Alistair James, a wealthy British aristocrat, became a vampire the night of the Summer Solstice, June 21, 1845, after being attacked and left for dead in the alleyway behind his luxurious London apartment.
He was on his way home from a night at the opera with friends. He has no memory of the attack or his attacker. He only knows that he awoke at daybreak with puncture wounds in his neck and a fever that made his skin feel like it was on fire. He was very weak, but able to get himself inside his apartment with the help of his butler, Radcliffe.
At the stroke of the next midnight, he awakes with a thirst for blood and a tattoo of a gold cross over his heart. He doesn’t recall getting the tattoo, nor does he understand its meaning.
Alistair leaves London to travel the world, a restless soul looking for answers he may never find. There are times he curses his immortality and other times he revels in it.
During the day he sleeps in darkened hotel rooms and at night he hunts, preferring to sink his teeth into the throats of raven-haired women who remind him of his one true love, Cassandra, who was murdered in 1895 in his family's Italian villa. Alistair doesn't know why she was murdered or who took her life.
Alistair must feed to live, but he does not kill his victims. He drinks enough of their blood to sustain himself and not a drop more.
He travels the world, landing in Dallas on business, and becomes enamored of the lead violinist for the Dallas Philharmonic, a beautiful dark-haired young woman named Katherine Phillips. She not only reminds him physically of Cassandra, but spiritually, as well.
For the first time in over a century, Alistair finds himself being driven by love rather than hunger; though the memory of his first love haunts him still.

Does the Vampire get the girl?
Only way to know is to get the book. You won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't with the ending.
