Great idea, but poor execution... Maybe this was more appropriate in 1968, when it was first published, but given the fact that I was born two years later and therefore would have been part of the target audience, I very much doubt it. Children, if they are intelligent enough to be interested in the arts in the first place, absolutely hate being "talked down to", in my experience at least. I will never understand why so many adults fail to appreciate this, and have apparently forgotten what it felt like to be a child. I'll turn 46 this year, and I certainly haven't forgotten. The condescending way in which Picasso's work is presented in this book would have absolutely infuriated me as a child. My father's colleagues called me "The Little Professor" for good reason when I was 4 or 5 years old; I was intensely curious, and always ready to learn something new, but I was also arrogant enough to demand that adults treat me as an intellectual equal (or at least some reasonable facsimile thereof) when they were speaking with me...
