Sam expected a new phone for her birthday. Instead, she got an old leather diary that was supposed to be some kind of heirloom. So, she wrote something snarky in it about the really, really great gift and tossed it aside. What was even the point of all those blank pages and no keyboard? Later, she noticed someone else was writing in the diary every day. First, she thought it was her dad, who gave her the awesome gift in the first place. He was playing a trick on her and pretending to be some girl from a hundred years ago. Like she was going to believe that? Then one night she happened to see words forming across the page one letter at a time and the next thing she knew she was standing on top of her bed like rug sharks were circling below and she so had to text Hailey if she could just stop biting her fingers.

A teen story. Well written, unexpected twists and turns. Interesting conclusion. Even as an adult, I enjoyed the book. I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway, I thank the author for sharing the book with me. I wish I hadn't waited so long in reading it.
Had not read this author before, but was pleasantly surprised. Likable characters, a smooth plot, and well written. Only bad thing was that it ended too soon. Recommended.
Moral of the story: Get vaccinated Just kidding🤣 this book is awesome. This was my second time reading it and I was on the edge of my seat through all of it even though I knew exactly what was going to happen
This book is obviously meant for younger readers and centers around two teenage best friends. One is focused on makeup and one is disappointed in her birthday gift of a diary. The adventure that diary takes them on through the writing of a relative from the past.
In compliance with FTC guidelines, I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
This is great read for the YA audience (and those who enjoy a quick YA read). I really liked the history entwined within the plot (which was captivating). I couldn't put it down. Clean and well-written.
4.5 stars. I thought this was a pretty neat story. I won the book through Goodreads Giveaways, and based on my previous experiences with GR wins, I set my expectations kind of low. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with this one. Clever ending, too.
