important the why is. Honestly, I haven’t reach and answer for a good why and therefore have no motivation for loosing weight. I need a good why that speaks to me. Not someone else’s why and why they think I should.
I think until it truly becomes important to us we won’t sustain the changes we need to make.
Beni gives wonderful advice about changes we can make. She definitely doesn’t push for dieting but more for healthy living.
She covers so many topics this is bound to speak to everyone at some level.

Healthy and Free: A Journey to Wellness for Your Body, Soul, and Spirit This a good book to look at how good health is important not only for our body, but our soul and spirit. The author, Beni Johnson, shares her own tale about health and the journey she has taken. Johnson also reminds us that the body we have was given to us by God, so we should take care of it.

Through easy-to-follow steps the reader is able to see how to take control of their own health. The chapters, or Tools for Health, include: Hydration; sleep; exercise; eating clean; detoxing and supplements.

This book is an important book for everyone and I cannot recommend it any higher than I do.
