Harriet Hensley usually enjoys the legal work and other tasks that come with being an attorney for Bourbon Springs’ most important business, Old Garnet Distillery. But when Hannah Davenport asks her to help new with a project to help the distillery apply for National Historic Landmark status, Harriet isn’t excited, but not because she doesn’t think the work would be dull. It’s because of the guy with whom she’s going to have to work.
Goose Davenport, Hannah and Bo’s cousin, has been known for years as the local hothead, the crazy guy who seemed to hide behind his father’s badge—the late former Craig County Sheriff Fuzzy Davenport. And a few years earlier, Harriet, the local little-miss-perfect and former Miss BourbonDaze, had a taste of that wild side of the man—and found she liked it quite a bit. But despite their mutual attraction, fate denied them the chance to see what happened next, and they kept the fact of their encounter—and feelings—to themselves.
Working with Goose presents new professional, personal, and legal challenges, and feelings suppressed for years boil to the surface. He’s enchanted by the woman he never thought he’d attain, and she’s delighted to learn about Goose’s softer side—as well as his deep knowledge and love of Old Garnet which astounds her.
Yet within that knowledge is buried a hidden, deep vein of resentment in Goose that stretches back nearly a hundred years, far back into the history of the brand and family. This lingering bitterness threatens not only Harriet and Goose’s new love, but Old Garnet itself.
Cedar and Cinnamon is the fifth book in the Bourbon Springs Series, a nine-book series of smooth, sensual, sexy, slow-burn contemporary romances set amidst the lush and rolling Land of Bourbon and Bluegrass of central Kentucky.
Jennifer Bramseth is the author of the Bourbon Springs Series and Bourbonland Series of contemporary romances, and the Devil Springs Cozy Mysteries. She is a Kentucky native and lifelong resident who lives next to a horse farm and within minutes of several bourbon distilleries.
This is the 5th book in the Bourbon Springs series and though they can be read as stand alone books I think they are best consecutively.
Smart, popular and always happy Hannah is back in town for a friends wedding and a new new job. If only the man she thought was the one hadn't left her and ruined her future plans breaking her heart in the process. Hurt by love and at a happy wedding she runs into Goose the bad boy that she never spared a second glance. He shows her a genuine kindness when she needs it, a shared meal and before they know it a night of passion becomes so much more. Goose can't believe that Hannah the same girl hat turned him down a 100 times has now fulfilled his every fantasy everything he ever wanted, but things are never that simple. Sometimes you need to take a chance to find true love. Hot, steamy and so so sweet. I absolutely loved getting to know Hannah and Goose
My least favourite so far....I don't know...it kind of took a while to get me into this story....After the excitement of CiCi and Walker, Goose and Harriet were a little boring....I only started really enjoying it when they were stuck together in the snow storm...because I only really felt their real emotions at that point...
Another delightful read with all the regular characters intertwined... Just love the setting and is always a good storyline 😊. Looking forward to the next one...
For this addition to the Bourbon Springs series, Cedar and Cinnamon – the Cover Description pretty much tells you what to expect in this story. So I’m just going to tell you my emotional reaction to this story and let you combine the two in your mind.
Goose has been a pain in the butt troublemaker for years. And for the most part he has earned and enjoyed his reputation as the town bad boy. Yet what most folks see on the surface is all the further they’re ever going to go. Down deep Goose is a man who made mistakes and is trying to find his place within the distillery – and because of an old feud and some bitterness passed down through the generations, sometimes doing the right thing for himself and the company isn’t easy.
Harriet likes order and Goose is the last person she wants to be working closely with. They have a history – and maybe those feelings aren’t as solidly in the past as she would like to believe. With a closer relationship she begins to see parts of Goose that she never realized were there and she definitely likes what she’s discovering.
Not everything is going to go smoothly – not the project, the business nor the budding relationship. Mistakes will be made. And atonements will have to be offered as well. Can two people who obviously belong together get past what’s in their way and find true happiness together at last? Hmmm.. to know that you’ll have to read Cedar and Cinnamon for yourself.
I enjoyed this addition to the series very much. Everytime I think I can safely state that such and such is my favorite of the series – the next one comes along and takes its place, so no more declarations for me. :) I loved the story, the characters and I’m definitely looking forward to what comes at us next.
*I received an e-ARC of Cedar and Cinnamon from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
First off, I really enjoy Jennifer Bramseth's writing style and the world of Bourbon Springs, so this isn't my first review of this series. We start this story five years in the past with two characters, Goose and Harriet, who begin to build a relationship and friendship. Then skip to the present where we see these characters true struggle to their HEA. The fun thing to read is that these two characters struggle in a romantic and sweet way to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of two people who obviously belong together. Overall, I loved seeing these two characters interact, there was so much fun chemistry between them.
I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the story and especially Jennifer's writing style, which is very descriptive and pulls you right into the story, as do all of her stories. During most, if not all, of the story I could really "see" everything being described and felt like I was actually a supportive character in the book.
This is the fifth book in this series, but can be read as a standalone book. However, you will want to go back and read the first four as well, and continue to pre-order the rest in the series as they come out!
Overall, Cedar and Cinnamon was a fun read with good writing enhanced by an enjoyable story line, lovable characters and a very sweet happily ever after love story!
I received an ARC of this book, from NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.
Great story! I have not read any other books by this author but look forward to reading more of her work in the future!!!
This is a book of history, family, loss, passion, conflict, trust and communication. Generations of Davenports have made bourbon and moonshine but not all of the Davenports have been equally successful in the business and there are two sides to the story about why that may be so.
Goose Davenport is so much more than his reputation – he is loving, kind, thoughtful, romantic, giving and wonderful…if sometimes stubborn. Harriet Hensley is a by-the-book lawyer that sometimes loses out on what she might want and need because of her rigidity. She also seems to have rather bad taste in men and then seems to spend too much time with them before moving on. She is smart and strong and knows what she wants and came back to her hometown to get it if she can. Though Harriet and Goose are drawn to one another there never seems to be the perfect conflict-free time for them to get together. They are both wonderful characters that definitely deserve one another but to achieve their happily ever after there will be some rough patches and not just romantic steamy interludes.
Thank you to the author who bequeathed me a copy through NetGalley.
I am a big fan of this series and I think this story is one of my favorites. I really liked Harriet and Goose as a couple and as individuals.
The first 20% of the book takes place 5 years before when Goose and Harriet get together. Goose is a ladies man but he has always had a thing for Harriet. Harriet has had a boyfriend and never really took Goose seriously. While at a wedding they get to know each other and I really enjoyed seeing how it all started.
Then when they both wanted more life got in the way and so they never explored their attraction. Now its 5 years later and Goose works at the Distillery and Hannah has hired Harriet to work on getting the distillery a historical landmark status so her and Goose start getting together for work purposes.
I really enjoyed this story. Goose and Harriet have integrity and they never cheat on each other or with anyone else. They are both really fun and cute together and I really enjoyed this book. Even when they break up I really liked that Harriet had to work for it and Goose finally forgives her in a really sweet way.
I really enjoyed this book and it really reminded me about how sweet and romantic this series can be. I can't wait for the next one in the series.
Harriet and Goose don’t have an easy road finding their happiness. The challenges Harriet faces as an attorney in Bourbon Springs puts road blocks in the way which creates missed opportunities. When they get their second chance, will her career stop them before they even get to start? Goose has a chip on his shoulder about who owns the distillery, carrying the anger from his great-grandfather. As new opportunities happen at the distillery, will he allow an old grudge push him out again? Can Goose accept the challenges Harriet faces as an attorney? I loved getting to know Goose. Up until now he was the hot head and jerk, causing trouble but he finally finds his place at the distillery which also gives him another chance with Harriet. Harriet struggles to balance client confidentiality with her own feelings. Finally getting out of a bad relationship, she ends up back in Goose’s orbit which gives her another chance for a relationship with him. These two have a fun chemistry that grabs you and keeps you turning the page. I was given an ARC for an honest review.
This is book 5 in the marvelous Bourbon Springs series and the stories and relationships just get better and juicier! It is also evident that the author is very familiar and comfortable with the bourbon distilling history and business in Kentucky.
The opposing flavors of the Bourbon Flavor Wheel, cedar and cinnamon, give us the title and is an accurate description of the relationship between Goose Davenport and Harriet Hensley. They have known each other for a long time and five years earlier they shared a most wonderful night together in each other's arms but were prevented in going to the "next" level by restrictions of Harriet's job. Perhaps now is the time for Goose and Harriet to come together again on a personal level, but as opposites, their attraction is strong and the difficulties many.
I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading more of the series in the future.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say this is the little series that could. The Bourbon Springs saga is a great one that not many are getting the chance to experience. This is a series that should not be missed. I received an ARC of Cedar and Cinnamon in exchange for my honest opinion. This particular story is about not letting personal opinions overshadow first hand knowledge. Goose is trying to convince others that he is not the same person they used to know. That proves difficult when you live in a place where everyone knows your name and remembers your reputation. Harriet is not about to be caught up in the whirlwind that is Goose again. Been there, done that and have the marks to prove it. But what is that saying? "Never say Never." This is the best read of the series yet and it pains me that not many retailers are carrying this wonderful series. Jennifer Bramseth's characters are written with her whole heart from start to finish.
I thoroughly enjoyed Goose and Harriet's story...apart for five years, after an unforgettable night, it was fun to read how they finally came together. Both having experienced their share of unfulfilled love lives, having them overcome their past and previous relationships was a great way to cheer them on to be together. Especially seeing Goose overcome his past misdeeds and reputation is quite heartwarming especially because Harriet was his motivation to do so. Including the recipes at the end i'd the book was a really nice touch, since reading about them during the story was quite mouth watering.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The above review is my own opinion.
I started reading this series with the previous story and I have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I lived in Kentucky for 11 years and I love to think about the area as I am enjoying this story. Goose is a former bad boy who is trying to move away from his past and Harriett loves the order of things and they each know one another from the past. It helps you to totally enjoy these two giving each other a hard time. Wonderful read.
Again, thank you Jennifer. I was totally absorbed into the Bourbon Springs family. I wasn't sure that I was a big fan of Goose's based on previous books - but he won my heart in this one. I could picture Harriet in my mind clearly! The way they sparred and circled around each other was priceless. I loved when he brought her back to the distillery to "show her the new floor" - I had goose bumps. Thank you again for making me a part of this fun and caring family!
Another amazing addition to this wonderful series. You have the power to overcome the past in the present to have a love filled future. This book is filled with ethic choices that ruins present love, but by keeping to that which is important and admitting the need to accept we get another amazing love story of two who pushes past their past and present for a love filled future together.
I've been following this series from the beginning, but I think this book might be my favorite. Harriet and Goose have history and challenges to overcome to get to a happy ever after. Some Garnet surely helps.
I love books that are second chance love stories. The characters, Harriet and Goose, were very likeable. I loved the peek at the inside workings of a distillery. Though I haven't read the other books in this series, I now have added them to my TBR pile.
