International Bestselling and Multi-Award-Winning Author of Sam Jardine Crime Conspiracy Thrillers Series. Author Christopher Hepworth has been a professional negotiator for over thirty years, with some of the largest and best-known companies in the world. He has won numerous prestigious awards in his chosen profession of procurement and developed many of the strategies and techniques that are now widely used across the industry. He has spent half a lifetime working for an array of colourful captains of industry, some inspirational; others downright terrifying. He often wonders how these desk warriors would cope if they were confronted with real-life, world threatening global emergencies rather than plotting their own narrow-minded corporate agendas. With the magic of fiction, Christopher Hepworth has created a wonderful set of characters he hopes will put the fear of God into his readers, adding to the list of threats already facing humanity.
Born in the UK in 1961 and raised in Zambia in central Africa like his hero, Wilbur Smith, Christopher Hepworth now lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife, Anne and four children. Much of the spare time he finds for writing comes while watching his children play representative cricket. It's amazing how many sentences can be written in between the fall of wickets.
The exotic characters in his books reflect his fascination with the charismatic and proud, but often maligned warrior nations around the world, whose stories are screaming to be told. In his books, Christopher Hepworth's desk-bound corporate warriors come face to face with those proud peoples, who have suffered the misfortunes of fate and history but their dignity and aspirations remain intact.
Christopher Hepworth has created a new brand of hero for the twenty-first century. Like James Bond, or the lawyers of John Grisham's thrillers, Sam Jardine must use his occupational skills to thwart the ambitions of ruthless villains who seek to subordinate the world with their depraved sense of moral values. Armed only with a sense of justice, respect for ancient warrior cultures and an extraordinary talent for negotiation, can he win the day or will he be engulfed in the cesspit of corporate politics? For the sake of world peace, let's hope Sam Jardine is up to the task.
The Sleepwalker Legacy by Christopher Hepworth is a financial thriller that will keep you up at night wondering just exactly what the government is truly up to in the pharmaceutical world.
British Scientist, George Napier saw first-hand the use of the drug Berserker and the violently deadly outcomes when used during the war of 1814. The drug’s deadly after affects destroys the life of his Native American lover and drives him to eradicate Berserker and its “cure.” The Berserker drug causes those who consume it to become fanatically dangerous.
"She was still unable to explain what had possessed her to track down a murderous band of Taliban terrorists single-handedly for three days after they had captured her platoon’s Afghan interpreter. Reineker had ambushed and destroyed the war band while they rested for water… She took out four of the Taliban soldiers … picked off the other three … She shot her final victim from a distance of over four hundred yards … "
Two hundred years later, his descendant Sam Jardine who is a top notch negotiator finds himself drawn into the Sleepwalker Legacy and the fight his ancestors began to defeat the sale of the drug to the military. Knowing that if this drug were released widely into the military or finds its way into the hands of terrorists, it would only be a matter of time before the end of mankind arrived.
The female characters: Nova, the Warrior Princess, Tiva her daughter, Cassie and Rachael all exhibit extremely strong female traits of high intelligence and personalities. Sam, at first comes across as a victim caught in a web but over time he becomes a vividly strong personality and worthy of the battle he is going to face.
Highly believable and well-researched, this book will capture your attention to the point you cannot put the book down! Richly described, you can feel the emotions emanating from each character whether it is fear, rage or blind hate. The characters are fully developed and weaved throughout the story to where you find each and every one integral to the storyline.
The plot is well executed and mind blowing. Some of the twists are so unexpected that you will find your mouth hanging open in shock. This is a great book and one not to be missed!
Sam Jardine isn’t your common or garden-variety hero. As a corporate negotiator, he doesn’t have Bond’s suaveness, nor does he have the fists of Jason Bourne—he certainly comes off second best in physical combat. What he does have is an uncanny talent for negotiating his way out of trouble, cutting incredible deals in the nick of time. Sam also has an endearing, self-effacing wit that wins the hearts of women and his allies, but infuriates enemies. Sam’s mind is definitely his sexiest asset (although he’s handsome too). In Sleepwalker Legacy, we accompany Sam as he is swept up in saga of international intrigue and heart-stopping adventures that stem back to events over two hundred years earlier. The excitement starts in the opening chapter, when Sam flees for his life from a deadly negotiation in Beijing, and is rescued by heiress Rachel Beckett, who “just happens to be passing” at the right time in her limo. Escaping China by the skin of his teeth, he is indebted to this beautiful woman. And so it begins… Sleepwalker Legacy delves into the bloodthirsty Anglo-American war of 1812, and the harrowing WWII battlefields of Germany in 1944. In both these wars, the use of a disturbing drug called Berserker wins battles, but takes the victors’ souls and ruins the lives of their ancestors. Christopher Hepsworth brings other colourful characters into his story along the way, including a giant, ex-SAS Scotsman named Mungo, Sam’s endearing but troubled great-uncle Roy, and the sweet but tormented Cassie. I recommend Sleepwalker Legacy to anyone who loves corporate thrillers, with a touch of romance and some intriguing history about the tragic fate of Native American Indians. You won’t be able to put it down!
The heart of this book contains an unusual premise, which has allowed the author to create a well thought out fast paced thriller, with credible characters. Twists and turns in the story kept me turning pages quickly to satisfy my need to know what happened next. I think that this book is this author’s first novel, if so I will keep my eye out for his future books.
A battle in the present that had it's roots in the past. Will the promise made a few hundred years ago be kept by the descendants? Will Sam be able to untangle the web spun by intrigues ...
I like thrillers that take place in the medical world so this one was certainly bull's eye. It shows that people are not as important as winning and earning money. Although I don't like to read about any kind of war, but it was needed to explain why certain things were happening. I was intrigued by the love story that started amongst all the cruelty.
The book is full of twists and turns and you don't know who to believe any more. Every time a little part is revealed, it's leaves you with your mouth open.
Fascinating book because of the imbedded Indian Story. Spans the world and time. The main character, Sam, is an amazing business negotiator. The James Bond of business negotiators is the best way to describe this character. Action packed. Twists. A complex story you will never forget.

5 out of 5*
This engaging and enthralling globe-trotting thriller takes its reader from China to England, Scotland to the United States. It is set between the early 19th and 21st centuries, and revolves around the lead character of Sam Jardine and his predecessors.
The writer has taken much of the true events of the Sand Creek Massacre in November 1864, (http://www.legendsofamerica.com/na-sa...) with a few elements altered to fit the storyline, and woven a modern thriller with historic depth around them.
It deals with moral, cultural, and political issues, conspiracies and government subterfuge, and the often cut throat world of pharmaceutical industry giants, all sprinkled liberally with personal and romantic elements. Mental health issues and treatments are an important element of the story, but it neither glorifies nor glosses over what are often ignored or stigmatised conditions and illnesses. Rather it looks at how “weaknesses” can be abused by unscrupulous people in positions of power to further their own ends.
It also looks at actions and consequences, big and small, unintended and deliberate. Danger is never far from Sam and those he comes into contact with. The characters are written clearly yet in such a way as to keep the reader guessing about who are the “good” and “bad” guys. The details of the illnesses, drugs and treatments are complex and full yet simple and well described by the author Christopher Hepworth so those of us with limited previous knowledge in this area (that would be me!) can keep up yet learn at the same time.
Overall, I rate this book as Excellent and highly deserving of a 5* rating! Mr Hepworth has taken two areas which were unfamiliar to me (history of the Indian Wars and pharmaceutical big business) and made me curious to find out more about both. He has written a tale which engages and intrigues, twists and turns in the way of a truly well written thriller. It is romantic and personal yet global and impersonal at the same time. It deals with issues and threats that can affect us all. I look forward to more of Christopher Hepworth’s books.
The Sleepwalker Legacy is the first book in the Sam Jardine thriller series by author Christopher Hepworth. Sam Jardine is a negotiator for a computer company, but when he finds that negotiations have gone awry he is on the run in Beijing attempting to get out of the country. As luck would have it, he is picked up by Rachael Beckett, the well-connected granddaughter of a pharmaceutical company. Before he knows it, Sam becomes the newest employee of Napier & Beckett pharmaceuticals.
Coincidence?
The more time Sam spends at the Napier & Beckett research facility, the more he learns of a dangerous drug called Berserker that renders the user in a state of aggression and blood lust that, if not countered quickly will result in a lifelong ailment called “The Sleepwalker Legacy”. To make matters worse, the US Government is set to weaponize berserker for a tactical advantage against the enemies of the United States. With the trials of the antidote suspended, the possible repercussions of this action could set modern civilization back centuries as soldiers who have used Berserker return home with what can only be described as an extremely violent form of PTSD. At the urging of his girlfriend and hereditary Sleepwalker Legacy victim, Sam vows to do whatever he can to keep Berserker from ever seeing the light of day.
The backstory and history behind The Sleepwalker Legacy and the advent of the Berserker drug spans 200 years and several continents. From a medicolegal/phychological standpoint, “The Sleepwalker Legacy” is an intriguing read. Hepworth crafts an intricate tale of war, love, greed, corruption and redemption that will leave the reader thinking. The Napier & Becket research facility itself is a very interesting place. With top floors reserved for offices and the “public face”, the lower levels house various study wards reminiscent of standard mental asylums with human guinea pigs for the various pharmaceutical trials. Sam’s ability with Cassie’s help to get down into these levels and interact with the test subjects added a very interesting element and kept me guessing as to Sam’s true role in the story. At times, particularly with Sam’s interactions with the patients in the research facility I couldn’t help wondering if Sam wasn’t also inflicted with a mental illness and we were watching the fruits of his delusion. This was particularly vivid for me with his interactions over company instant messenger with certain patients of the Ward and the faceless “Jacques”.
While “The Sleepwalker Legacy” is a complete standalone novel, this is also the first in a series of books to feature Sam Jardine. It will be interesting to see how much of the issues that plagued Sam during The Sleepwalker Legacy carries forward into the future novels. While Sam is touted as a brilliant negotiator, it feels that we have only scratched the surface with Sam as a person and what makes him tick. It will be interesting to see what other adventures are in his future.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written historical fiction tech book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great tech movie, or better yet a paid-per-view. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

The Sleepwalker Legacy #1 - Wow! My kind of book. The plot never stops twisting nor does it slow down. This is a well written suspense full of intrigue and excitement. The characters are my type: developed, devious, moral, honor bound or not, with a sense of humor. Of course, these traits aren't in each character, but some are shared amongst most. This author fills the shoes of Ludlum just fine and I look forward to reading more of his work. I got this book from some website. I contacted the author to review his other books.
The Wulff Agenda #2 - Takes place two years after The Sleepwalker Legacy ended. Another well written, fast paced book filled with intrigue, suspense and action. Of course, the same type of character traits as in TSL: all well developed, good and bad. The plot never stops bringing new turns, multiple storylines and a gamut of emotions. Some interesting technology: it's the big bad Social Media in the wrong hands coming to get us. The story takes place in the Ukraine and the author shares a lot of the past history of Russia, Ukraine and the people.
The Last Oracle #3 - Oh my goodness! This is the best of the three books so far. Well written, fast paced action and a fully loaded plot. The suspense, intrigue and multiple storylines keep the reader flipping the pages. There's always something going on either in Egypt or Greenland or lil ole The Woodlands (near Houston, TX). And add Syria and the UK to the mix.
The Last Oracle has a few of our old characters mixed heavily with the new; running the gamut on traits and emotions. The reader experiences a gamut of emotions, too! There's fracking and a solar-powered car on the technology side teamed up with an Egyptian goddess. Bring your own drink and settle in for the ride.
Sam Jardines’s high level of inter-corporation negotiation skills can make him a rich man, or the perfect pawn in multiple conspiracies. The storyline twists and turns and draws the reader into the often-dark manoeuvres of huge, competing, pharmaceutical companies. Billions of dollars are at stake. It is near impossible to separate the lies told by the characters from anything resembling truth or transparency, and that goes for Sam as well. Part of the ongoing corporate warfare involves the use of drugs, slipped into food or drink. And if you encounter a drug known as “Berserker”, pray it never gets loose into the general population. (and no, there aren’t any zombies…) The only downside, for me, was that it felt like a couple of the pieces of the overall puzzle were missing, yet, at the end, I could only conclude that was a very good read, and I have purchased books Two and Three in the series.
How did I miss this dynamite story about big pharma, corporate intrigue, military trials and American history. Sam Jardine is a hero you can't help but like. He's a brilliant but highly principled negotiator who drives a hard bargain and usually gets what he wants, but when the beautiful Rachael Beckett helps him escape from a trumped up criminal investigation in China and convinces him to come to work for her family business, he stumbles into a world and a piece of his own family's past he had no idea existed. This story is full of cut-throat negotiations, high powered executives, violence and even a little romance. It will keep you guessing, prove to you that you can never quite be sure of people's intentions or allegiances and have you cheering for the good guys through one narrow scrape after another. One of the best techno-thrillers since Tom Clancy.
This book grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go. There is a lot of action, the characters are well-developed but with some you don’t know if they are going to take the moral high ground or go for the greed. Why is scary yo me is there are probably similar or even worse drugs that the pharmaceutical companies are working on or have already bypassed all the regulations and are testing on people that have no idea what they have been given. I am proud of Sam with his Native American background for over 200 years that they have been trying to get rid of Berkserker that leads to the Sleepwlker legacy. It you love medical and financial books, this is the one for you.
I saw a review on Goodreads complaining because epilepsy had been classified as mental health. It's physical brain, not "behavioural" brain. The book probably loses a point for poor research on that (family).
It's probably a 4 but I also had issues with the genres. US warmongering. Corporate profits over good behaviour. Reading about US politics in the age of Trump (not based then, reality time). behaviour.
A tense yarn that ricochets around the globe from boardroom to battlefield, there is no let-up. There were some moments of not quite convincingly being saved-by-the-bell, but it was good entertainment and certainly not an author I’d hesitate to pick up more of. This an exceptional financial/medical thriller. I loved it. There are other plot synopses out there that tell you more about the specifics of the books, but the one thing I will add, is sometimes you aren't quite sure who is the bad and who is the good in a Hepworth thriller. I LOVE it!
Fantastic series. If you like thrillers, you shouldn't miss the Sam Jardine series.
An exciting read with non stop action, a story that begins over 200 years ago and continues through history to today. It quickly drew me in and the many twists and turns kept me intrigued. It was very hard to put it down and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys history and thrillers.
This was a quick moving book that kept my interest so much so that I just couldn't put it down! The story just captures you and makes you want to do nothing but keep going! The characters and story were well developed and believable and all this book left me wanting was more by this author! Thriller describes it perfectly!
This is the first book I've read by Christopher Hepworth and I'm sure it won't be the last. It reminded me of Michael Crichton's work. Sam Jardine is a great character, witty and resourceful. I loved the Native American history parts, they were really well written and felt true and well researched. The plot was involving and thrilling.
I loved it! A thriller for sure!! Could this happen? I believe it could. Would we ever know if it does? Or if it already has? This story is well thought out and well written. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Between the language (which was mild, but still more than I like) and placing epilepsy in a list of mental disorders (it is a neurological disorder, not mental), I quit after the fifth chapter. It has a good storyline though and did keep my interest up until that point.
An exciting and original storyline. Dark and intriguing. Well written with believable characters. Throughly enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book
The Sleepwalker Legacy starts with a negotiation in Beijing that quickly leads to the main character, Sam Jardine fleeing from the scene after he learns that there is an arrest warrant for spying hanging over his head. He is assisted in his escape by the beautiful granddaughter of the CEO of pharmaceutical giant Napier & Beckett. However she extracts a heavy price for her help and so begins one of the most intriguing relationships between a female boss and her employee that I have read for some time. Rachael Beckett will push Sam’s morals and values to the limit as she demands his complete loyalty in her family feud for control of the company. But is she worthy of his loyalty and will she do the right thing in dealing with the deadly drug Berserker that threatens humanity? It is evident that the author, Christopher Hepworth has done his research on the pharmaceutical company. The ethics of the industry are explored in great detail and the moral dilemmas of the ‘greater good’ had me pondering what side I would be on faced with similar choices. I particularly enjoyed the rich characters in this book. I loved the ex-SAS character Mungo. His Scottish accent had me sounding like a true Glaswegian when I read his lines out aloud. I never worked out Rachael’s motives until the very end of the book and the capable but tragic Cassie was a wonderful character that had me wondering about the purpose and meaning of life. The book was fast paced and absorbing to read. The twists and turns were never ending and Christopher Hepworth is the ultimate craftsman at bringing his evil antagonists to a sticky end. This book is both thrilling and charming and I would not hesitate in recommending it to a friend.
