Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Holy Smutballs Batman!!

This is ANOTHER one for the "crack attack" shelf. As if I needed more crack-attack books, right?

This book is like being lost in a forest of cocks & balls. Every time I turned around I was getting smacked in the face with dicks and testicles. Mushroom stamps and teabagging for everyone!

Opening Moves has the most outlandish and ridiculous premise known to man. Rook (wealthy and bouncy bottom who's hung like a porn star), Knight (famous ex-druggie artist who never sleeps), and Bishop (big bad toppity toppy top) are a committed threesome. They decide they want a sex toy to play with for a year and go about looking for one.

This is where Jason comes in. Knight likes to take beginner's art classes all incognito-like so that he stays humble. Jason is the live nude model in one of those classes and Knight decides that Jason is the perfect plaything. But Jason says "I'm not gay" and he also says "I'm not good at sex and I have no sex drive".

The thing is that Jason's broke as a joke, so he begins to entertain the idea of signing the contract to be a well paid sex toy for a year. Bouncy, adorable Rook gets sexy with Jason in a one-on-one session and BAM! Jason signs the contract.

This story is one sex scene after another with the characters taking naps in between. Somehow, though...for some reason...I liked this story. It was shameless, porn-with-very-little-plot fun. It never tries to be anything else.

I know that I only gave it two stars but that doesn't mean I won't be reading more if Sean Michael decides to write another story about these men.

Chess and erotica are two totally different things, right? One is all about the strategy and the other is all about the doing. At first glance, mixing the two sounded pretty out there to me. But you know what? In the context of this foursome, each of the three members of the existing threesome struggling for a position in the face of a new member of their household, the analogy actually works.

Make no mistake, this book is pure erotica and cover-to-cover sex. But what kept me interested was watching the game behind the scenes, as each encounter contributed to the picture of the whole. Partly, it was about understanding the complex dynamics of a foursome. And the other part was the jostling for position as Jason, the most recent addition, came to stay with them.

Jason is in an awful situation, his job as personal trainer vanishing as big fitness studios undercut his prices. I didn’t like the way Bishop, Knight, and Rook pulled him into staying with them, and I am still not sure what will become of that. It is definitely a very risky opening gambit, and I look forward to finding out more about its long-term effects. This first book mainly explores Jason’s reactions and his initial encounters with all three men together and apart. He is totally overwhelmed with pleasure now, but I am sure he’ll switch on his brain at some point.

Rook is the sweetest of the three, and the one who convinces Jason to give the arrangement a try. Clearly, Rook has his reasons to vote for a fourth member’s personality, and I hope things work out for him.

Knight is the tortured artist, intense, ex-drug dependent, and in need of a stern hand now and then. Thank God Bishop is there to give him what he needs. Bishop is one of the toppiest tops ever, and I enjoyed how he pulled the strings while not exactly standing on the sidelines.

This first volume is promising in many respects. The mix of chess and erotica worked well for me, the characters came alive and, now that the opening moves have been made, I am looking forward to the next stage of this ‘game’. If you like hot men, love to see them interacting a lot, and think the chess analogy might intrigue you as much as it did me, you might enjoy this book as much as I did.

I do love Sean Michael books. They are a little iffy on what your going to get.
Either a great story, or Smutty fun porn. Either one hits the spot.
This is smutty fun porn. It was fun. Not much story...just enough to set up the porn scenes.
Enjoyable.

So, i decided to read this book because of is cover and I thought this menage might be interesting. I actually don't know how to play chess, but I like when it's used as metaphor or for mind games. This book wasn't quite what I expected or like anything else I've read, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The thing one must accept when reading this book is that there is not much of a story. It's pretty much all sex all the time. However, the four mcs in the novel are very interesting and vastly different in their personalities and needs. These different psychological mindsets are being explored through sex, the need to intamitely explore each other. The novel is definitively different, but I enjoyed it. ;)

Opening Moves is a good read if you can take it for what it is – straight erotica. There is very little plot here, and while that’s been an issue for me in the past, I’m getting over it. I’ve read so many books classified as erotica that had plots with so much potential and eventually fell flat that I’m OK with no plot anymore with this particular genre. I want to walk away from a read satisfied or thirsting for just a bit more, but I don’t want to be left wondering what the hell happened and why there are so many loose threads. Throw in a few bits of information about each character to make them distinguishable, and I’m good to go.

I think the idea behind the names – Rook, Bishop, and Knight – was inventive. Adorable even. The dynamics between each of the men, and eventually Jason, were very interesting. It’s clear that while they all love each other, this is Bishop’s show and they’ve all jumped on for the ride. I’m intrigued to find out what Jason’s part in all of this will be, and how hard it will be for him to accept it since he was so reluctant to embrace his attraction to men. While I do wish we’d learned more about how the men earned their money and just a bit more about what makes each of them tick, I was happy with what I got. This is the first in a series, so I’m hoping for more of that in future installments. Opening Moves was a hot read, and I’ll be going back for more!

Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.

Rook, Knight and Bishop have been together for years and while they love and enjoy one another, it still feels like something is missing. Searching for a fourth to add to their group, however, has proven difficult but Knight swears he’s found the perfect candidate…all they have to do now is convince him. Finding himself strapped for cash, Jason volunteers to work as a nude model for an art class while hoping he can still find a job that will keep him off of the streets. In all the scenarios he’s imagined, however, being propositioned to join an established triad for a year wasn’t one of them. The money offered would be a life saver but he isn’t gay…right?

I love Sean Michael and this series was the first poly relationship I’d ever read about so when it was re-released with extra content, I was super excited and couldn’t wait to get started to see what had changed. Each of the men in this book is so very different but you can clearly see how they fit together and give each other what they need. Bishop, Knight and Rook are all very comfortable in their skins, though Knight still struggles sometimes, and when Jason joins them you get to see their personalities really come through. Jason’s first forays into being with a guy were well done; you can see how he struggles to deal with everything new while continuing to deny he’s attracted to guys. This book is probably over 60% smut (which I was perfectly happy with) but that didn’t stop me from getting to know the characters well enough to feel that I understood them. I also loved the new content at the beginning; I think it was a stronger intro than the original work.

3.5 Stars – 5 Flames

Non-stop bunny humping would be the best way to describe what I just read. Holy Mother of AHHHHHH!!!!

Since this story is short and sexy, I’ll keep my review to a minimum. I mean, what can I really write about other than the multiple sex scenes with multiple partners. Did you see my 5 flames???

DO NOT pick this up if reading non-stop sex scenes with very little storyline isn’t your thing. It’ll just piss you off. The only storyline you need to know about this is that an already put together threesome propositions another man who doesn’t believe he’s gay to become their forth lover for a year. Mouth full right? You have NO IDEA!!!!

Scenes were hot and heavy. The author definitely got across that the threesome love each other deeply in different ways. Adding the forth to the mix is proving to be a good decision, so far. There isn’t a cliffhanger, but I know that there are more installments to this series so I’m interested in seeing where this goes.

This is MMMM smut, nothing else. The plot is razor thin, even those there's the pretense of one. Rook, Knight, and Bishop are already in a committed three-way relationship, but they're looking for a fourth person. Enter Jason, a guy who doesn't even know he's gay. He and Rook hit it off, and I actually liked that part of the plot/relationship. The rest is a big smut fest, where it became hard (har, har) to keep all the hands, cocks, and balls straight (another lame pun, sorry). There's little emotional depth, also because of the switching POV. Maybe, if this story had been told purely from Rook's or Jason's POV, we would have felt more connected as readers. Still, I did want to read the next book after this one to see where it was going, though it bugged me that the author has split into several books what should have been one book. Marketing ploy.

This book starts hot and never lets up.

A solid menage MMM family invites a forth for a 1 year commitment. Sean introduces us to each of these men in their first few days in this new relationship. What a HOT start to what looks like a fun series. Looking forward to learning more about them.

Rook, Knight, and Bishop are in a committed relationship. Each pulling what they need from the other. They decide they need a fourth. Someone who will fit with them in all aspects. They are looking for someone to play with, be at their command for the next year. Knight thinks he's found the perfect man to be that fourth, but he's shy, he's timid and he's not gay. How will it ever work? Can they convince Jason this is the place he needs to be?

Opening Moves is HOT. Rook is the snuggly, gooey one. Bishop is the hard commanding one. Knight is the needy, artistic one. They make for a steamy sexy trio. The chemistry of the sex scenes is outstanding (and man do these men have a lot of sex!) My only complaint is at times I did have to stop my flow of reading to go back and figure out who is speaking. I would miss a name but have to go back to figure out who the "he" was in a sentence, which was annoying but it got better throughout.

It's a quick sexy little read. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Holy Smutballs, Batman!

Despite the fact that this story is 99.8% porn, there's still something I liked about it. The blurb is about all the plot you're going to get, so I don't really feel the need to cover it here. I liked the guys though, mostly..

Bishop: the toppiest top to ever top

Knight: I'm not really sure what I think of him.

Rook: I'd love him if he'd drop his abuse of the "honey's." Seriously, he's like a puppy. Cute & cuddly.

Jason: I like the dynamic between him & Rook.

Still though, there's something about the whole thing that doesn't sit right with me. The concept could be very interesting, but I think the execution was a bit flawed.

All in all decent enough I guess if you're just looking for some porn to brighten your day. ;) I might continue on with the series to see if it gains any substance.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, I am a little leery when it comes to more than two partners in a book but holy crap on a cracker this book was smoking hot!!!!! I could feel the love and emotions from each guy and they all worked so well with each and you could tell they all loved and wanted each other not just one and no one was ever left out. Each character has their own uniqueness and I love each and every one of them, I cannot wait to read the next book and devour the rest of this series. If I could give this book 10 stars I would.
Characters: well written and so lovable and believable
Sex: oh yeah!
Religious: no
Would I recommend to others: yes
More than one book in the series: yes
Genre: M/M/M/M Romance
Would I read more by this author: yes

Wow, this is a great start to a new series - I am so happy that I got the chance to review these books.

Though this may just be the start, we go in pretty much at furnace hot temperatures, and I can tell that I will need to read these in private, as they bring colour ... to my face!

The set up of the trio is subtly done, and we learn much more once Jason arrives - this is an inspired move, as it makes us meet them along with him and so we join as part of the set up, rather than standing outside looking in - it also guarantees that your blood pressure will rocket, as your brain translates the words onto the page into imagined actions .... HAWT!

I cannot wait to read on, and may be shifting around my calendar so it can happen very soon.

Mr Michael, I thank you!

Ok, I gotta let the tougher reviewer side out a little bit. First the cover, this edition cover just doesn't do the book justice. Looking at this cover I feel like I should be getting more of a stuffy guy story coming around to the good stuff. The other cover us better but still doesn't depict the wild sexiness of this book. Next, the story almost seems rush...like let's throw an idea out there that there is this ménage of men wanting a fourth, go fourth and show me what kind if sex they have. And that's exactly what you get. Steamy hot MM and MMMM sex, but still in the growing stage. With the names like King, Rook and Bishop you might be interested in a little background as to how three lovers actually got these names.....doesn't happen. But what does happen us they make an offer to a fourth that he can't refuse. This is my first time reading this author, I'll give them another shot I'm sure in hopes of getting more.

Just what the doctor ordered! lol I was curious to try a M/M/M/M foursome type of story. Never read anything like that before. And I found exactly what I was looking for here.

And talk about such a hot adventurous opportunity Jason gets when bishop, rook & knight offer him the chance to basically be their sex slave for a year for half a million. Where do I sign up? Jk lol

This was so sexy, fun & wild and it was just such a good time reading it. I look forward to reading the rest of this series next.

This is the first in a trio I think of books, where a threesome approach straight broke artists model Jason and offer him the job of being their sub for a year and paying him a huge sum of money. He agrees, because, hey, it beats working at McDonald's. While this is a foursome, off hand there wasn't much of a foursome in the bedroom and it seemed that most of the sex was in sets of two. I'm really not sure I see this as 4 guys happy together, but it seemed to be heading into more of two couples who play together, as the connection between the couples did not come across as equal to me. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

An honest to god fuckfest!

If you are looking for some plot of any kinda, steer away from it.
The MCs are touching dicks for about 90% of the book, the other 10% they talk about it.

I was a bit disappointed because most of the scenes were M/M, and not M/M+ as I was promised. Some scenes were not as steamy as they could have been, but we got a couple of really hot ones.

I had fun reading it and got the PWP I was looking for. Might read the second book when the need arise again.

Also, Jason should be called Pawn, i feel like it was a missed opportunity

I don't have a lot to say. The four guys are hot and the sex supposedly is hot but I didn't connect with all of it. There is definitely a disconnect as well because the reader gets very little back story and that is what is missing. Maybe Knight, Rook and Bishops story of how they came together will unfold in the upcoming books. I will continue to read the series just to find out. Very fast read.

I did not love this book. The one major thing it had going for it was that it was HOT and totally steamy. The sex scenes were great. While I generally liked the idea of the story, I really got annoyed by the lack of backstory to the 3 guys and how this contract was going to play out. Essentially, the contract was drawn up and Jason had no ability to make his own concessions or alterations. There was no discussion of what was expected of him. My biggest issue, however, was that Jason talked about not being interested in sex and he was brushed off and told that he just hadn't had it the right way yet. That was very ace phobic to me; I didn't like how he was told how wrong he was because he wasn't really interested in sex. It almost felt like he was forced in the beginning because he was pushed so much and no one would take no for an answer. All of that really made me drop it by a star or 2.

Man it was even better than I remembered. I love how Rook, Knight, and Bishop have become so close. The connection between Bishop and Knight is so special. All three love each other so much but Rook needed someone sweet for him. Jason is the perfect choice. The only issue I had was how Bishop said his lawyer, a female btw, wrote the contact but in Pre Game it was Rook’s lawyer that actually using what a Rook gave him that all three guys came up with. That confused me.
