9 years ago today, a terrorist attack was taking place in the office of Charlie Hebdo, killing a dozen of cartoonists, artists, journalists, economist…Only a handful of people survived, mostly because they had the chance to show up late enough to the office to arrive after the terrorists. It’s the case of Luz, an historical figure of the journal, who documented the months following this personal and national trauma. Catharsis is an amazing testimony about what happened but also an amazing piece of art by itself. The drawing could sometimes appears simple and yet it’s so powerful. It also allows to cover many topics, the shooting itself, the loss of loved ones, how to live freely and in peace after such an event, and how to learn how to live after it. Luz will do another book on a similar topic a few years after called Indélibiles which also is very touching.
