This second chance at love story Some Girls Don’t by Amy Andrews was a bit of a disappointment after the first book in this series, I enjoyed reading it but there was too much focus on the past and not near enough focus on the here and now or the future.

Selena Durrum has returned to Jumbuck Springs 15 years after she left basically in the dark of night without a word to the man she loved with all her heart. Back in town to deliver a speech at the request of her grandmother, Selena knows she’ll have to face Jarrod she just doesn’t realize how much he will affect her and how hard it will be to stay away.

These are relatively mature adults in their 30’s yet they insisted on rehashing their past over and over and I’ll admit that made it difficult for me to really understand why they wanted to be together when they couldn’t move past…well, the past. While I don’t necessarily agree with the way Selena left town I do understand why and in reality her reason for leaving the way she did was an out because she didn’t want to have to face Jarrod. I believed that Jarrod had a hard time finding love again, but honestly I think it was more to do with not having that closure he needed. Jarrod is a passionate, handsome and friendly guy, but Selena’s actions left him a bit broken and unable to move on fully.

Selena came off as a bit of a flake; she claimed she left the way she did so it was easier for Jarrod but in reality she did it because it was easier for her and because she had dreams she wanted to fulfill, something I support but she was cowardly in the way she did it. Jarrod was an easy character to like most of the time although some of his words and actions were harsh at times (again over something that happened when these two were teenagers). I had a hard time liking Selena, I understand her ambition and her drive, but she was so unwilling to even work with Jarrod on a solution for them to be together.

Their chemistry was undeniable and when they were “in the moment” it was easy to see their feelings for each other had never completely gone away, but these scenes were too few and the scenes where they went round and round on past events were far too many. There were some excellent scenes with the secondary cast of this series which makes me hopeful for the books to come.

This is one of those books that I just didn’t feel like the romance blossomed at all; these two had feelings in the past, acted on the attraction that was still between them, but in all honesty they didn’t spend enough time getting to know one another as the adults they are now. It all seemed very superficial with the exception of a few key moments. While Some Girls Don’t was a miss for me, I am looking forward to what comes next in this series.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Selena and Jarrod for the most part and their story was good. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it well enough that I"d consider trying more of her work in the future.

Selena is a TV journalist that is working on getting the anchor spot. Selena grew up in a small town and loved her high school boyfriend (Jarrod) very much but she was torn...torn between wanting to achieve her career goals (to be a TV anchor) or stay home and get love but no professional fulfillment. Selena's mother didn't get a chance at a career and Selena didn't want to fall in that same trap so she took off..leaving Jarrod behind.

Jarrod is a fireman for his home town. He is close with his family and helps raise his niece. Jarrod never quite got over Selena taking off on him...he's tried to move on but without much luck.

Selena goes back to her home town to speak at a town function and runs into Jarrod. They hadn't seen each other in 15 years (since she took off at the age of 17) but the attraction is still there, stronger than ever. Of course Jarrod isn't exactly happy to see Selena and their reunion is a bit on the rough side. They don't intend to have a true reunion but have trouble keeping their hands off each other and their feelings from reconnecting. Selena does go back to her job but ends up seeing Jarrod again soon after for other reasons. They do realize that they want a relationship but they have a lot of trouble figuring out how to work things out considering their circumstances. And it doesn't help that feelings of resentment from their previous problems creep in to cause friction. Thankfully, an effort is made and a reunion is had so Selena and Jarrod end the story starting a HEA together.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Selena for the most part but she did make a few stupid moves that bothered me a bit. She did redeem herself in the end though. Jarrod seemed like a good guy but I wasn't too thrilled that he put all their issues on Selena's shoulders. He made mistakes as well and seemed to ignore that and wouldn't make an effort to salvage things so my opinion of him took a bit of a downturn at that. The story was actually pretty good and I may have given it 4 stars if not for my disappointment with Jarrod and Selena (mostly Jarrod).

Selena is a well known newscaster on a television channel and she is next in line to become the Anchor, her ambition and ultimate goal! She returns to her small home town fifteen years later as a guest speaker for a community gathering and to spend time with her grandmother (Grandy) at the same time.

Jarrod is a firefighter and was Selena's first love before she left town without so much as saying a goodbye or giving an explanation. The first person Selena sets eyes on when she arrives at Grandy's is Jarrod. She soon finds out that the old feelings are still there but decides to set them aside. As for Jarrod, he has tried to move on with his life but has never been really happy with Selena always on his mind. Seeing her again sparks off a myriad of feelings, anger and desire being at the forefront.

Selena agrees with Grandy that she has unfinished business with Jarrod but their first real encounter ends on unpleasant note. Their subsequent encounters are a little awkward but the attraction they once had for each other hasn't wavered and they end up with hot make out sessions with feelings! Then they each go their own way. Back to normal?!

A month later, a raging fire engulfs the outbacks and Selena is there for the television coverage. This part of the story makes everything more real. It shows the community spirit and how some would risk their lives to save others. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes, leaving the whole community on a real emotional rollercoaster. Selena realises that she needs to be there for Jarrod and they confess their love for each other but just then, she is offered a her dream job. She makes a decision without consulting Jarrod. She leaves Jarrod once again for her career. I found her behaviour and attitude towards Jarrod to be selfish and thoughtless. He is kind, understanding and considerate.

Her initial reasons for leaving in the first place are understable. She was a confused seventeen year old. Her saving grace is when she realises that she has been wrong all along. Is it too late though? Will Jarrod readily forget all the hurt and pick up where they left off?

This is a well written and easy to read romance about having a second chance in life. It's full of mixed feelings as well as true love. I like Jarrod and both of his brothers. Marcus is the most lovable character and I would like to know what life has in store for him after suffering that terrible trauma.

I would recommend this novel to romance lovers who like to go on an emotional ride.

​​​​​I was in the mood for an impassioned reunion story and "Some Girls Don't" by Amy Andrews fit the bill perfectly. This novella packs a lot of heat and punch into less than 100 pages. The two main characters, rural firefighter Jarrod Weston, and regional TV news reporter Selena Durrum, were madly in love during high school. However, their love was not enough to keep Selena from leaving town and pursuing her dream of being a journalist. At the time, she needed to make a clean break, because she could never say good-bye to Jarrod. As heartbroken as Jarrod was, he moved on with his life and career, however, Selena was always on his mind. Now a famous Selena is back in town for a speaking engagement, with the added benefit of visiting her beloved Grandmother, and running into Jarrod.

Although Jarrod and Selena are now in their early thirties, their love for each other has never dissipated. They spend some time together while Selena's in town, and have one night of amazing, emotional sex. Their conversations are still somewhat awkward, but they work through it and rekindle the love that they once shared. However, Selena's broadcasting dream has finally come to fruition, which takes her away from Jarrod for a second time. Luckily, Selena is able say good-bye. A month later a fatal and dangerous fire brings them together once again, and Selena finally realizes what Jarrod has known his entire life, their love is what matters most.

Some authors are able to create tangible passion and Ms. Andrews is one of them. I instantly connected with both Jarrod and Selena, and felt their attraction the moment their eyes met for the first time in fifteen years. They are a hot couple, both in and out of the bedroom. Their story is replete with longing, forgiveness, and love. The secondary characters are interesting as well, and their lives add a real richness to the plot. I enjoyed this passionate and well-written novella.

Bestselling author Amy Andrews's Outback Heat contemporary romance series more than lives up to its title with this second release, Some Girls Don't. This was a second chance love story fifteen years in the making and there was certainly nothing easy about what lead characters Jarrod Weston and Selena Durrum had to overcome in order to finally get their happily-ever-after. Selena has always been ambitious and she didn't allow anything, not even the love of a guy like Jarrod nor the fact that had he asked her, she would have stayed in Jumbuck Springs. Of course, that's why she left without telling him, therefore leaving Jarrod with both a broken heart and a sense of betrayal that lasted a decade and a half. There's nothing wrong with ambition, but there is something terrible about going about it in a cowardly and deceitful way.

I liked Jarrod and the fact that he wasn't the same guy he once was when he and Selena were together. He's harder and less inclined to put his feelings on display, but his love for his siblings and his niece are clear as well as his dedication to his job as a firefighter. On the other hand, I had somewhat of a love-hate thing going with Selena, but I will say that she won me over at the very end with what she said and did. These two were sizzling together (yes, I'm going with heat-related adjectives in this review) and I always have a greater appreciation for a couple's love story when they come to realizations and make sacrifices for each other because no one likes a romance that only benefits one or the other. My heart broke for Jarrod's brother Marcus and I can't wait for him to find happiness in book three. Some Girls Don't gets five stars. ♥

Some Girls Don't picks up with baby sister Lacey back in Jumbuck Springs with her protective big brothers - Ethan, Marcus, and Jarrod. Book 2 is Jarrod's story. Back in high school Jarrod and his girlfriend Serena were involved. They just weren't high school sweethearts but next door neighbors as well. But she did a runner on him right as they graduated and Serena never came back to Jumbuck Springs to visit her grandmother after that.

Serena is now a TV reporter in Brisbane and sent back to the outback to cover the bush fires that are ongoing and happening close to Jumbuck Springs. Jarrod is now a rural firefighter and involved in fighting and putting out the bush fires. Jarrod thinks he has nothing to worry about because after all he has moved on Serena. But has he? Has Serena moved on from Jarrod? We all know that neither have moved on despite how much they claim otherwise. Where would the story be and the fun if they have moved on?

Watching both Jarrod and Serena figure out they neither of them have moved on and that they were meant to be together is a wonderful escape as the days in the Northern hemisphere turn colder. The Outback summer is starting to heat up from these two.

Fifteen years later, raging bushfires bring her back to her home town, and to the man she left behind: Jarrod Weston. Jarrod was Selena’s first love, he has never forgotten her; he still loves her. Jarrod is a firefighter, and it was inevitable that they met again.

SOME GIRLS DON’T is an astonishingly well written book! Ms. Andrews conveys the terror of Australian bushfires, how difficult it is on the firefighters and the population. Selena and Jarrod are fantastically multi-layered characters, the situations are totally realistic; everything in SOME GIRLS DON’T feels absolutely authentic. The sex scenes are passionate, very erotic, and very beautiful. The road to Selena and Jarrod’s happy ever after is fraught with ambushes, as one of them finds it very difficult to compromise. I also love that SOME GIRLS DON’T is unapologetically Australian. The relationship between the Weston brothers also feels very real. I found the story of Marcus Weston very compelling, and I was ecstatic to see that he is the hero of the next instalment in this series!

An awesome read all around. Great writing and the characters are fantastic. I loved the interaction all the characters have with each other. Lots of banter and feeling of family along with great chemistry between Jarrod and Selena.

Fifteen years ago Selena Drummond left Jumbuck Springs without a word. Back then Jarrod Weston was a young man in love. Now Selena's back and Jarrod's not that young guy anymore but there is definitely unfinished business between them and they are determined to get each other out of their systems, or not.....

Definitely a good read that I highly recommend.

The characters of the Weston's along with Selena just cracked me up reading this book :D Childish, petulant and hilarious all throughout :D The chemistry between Selena and Jarrod was just flaming off the charts. The Weston brothers add their own further hilarity and good natured jibes in the story. There are even a couple of heart wrenching teary moments. All made for a wonderful read. I'm so looking forward to Marcus's and Ethan's story further in the series :D

Some Girls Don't is the second in Amy Andrews' Outback Heat series, and while it works in well with the other books in the series, it stands alone nicely too.
This book took a little while to grow on me but the more I read, the more it picked up steam. There were a few things that didn't resonate right away. Firstly, there was the mismatch between the cover and the description of the lead characters. Selena is supposed to be ash blond and Jarrod is supposed to be a fair-skinned redhead.
Secondly, I'm not particularly keen on either Selena or Jarrod as names and that could be what biased me at the beginning. Couple that with Selena's focus on becoming the Channel Four anchor, which made her seem rather shallow to me and there was a bit of work to be done to get me into my reading happy place. I'm pleased to say that I did get there, and have enjoyed this book.
There were so many things about Some Girls Don't that resonated for me. There was the bushfire and it's impact on communities, families, people's feelings, hopes and dreams, and the somewhat heartless way the media intrudes at times in order to get a story or a better angle than the journalist next door.
Then there was the aftermath, and the way that events in the fire affected Marcus' mental health, and no, I'm not telling you what they are - you'll have to read the book for yourself. All this hit home as my husband works in the emergency services and has had similar experiences, and because I too live in the Australian bush and face the constant threat of fire.
Despite all the angst associated with bushfires, that is really only a backdrop to the story of Jarrod and Serena. I liked the way Amy Andrews developed their characters, and I liked how the story grew, and ultimately I liked this book. I hope you will too.

Selena was back in Jumbuck Springs. Back in the hometown she ran away from fifteen years ago to chase a dream. She and Jarrod had been so in love and so young. She had a dream and in order to grab that dream she had left his in the dark of night without a word. Now years later, she’s back in town and it’s long past time to make up for the past between them. Jarrod never thought to lay eyes on Selena again. He’d believed that he had moved on, but knew deep down that he’d forever be haunted by the love that had left him behind for a dream she could not share. They may have come together for a short time, but reality still steps in as Selena returns to her job once more.

Some Girls Don’t is an intense story of love never truly lost but set aside for a time. While the love between Selena and Jarrod works its way through time, trials and mistakes – it is not the only story within Some Girls Don’t. The bushfires that plague the Outback also will touch your emotions throughout this story as they are in a way a unique character as well. The bravery of the men and women who fight the fires and the families who are affected by the devastation of the fires is a riveting part of this story – and central to the plot.

I enjoyed this story and would recommend it highly for any romance reader. The love story is satisfying and so very realistic. The story of an act of nature puts such a human touch onto this story as lives are changed in an instant as a fire moves direction. You will be turning pages quickly right up to the final word.

This is the second book in the Outback Heat series by this author. This story has the youngest of the Weston brothers, Jarrod. He's a fireman in Jumbuck Springs, the town he grew up in. As a teenager he fell in love with the girl next door, Selena, but she ran away to become a familiar face on the television news reports and hasn't been back home for fifteen years. Now she's returning to give a speech at the town's celebrations, she'll only be there for three days - will their love still be as hot as the outback bushfires or will time have quenched it completely?

This is a hot second chance romance where the bushfire's intense heat is rivalled by the passion between these two, long separated lovers. However, Selena ran before, putting her possible career before their love - will she do the same again? Can they work out a way to give their love a chance or is it all fifteen years too late?

The dramatic portrayal of the impact of bushfires on rural communities, the bravery of all the emergency services involved in protecting lives and property and the close knit relationships are fundamental to this story. The turmoil, ceaseless dedication of the hot firefighters and sometimes insensitivity of the media in their desire for 'the story' all have their role to play in this entertaining romance. Highly recommended to anyone who likes their romance being given a second chance but with plenty of action, angst and turmoil before there's any chance of achieving a HEA.

Some Girls Don't (Outback Heat Book 2) is the follow up to Some Girls Do. I really like this series by Amy Andrews. This is truly a prime example of the saying - You never get over your first love. It has taken fifteen years for Jarrod and Selena to finally be ready to handle the love that they had in high school. Yes, it ended very poorly on Selena’s part. However, they are much more able to handle it now as adults.

The Weston siblings continue to provide the comic relief needed in the story. It is through their interactions with Jarrod that a fuller and richer picture of him is developed. Selena was a harder read for me in the beginning. However, as the story progressed I began to see that there was more to her than just an ambitious TV news journalist.

Some Girls Don't has some hot romance going on but it is also about second and third chances for lasting love, forgiveness, and finally seeing what is truly important in this life. Lessons of life here in the Australian town of Jumbuck Springs.

Selena has come home for three days at her Grandy's request, she will speak at the school and then head out, well that was the plan until she walked through the gate at grandys and saw her high school love and knew that was not going to work. Jarrod was surprised when he turned around and saw Selena walk into her grandys yard, a face he was hoping to see 15 years walk through that gate but now he's not really sure this is what he had in mind. When a fire breaks out now he has other things to worry about but will they have a chance to really fix the past or is the past really best left in the past.
There is a lot of HOT HOT steamy chemistry and sex in the book. The language is really strong but over all the story is well written and does have some twist and turns and keeps you wanting to turn the pages to see whats happening next. The book was a quick read, so if you are looking for hot and steamy thats a short and quick read this book is for you.

Fifteen years ago, Selena Durrum left Jumbuck Springs without saying a word to her boyfriend Jarrod Weston. All those years Jarrod wondered what happened to make Selena run without saying goodbye.

Selena's career as a news reporter made her a celebrity in her town. She has returned to Jumbuck Springs as a guest speaker at a dinner. But she also has unfinished business with Jarrod that she needs to tend to before she leaves again.

Four weeks later, a massive bushfire breaks out and Selena returns to cover the story. Her biggest concern is that Jarrod is safe while fighting the fires. Afterwards, Selena ends up spending more time with Jarrod when he confesses he still loves her. Will Jarrod’s love be enough to hold on to Selena when she is offered her dream job as an anchor at the news desk?

This story was a roller coaster ride of emotions. Although you know they will end up together, it was still a good story with all that Selena and Jarrod go through to be together. True love really can be reunited.

I love Amy Andrews. I really do. I love her heroes she creates. (and heroines too...but you and I know it's all about the man-candy. *cheeky grin* ) I love Jarrod, the big, strong, sexy, firefighter, solid, buff, honorable, family-comes-first kind of guy. Can you imagine this big handsome man so in love with you he waits for your return? Well Selina has that (I am so jealous of a character in a book). She left him and the town 15 years ago. She was so in love with him, she was afraid she would get lost in him and not pursue her dream of being a TV journalist (or journo, as they say in the Outback). She came back 15 years later. Their reaction to each other is STILL explosive. (Gah, Ms. Andrews does so well with the steamy parts!)
This is a second-chance-at-love trope. Even though it's short (only about 133 pages) it packs a HUGE amount. She grabbed me from go. It was smartly done, well written, and steam was pouring off the pages.
All the secondary characters are just as lovable too. I can't wait to read more of the series. Thank you Amy Andrews! You Rock!

The only thing wrong was that it ended. But luckily there is a book 3 in this series.

The first book in this series was more on the light, funny side of romances, this one is far more serious and deals with choices, the making of them, the sticking to them, the consequences of them and the making of new ones, all in the skope of 133 pages. Was it too short, maybe, because I wanted to know how they manage with their newly made choices, but an epilogue would have done the trick. It was very good reading and I loved both characters. My compliments to miss Andrews for really making the most of those 133 pages. I guess one of the plus points of shorter books in the hands of a good writer and a good plot is that there is no room for dialogue or narrative that isn't absolutely necesary for the story. The result is great, and I have faith in their HEA.

And the scene where she runs to him... Sooo romantic!!!

Thanks miss Andrews. It might be to soon to say i'm a fan (after two books), but it may be just a matter of time. On to the next book.

This is a wonderful contemporary romance that I just loved. This is the second stand alone novel in the Outback Heat series and features Selena and Jarrod. They were high school sweethearts until Selena snuck away one night to go to the big city and follow her dream of a career in broadcast journalism. Jarrod is left behind without even a goodbye, let alone an explanation.

Years later, Selena returns home to give a speech and tries desperately to avoid Jarrod and deny the attraction that keeps pulling her to him. While what follows is a somewhat predictable story, the author's talent in telling it kept me engaged. She is a wonderful storyteller and adds a richness to the fabric of a story that makes you feel the story. When I was younger, I worked in EMS for a number of years and can say that she absolutely nailed the realism of the emotions, reactions, and perception of the press.

I recommend this book to all fans of the genre.

In this second installment of the Steamy Outback Heat series we get to fall in love with Jarrod Weston. The sexy fireman brother who fell in love 15 years ago and hasn't fallen back out.

Selena left home 15 years ago and hasn't been back since. When she gets ask to make a speech for the town she is hesitant to come home knowing that she might have to face her still strong feelings for enigmatic firefighter.

Love is easy to come to these two long lost love birds but sometimes its hard to remember reality. Selena has to decide if her job is worth throwing away the best thing that has ever happened to her even if it is 15 years later.

This is definitely a must read and a great example to how talented this author really is.

Sometimes in life you lose track of what is important in a drive for our dreams and lose the most important thing, while our faithfully supporters in life are trying to protecting us, make the loss worse, as they are encouraging us to pursue our dreams.

The story of Jarrod and Selena is exactly this scenario, as Selena is chasing her dreams when they are almost grabbed away and the little faith she has in Jarrod to support her when they are younger. Sometimes we are to young to be mature. They receive a 2nd chance 15 years later, will they create the same mistakes or move forward.

The tragedy and complexity of what they witness only skims the surface of some of the heartache that people can go through. Amy Andrews did an excellent job in Jarrod and Selena story.

He's a caring and passionate man who became a fire fighter because he wanted to help people. Selena was determined and strong willed. It took me some time to warm up to her. I enjoyed this passionate romance. I wanted these two to get the HEA that they deserved. The small town setting was perfect and the people who lived there added drama to the story. I enjoyed Some Girls Don't.

After reading Some Girls Do I was in love with the Weston boys and couldn't wait for their turn. Getting a copy of Some Girls Don't was awesome.

Jarrod has been living in town all of his life. His two brothers, they have gone and come back as had his sister. He's been happy being there except there has always been something missing. Selena.

Selena left as soon as she could. She had her reasons but 15 years later seeing Jarrod again, some of those reasons just do not feel like they matter as much any more. She's been successful and is close to getting what she wants, but what if it's not what she wants anymore?

It was a good read and I consumed it in one sitting. Can't wait for more.

This is the second book it the Outback Heat Series, it is the youngest Weston brother Jarrod's story. Jarrod is a fireman but not all the heat in this book is caused by the bushfires, and the smoke from the fires is not the only reason your eyes are watering.
To me the best books are the ones that have me reaching for the tissues, and this one does that.
Selena and Jarrods's characters are real well written, we get to fell their feelings and know what makes them tick.
Both books of the Outback Heat Series just make me want to read more from Amy Andrews, hope book three is almost here.

You can feel the tension, the passion and the sadness on every page. A very satisfying read and one that will keep you guessing.

Jarrod and Selena have many things in common. They both are dedicated to their careers. Selena is a reporter on the verge of making it big. Jarrod is a firefighter that thrives on the excitement. Have unsettled issues with how their past relationship worked out and are still as combustible years later. Some Girl's Don' t by Amy Andrews is a flammable read about facing the past and taking steps to build a stronger future. Pride before ego does not a relationship make. The good, the bad and the naughty all collide to make an awesome story that is short and entertaining.

This book is short but packs allot of punch and it is just what i expect to get from such an amazing author as Amy Andrews, I Have loved her books for years now and nothing has changed i am still a huge fan.

This book as well as the story had just the right amount of angst, heat and LOL moments which too me always makes the book even better for me as humour lightens things up.

The only little nit pick I would have for book is it ends abruptly.

As always I Love this Author and no I will read more and more her books it is how invested I am.

I enjoyed this second book in the Outback Heat series. Selena fell in love with Jarrod when she was a teenager and 15 years later when they meet again, she still feels that pull of attraction towards him. Things did not end well between them because of Selena and her goals in life. Will this second time around be any different or is their love destined to go up in flames?

Some Girls Don't by Amy Andrews is a nice romance story but with a lot of surprises a long the way. It's part of a series but can very easily be read as a stand-alone. It's packing a lot of heat in more than one way. It's well written and it was a good read.

Start with book 1 to fully appreciate all the secondary characters in this book. The Weston siblings have great stories. Selena and Jarod have a rocky history. Some Girls Don't captures their love story. I can't wait for the rest of this series.
