Dire Straits - A half-dead daemon, a massacre at her based PI firm and evidence that suggests she's the main suspect for both ... Bo Blackman is having a very bad week.

She might be naive and inexperienced but she's determined to get to the bottom of the crimes, even if it means involving herself with one of London's most powerful vampire Families and their enigmatic leader.

Dog with a Bone - Half-bloods with Thierry’s skill set are given two options. They can join the conclave’s marshal program, or they can pack their bags. Turn down the job offer, and you’ve just booked yourself a one-way ticket to Faerie.

Texas is the only home Thierry has ever known, and she’s not going anywhere. Even if it means following in her notorious father’s footsteps as a peacekeeper. But pinning on the badge opens her eyes to the fact sometimes fae need protection too, and that sometimes humans are the real monsters.

A Demon Bound - Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hell. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It’s a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won’t hesitate to execute her on sight.

But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance.

Influential Magic - Willow Rhoswen, part-time vampire hunter for the Void, is having a rough week. Four years after her twin brother’s mysterious death, Willow’s life is threatened and the director saddles her with a new partner—her ex-boyfriend turned vamp, David. But unsure of where David’s loyalties lie, Willow turns to Talisen, her childhood crush, for help. Caught between two gorgeous men and a director who’ll stop at nothing to control Willow’s gifts, she’ll have to follow her instincts and learn who to trust. Otherwise, she risks losing more than just her life.

Forbidden - Flint DeLuca and her dad have moved three times in the past year. But that's the life of a carnie. Even an ex-carnie like her. Her father swears this is the last move. All Flint wants now is to graduate from High School and put the carnival life behind her. Unfortunately, one of the two ain't gonna happen.

Cain. No last name. Wears shades in school. Dresses entirely in black. And only speaks to her when he's insulting her. And yet... there's something about the Goth boy that draws her like a moth to flame. God, she can't wait to graduate, only problem is she's pretty sure her high school’s infested by vampires. Cain might be one of them. And for some reason, she seems to be on their menu.

All For a Rose - A tale as old as time… An enchanted rose. A witch’s curse. A beast’s temper. A maiden who can see the potential for good even beneath the scales of a monster. It’s amazing what can transpire…All for a Rose.

The Keepers - Two days ago, Jo Davids was a waitress by night and a college kid by day, with the unnerving problem of objects floating around her.

Anthologies. What could be better? I have found some truly wonderful “New to Me” authors in anthologies, as well as exclusive stories by authors I love. Wicked Magic doesn’t disappoint my expectations.

Dire Straits by Helen Harper. I have had Bo Blackman on my “Read” list for quite a while, but haven’t had the opportunity to try yet. This story is the first in the Blackman series, and I loved it. We first meet Bo as she sits in a truly nasty neighborhood, waiting to serve papers on an errant halfbreed daemon. Well, needing to pee may have saved her this time. But who seems to want Bo locked away – and the world to change in cruel and terrifying ways. Helen jumps to my “Gonna Read for Sure” list. 5 of 5

Dog With A Bone. Hailey Edwards. Thierry’s story is a YA. The daughter of Death, literally, Thierry has a very specialized, and very dangerous, skill. One that means she is a Paranormal Marshall – or she leaves her home in Texas for the wilds of faerie. The story itself is quite good, though the whole “Eighteen-year-old girl finds love and hot nookie with a man decades her senior” thing sort of creeps me out. Enjoyed it, but I am not a YA lover, so won’t add the series to my lists. 3 of 5

A Demon Bound. Debra Dunbar. The first in the very popular Imp series. Samantha Martin is a slum lord. Well, an Imp as well. So, the whole ‘slum lord’ thing really sort of works, right? I was surprised at how much I liked Samantha. Quirky, mischievous, and generally likable, even if she is a minor demon. Besides, anyone who loves hellhounds and horses can’t be all bad, right? 4 of 5

Influential Magic. Deanna Chase. IM is the first in a series subtitled Crescent City Fae. This new series stars Willow Rhoswen, owner of The Fated Cupcake and part-time vampire hunter for the Void. Oh, and she is also a faery – complete with wings and flight capabilities. Well, when she isn’t around vampires, whose walking death drains her earth magic, and thus her life force. A very uncomfortable position to be in when your evil faery auntie, who is also the Director of the Void policing agency partners you with a vampire in order to investigate dastardly deeds by the local vampire corporation. Especially when that vampire happens to be your ‘used-to-be-human’ boyfriend. A boyfriend, who suddenly dumped you with a quick text message (jerk!), then turns up later turned – literally. I read and reviewed previously, and own the whole series. Any series that includes a Shi Tzu who turns into a wolf is worth a read! 4 of 5

Forbidden. Selene Charles. In my absolutely firm intention to not read books I don’t want to (Book Reader FlameOut is a depressing!) I didn’t read this one. If you like YA, give it a try. No rating.
All for a Rose. Jennifer Blackstream. Another I didn’t read. Violent naga, rich girl turned poor. It simply didn’t spark my interest, though that is no reflection on the book. It just didn’t strike my fancy. No rating.

The Keepers. Donna Augustine. Haven't read. May go back to it later. No particular reason, so don't hold it against the book! ;-)

Pleasantly surprised with this omnibus! First off, it's a collection of 7 FULL-LENGTH novels from various authors rather than short stories or excerpts. Second, I've found when I read collections or anthologies that I typically find only one or two authors worth reading and the rest are trash. While I would classify some of the authors in this collection as only average (I reviewed each story individually under their title, if interested in pursing), on the whole this collection was great; I've even marked some of the series follow-up books for my "To Read" list! Kudos to the editor for such an intriguing collection.

Dire Straits (Bo Blackman #1) by Helen Harper **2 Stars
Bo is a naïve young woman who is determined to become a private investigator. Despite her rich grandfather's connections she decides to start at the bottom and pay her dues. A routine assignment turns out to be an attempted murder that she is apparently being framed for. She eventually gives in to vampire Michael's request that she join his House to help investigate the recent unexplained deaths of humans and vampires. She bumbles through her investigation and almost accidentally figures out which direction to point the vampires in. This wasn't a bad idea for a story but I found myself completely bored. And I don't think the ending was enough of a payoff for the struggle of completing this one.

Dog with a Bone (Black Dog #1) by Hailey Edwards ***3 Stars (PR)
Thierry is the only one in her class to graduate and become a Marshall, who police fae crimes on earth. She is then partnered with her instructor/keeper/crush for her first few months on the job. A routine call turns into something much bigger and every time they think they get to the bottom of it things just get worse. Being half human Thierry has an affinity for the race that none of the other fae share. This makes things a little tense sometimes...As does her attraction to Shaw, an attraction that he returns. While trying to work out her feelings she also is still learning about her death powers she received from her absentee fae father. And when it seems that regular humans may behind the atrocities Thierry needs to rethink her ideas about good, evil and justice. I did read this out of order and I did like the second one more that this one. I felt that there wasn't enough information given in this one about anything, which led it to feel a bit incomplete.

Dead Rising (The Templar #1) by Debra Dunbar **3 Stars
Aria is a Templar, but when she came of age she decided to not take the Oath to become a Knight and instead moved to a crappy apartment in Baltimore. She is slightly disillusioned by the Templar's hands off stance on things and wants to make more of a difference in the world. She is asked by the local vampires to research a symbol for them.. Before she knows it she is stuck between the vampires and a necromancer and doesn't feel that either side is totally right or wrong. She has to use all of her minimal connections to stop more bloodshed and manage to not get fired from her job at the coffee house. Oh and don't forget about the super hot vampire Dario that makes her wonder how bad being a blood slave could really be. I was really enjoying this. I thought Aria was an interesting character and I liked the whole modern day Templar thing. I checked out slightly when after a battle, Aria decided it was a good idea to let an injured blood crazed vampire feed from her, because they probably wouldn't kill her... that scene stuck with me for the rest of the book and dropped my rating. I also didn't love how it just kinda stopped, I could have used a few more paragraphs of some closure. But, I did enjoy it and will probably continue reading.

Influential Magic (Crescent City Fae #1) by Deanna Chase *1 Star
Willow bakes with her fairy magic and has a very successful business. She is also an agent for a supernatural group that police supernatural stuff....or something like that, it wasn't very clear what the heck was going on. So her aunt is the corrupt leader, Willow shows some strange powers that everyone wants to exploit and she basically gets tugged in a million directions. And then there's her ex turned vampire, her brother's death/murder, and her brothers friend/her love interest. The story was not well organized and Willow was just awful. Her friends were a bunch of jerks but then again, so was she. She got mad at them for stupid stuff but when they lied and manipulated her and put her life in danger she was all like "oh well I guess they had no other choice". Grow a freaking backbone and stop letting people walk all over you, especially when you want to keep saying that you can take care of yourself. I stopped reading because I could not care less what happened to any of these characters and I wasn't really sure what the story was.

Forbidden (Tempted #1) by Selene Charles *1 DNF Star
The whole first chapter was Flint embarrassing herself in front of her new school because of an attractive boy. It's one thing to find someone attractive but to lose all brain function because of it just annoys me as a characteristic in my female lead.

All For A Rose (The Blood Realm #1) by Jennifer Blackstream **2 Stars
Maribel's family lost their money and moved to a farm. Maribel is the happiest she's ever been but her sister is miserable and her health seems to be declining. When given the opportunity to live with a cursed lord in her fathers place Maribel looks forward to getting away from the demands and unappreciative nature of her sister. She falls in love with Damon but has to figure out how to be happy when her new love and her sister hate one another. I think Corinne was a really bad person and really the only evidence we have to the contrary is her stating that she's not a bad person....usually directly after she has done something awful. As for Maribel you can love your sister and still understand that she can be a bad person. Her whole "no one is bad" attitude was really irritating. Damon was ok. But overall, just meh.

The Keepers (Alchemy #1) By Donna Augustine ***3 Stars
Jo was abandoned as a baby and bounced around the foster system because she had some weird abilities that tended to freak potential parents out. One night at work, she sees something that she shouldn't and finds herself right in the middle of some interstellar conflict. Now all of the weird stuff she can do makes a little more sense but she still has a ton of questions. Cormac was her boss at the casino and is also a gatekeeper of sorts deciding who can travel to Earth and when. He asks Jo for help because it seems that someone is trying to sabotage his operation, which could have so explosive (literally) consequences. Jo isn't really sure what's going on most of the time but she fakes it really well and just kinda rolls with the punches. Overall this was pretty good. Some of the alchemy stuff went a little over my head at times but I appreciated the originality. I thought Jo was really stubborn but she had a pretty good reason to be and I liked her sass. Cormac was a little girl crazy which I found odd considering his age. I thought it weird that Lacey went from thinking Cormac was creepy to being another of his harem. There is a lot that isn't explained but I liked this enough to see what the next book reveals.

Good read

Good reading. Liked the author's stories, style of writing and you could feel the characters romantic attraction towards each other as the story played out.

Six excellent stories

....and one pretty strange even for fantasy . If I hadn't seen authors name I would have assumed it was written as Men's Fiction as it didn't seem to be romance or actually erotic

I liked about half of the stories, typical for me for an anthology.
Dire Straits
It was an exciting mystery adventure set in London about an amateur private investigator. She runs afoul of vampires. There were lots of interesting characters. As is usual for me, when it was time for the book to end it seemed to me as if the author just picked one character at random as the culprit.
Punctuation was inconsistent, and there were a few minor missing or incorrect words. One factual error critical to the action was Big Ben chiming at 2 am. In actuality the bells do not ring at night.
Dog with a bone
I couldn't work up enough interest to read this one.
Dead rising
I enjoyed this story about vampires, necromancers, and a Templar knight. There was flirting, excitement, family drama, and mystery.
I did find the pace slow at times and skimmed a bit.
Punctuation was inconsistent, 'led' was spelled 'lead' twice, apostrophe s was used for a few plurals, 'assume' was in the wrong tense, 'my mom and dad' was capitalized, and 'setup' was used as a verb.
Influential Magic
This should have been called "secrets." There are so many that it's no wonder the reader and the characters have trouble keeping up. From page to page, alliances shift. You never know whether someone is a good guy or bad guy on any given day. The heroes stumble from one tense situation to another.
A fairy and a witch walk into a room of vampires and...
Interesting plot and characters but hard to keep up.
One error: chapter 30 "The board enforcement practically worked for him."
Forbidden
This was a paranormal romance. It was written in a high school mentality and the mythology was complex and uninteresting to me. The secret evil mastermind was who you expect it to be. Worst of all, at the climax the book just stops.
All for a rose
I could not get into this one
The Keepers
An interesting story about a woman who has always been different and is learning about her abilities. There's a bit of romance.
The author, uses at least, twice as many, commas as necessary. There are also a couple apostrophe s plural's and and a repeated word or two. Lbs is used for pounds in dialogue (this is supposed to be prose, not a health questionnaire), then is used for than, whom for who, and also punctuation is inconsistent and sometimes wrongly placed.

Wicked

An interesting and complex combination of tales sure to enthrall most fantasy lovers. Quick, standalone novels giving a taste of several authors' writing styles.

07-19-16 So far I've read Dire Straits. I liked it so much I decided to go ahead and read the rest of the series...now I'm moving on to the next story! Can't wait!
07-20-16 dog with a bone. Again one of those stories I couldn't put down. I also decided to get the rest of the series! I just wish there were more books in it. I loved this story!
07-26-16 dead rising. Man I especially loved this book! I love the supernatural aspect of it with the classic Templar! Bought this series too!
07-27-16 influential magic. I'm not sure what I think about this one...I was kind of annoyed the whole time of the lack of a strong main character. She seemed kind of whiney, and all her friends just got on my nerves to.
07-28-16 forbidden. I love this book. it definitely left me wanting more, so of course I had to get this series. I'm really digging the whole demon circus thing happening, really gives it that something extra.
08-01-16 all for a rose. I really loved this retelling of beauty and the beast. A very interesting take on the story!
08-03-16 the keepers. I enjoyed this book. Not what I expected at all, but in a good way. Definitely not your typical faerie type story or witch type story at all.
Overall I definitely recommend this book, you get to sample books you didn't even know about. I love stuff like this.

This is a great mix of stories

You know you have a good anthology when you break after the first book to go get the rest in that series. The first and last were my favourites and I did get their books. Anthologies are a great way to meet new authors and be introduced to their series. These stories are moistly fun with great characters. There are a few editing snafus but not many and certainly not enough to mar the storytelling. Overall, this is a good mix and well worth the time and cost.

Awesome!

Great choices of authors to put together. All are wonderful visionaries of their characters and creating very good works of writing! I will continue to follow these story lines as it is often hard to find good story tellers...especially all in one location! Very good book!

As a paranormal fanatic, I couldn't wait to buy this one on Amazon.

SEVEN FULL LENGTH NOVELS IN ONE? HELL YES!

All these stories were unique in their own way. It would take forever to sum up every single one but I would definitely recommend this to any paranormal lovers!!

5/5 "Wicked(ly) Magic(al)"!!

Probably one of the best set of books I've read and plan to read more of some of the Authors.

These are touted as witches,, demons and etc., but they are not the everyday witches, demons, vampires and fae. Some are romantic but most are well written, have a plot and keep you reading.

So read and enjoy!!!!

Wickedly Magical

You'd be hard to please if you didn't find something here to enjoy. There were a couple of egregious spelling errors, but beyond that, books were well written and edited. I found several new series to love.

Wicked Magic

The first two books are great! Well written and executed the third was good. After that as so often happens each consecutive book is a little bit worse than the first, and down the hill it goes. Unfortunately this collection is no different. But the first 3 were good.
