Why you need this Most introductory anesthesia books are too long and too complex. Where do you begin learning about anesthesia when the basic books are over 800 pages long and weigh four pounds? Even when you do read these books, how will you translate the information into something you can use in the operating room when you are first starting out? Welcome to Anesthesia Made Easy. I wrote this book to introduce you to anesthesiology. It is part education guide (to teach you the basics of anesthesia) and part survival guide (to teach you how to apply these basics while in the operating room). It includes the basics of anesthesia without getting too far into the weeds and also gives you a practical approach that will get you started moving in the right direction. New anesthesiology students struggle with which book to read and where to start. This book will give you not only a solid foundation upon which to start your career but also organize the information in such a way that you can actually use it. At under 200 pages, it is the one basic anesthesia book that you can reasonable read cover to cover quickly. Looking for more information about anesthesiology? Praise for Anesthesia Made Easy “A concise review of the basic fundamentals of anesthesiology. Written in outline form, this book provides the essentials for anyone interested in anesthesiology. I would highly recommend for medical students, beginning anesthesia residents, AAs and CRNAs.” Eugene Chung, D.O. - CA-1 Resident “Providing an introductory approach on a topic as broad and in depth as anesthesia is nearly impossible, and therefore many novices find themselves up to their elbows in thousand page textbooks not knowing where to start. Dr Steiner has successfully compiled a basic guide that provides a starting point for providers just beginning their journey into the world of anesthesia." Ryan A Sexton, RN, MSN, CRNA - Practicing CRNA "A great book for medical students and residents looking to get the most out of their anesthesia rotation! It provides useful information on airways, common anesthetic medications, and basic anesthesia theory. It also gives a small glimpse into the OR from the unique perspective of the anesthesiologist.” Amy P. Woods, M.D. - Faculty Anesthesiologist
I definitely recommend it to ANY healthcare professional interested in anesthesiology or doing a rotation in this space! I feel like rating nonfiction is weird when it's informational/literal facts, but great execution of the information!! It's written very simply and easy to digest, with bullet points and tables, too. It does have a few typos/misspellings, so I rate it a 4/5. It aligned with what I was learning and solidified my pharmacology information despite being an older book.
Will definitely be rereading this and keeping it on hand for a quick reference. Not comprehensive by any means, but it covers the basics and has been helpful as a starting point.
I read this book before my interview for AA school and I think it is a must read. I’ve have many shadowing/clinical hours but sometimes the person you are shadowing have trouble explaining what they are doing on a level you can understand. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get into the field of anesthesia. It would help to read it before/after shadowing or before you start school. It’s a quick and easy enough read. It might be a little rudimentary for someone who is about to start clinicals but definitely wouldn’t hurt
I really enjoyed this book, I felt like I really hit the important points about anesthesia in a clear and concise manner. Although I have not yet started my program, this book has me feeling both nervous and excited to start really delving deep into the field of anesthesia. Will definitely be giving it another year in a year when I start my clinical rotations. Wish I had read this book before my interview. It truly has a lot of important information.
I love the details in this book. I haven’t started my rotation yet so some of this stuff is sort of abstract at the moment, but once I get started, this book is an obvious resource to turn to. It has very thorough and specific instructions. Very interesting read for anyone curious about anesthesiology.
Good high-yield introduction to the field. Reading this helped me get a grasp of what was going on for a 2-week Anesthesia rotation during my 3rd year. It's basically a "how to not look like an idiot on the rotation" book but won't carry you through as a sole source of information for those longer rotations or if you want to go into the field.
This book is an excellent choice for anyone that is interested in getting to know more about having a career in anesthesia and what that entails in Leyman's terms. Very easy read that made me feel adequately prepared for my grad school interviews in terms of appearing informed about the program(s) I'm signing up for
Makes Anaesthesia interesting for beginners. Seamless transition from novice to expert. Important career advice given which is very useful to the newcomers
Great introduction to anesthesia! I skimmed briefly before starting my CAA program and just read back through before starting clinical rotations. This is a great overview to read before shadowing or beginning training.
Danke, Jeff! Ich finde, dass dieses Buch ein guter Einstieg in der Anästhesie ist. Kurz und knapp, was man am Anfang braucht. Von hier aus kann der Leser/die Leserin sein/ihr Wissen weiter ausbauen. Viel Erfolg!
