My friend Rachel Wojo takes the reader on journey through the different feelings we face in the midst of struggle and gives solid, faith-based ideas for how to handle those feelings. She uses a blend of Christian hymns, scripture, Biblical characters’ stories, and her own story to connect with the reader. Best of all, at the end of each chapter she gives “Stepping Stones,” ideas to help the reader take concrete action that will help them deal with their negative emotions.

Rachel and I have similar ministry messages in a lot of ways. In my favorite chapter, Rachel talks about weeding out negative thoughts much like I talk about clearing out spiritual clutter! She also had wonderful suggestions about steps to take and things to avoid when life becomes overwhelming.

I’d recommend this book to anyone going through a life struggle has been through one. I hope God spreads it far and wide to bless His children and further His Kingdom.

What an encouraging book! Wojnarowski starts off by reminding us that based on Psalm 88, God longs to listen to our sad songs, our heart's cry. “God would rather hear about your bad day than not hear from you at all.” God understands our feelings and our need to express them. Even when we don't understand His plan or miss the lessons He wants us to get, we are in a good place when we are desperate for Him.

This is a good book for people who feel crushed. Perhaps all your friends have left you. Wojnarowski gives you permission to ache freely. She understands. She shares her own story, weaving into it lessons from Bible stories. She helps to identify misplaced hope. She helps you grasp how much God loves you. She knows about being in the desert, waiting on God, not understanding His plan. She's struggled to understand why God allows some things to happen and knows the difficulty of living in faith. She also knows about receiving and sharing God's grace.

This is a good book for people dealing with an overwhelming situation. She'll help you know how to forgive others when they let you down. She has suggestions for replacing negative internal chatter with truth, for getting rest, reaching out, finding joy, letting go of dreams, and more.

Wojnarowski describes herself as an example of brokenness that has been transformed into God's masterpiece – an unfinished project. She has written this book as a spiritual encouragement born out of her own experience. I highly recommend it.

She has included important verses at the end of each chapter as well as ideas for practical responses to her teaching. There is also a four week discussion guide at the end of the book.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

My Blog: https://pursuingstacie.wordpress.com

As I have mentioned before, 2015 was not kind to me or my family. (Although it grew me in ways personally and in my relationship with the Lord that I will forever be thankful for. But maybe next time, God, can we dumb-down my test just a little?)

So at the start of 2016, I determined that this year things were going to be different. At least the things that I could control. Which, is pretty much just me. I can only control me. Most of the time. I attempt to control me. I pretend to attempt to believe that I can control Stacie.

Anyway, as the year began, I realized that I was still carrying some pretty heavy baggage from 2015 right along with me. Which is why the title of Rachel Wojo’s book One More Step appealed to me. And I am so very glad that I was able to read it.

A growing trend that I have noticed lately (and is tragic, in my opinion) is that everyone thinks they need to put on a happy face. Life has to be Instagram-worthy at all times, Tweet-ready at every moment, Facebook-perfect morning and evening. But guess what? Life ain’t like that, folks. It’s just not.

Tell me something: How are you and I supposed to show the hurting exactly Who our Jesus is, if we present ourselves as perfect? If we act as though we were saved and BAM, all perfection and blessings and manna from Heaven? This is why I enjoyed this book. The author allowed herself to be real. To be vulnerable. To be open about her mistakes, her perceived failures, her hurts, her pains. And then, like a friend sitting across from me at Starbucks, gives advice about how to move forward. To move on. To take one more step.

Bottom Line: Read it. Period. Your soul will thank you.

Highly recommend! Especially helpful for anyone struggling with depression, overwhelmed with life, or just struggling to get out of bed each morning. The book comes with a link to a free printable journal that accompanies the book, if journaling is your thing. Excellent either way, but the journal definitely helps with the practical application of each chapter.

I loved this book so much I already know I'll be reading it again. My first read through I admit to not taking the time to do a lot of the writing exercise's which are at the end of each chapter. I still got a lot out of the book and learned a lot about myself and my faith in the process. My plan for my second read through is to force myself to go slower. So, I've said that I loved the book but why?

The Glorious

It's obvious from the very first page that Rachel Wojo has been through rough stuff in life. She knows pain and heartbreak and struggle. Sometimes when I read stuff from Christian leaders I get this feeling that they can't possibly understand my life. I didn't get that this time.
I didn't feel preached to once in the whole book. She gives strong advice, major encouragement, but it didn't feel forced. Every concept that she put forward she backed up really well. One of my favorite examples of this is the chapter on "stop watering the weeds". It's not just scripture, she's pulling these ideas from her own life. I was able to connect them both in life and in the Bible and that helped me.
The part I loved the most is how many of the topics were very relatable for me. Too often in the past I've read through these books and it just felt like they went over my head, I couldn't connect with them personally. I felt like the entire book was filled with things I want to apply in my own life, which is a big reason it's going on my to be re read list and making a cozy permanent home on my bookshelf.
I really like how adaptable this is for a small group. I knew this even before I saw the guide in the back specifically for this purpose. Which leads me to the next item...
Tons of extras. At the end of each chapter are two things - Pillars of Truth to lean on (Scripture relating to the chapter), and a Stepping Stone (a journal prompt or activity to apply the concept of the chapter). At the back of the book is both the discussion guide, thoughts to keep you going - basically a great summary of each chapter, and hymns which inspired each chapter. The added benefits don't end there though...
A printable workbook/journal that can go with the book. I've got at least 10 different fancy journals but guided worksheets are still my favorite. You can download and print an entire journal to go right along with the book on her website. This isn't required to get the full benefit of the book at all but I love the idea of it.
The Not so Glorious

Nada. Yep. Nada. I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to using it more and sharing it with my family. I've also taken a look at her website and know I've found someone to follow. I've read a few of her posts and am very interested in some of her challenges.

One More Step by Rachel Wojo is a guide for getting through the difficult circumstances that life often throws at us. In this book, Wojo shares many personal stories and how she found the strength to get through trials like divorce, her daughter being diagnosed with a terminal illness, and miscarriage.

I met Rachel at the gathering for Tommy Mommies in Nashville last year, and she struck me as a strong and smart lady. She was writing this book at the time, and once it was finished she sent me a copy, and I'm so glad she did! It is really interesting to get to know Rachel and her story better through these pages. She shares the vulnerable parts of her story in these pages, and it was an inspiration to see how she looks to God to get her through circumstances that are overwhelming.

Chapter 8 especially struck home, as Rachel listed different places we often turn to for temporary comfort when we are feeling overwhelmed, such as shopping, social media, etc. I could relate with almost every item on the list. She then turns it around and lists different ways to turn to God for strength instead, using David as an example. Each chapter ends with Bible verses to encourage you as you apply the tips she shares, as well as a journaling prompt. This book is grounded on God's Word, and I so appreciated all the scripture and biblical examples that Rachel shared.

I wasn't sure initially if I would get much out of this book at this time, since I am not currently dealing with any trials, but I was wrong. Many of these chapters are applicable every day difficulties, not just the big, life-changing ones. I think this book would be a great encouragement to someone that is dealing with a life-changing trial, but it is also useful for anyone to read.

Note: I have met the author of this book, and she sent me a free copy to review. This is my honest opinion.

From the start of One More Step, I connected with Rachel Wojo’s circumstances and encouragement when life’s journey becomes hard. One More Step offers tools for finding strength to face unwanted challenges. (Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my review.)

Rachel Wojo relates personal experiences of challenge from her life: divorce and a child with increasing medical needs. Each chapter finishes with Scripture verses and a journaling exercise to apply the themes and steps discussed in the chapter. I appreciated the chance to make personal what I had read, and I was surprised at how transforming the exercises were. From the first stepping stone to the fourth, my attitude changed, as reflected by the written prayers I recorded in a journal. The steps were challenging and encouraging and helped me immediately apply what I had read.

Though taking one more step sounds simple, this is not a book to take lightly or breeze through. I read it more slowly than most books, and took time to let each chapter sink in and take root.

If you’re facing a challenging situation in life and aren’t sure whether you’ll get through, One More Step will give you practical tools and encouragement to help you believe that you can.

'One More Step' is a Christian womens book to overcoming obstacles. Although most of the book of Psalms is for encouragement, author Rachel Wojo points out one chapter that speaks of despair. It's a Psalm that lets the Christian woman know it's ok to ache with sadness. There are activities throughout the book to help the reader through each process. As I worked each 'Stepping Stone' I was able to process just a little more and understand more about myself. The reader can add these 'steps' to their own journal or print out a beautiful companion journal at: http://rachelwojo.com/onemorestep I like the graphic on page 19 in which Rachel states: Hope in people = Disappointed. Hope in things = Distracted. Hope in ourselves = Devastated. Hope in Christ = Delivered

Rachel writes of her divorce, remarriage and a special needs daughter with MPS (mucopolysaccharidosis). I believe the authors thesis could be summed up in this one statement from page #79. God's immense grace brings joy in the midst of suffering.

I recommend this book to every reader who is going through a hard time or knows someone who is.

This book speaks from Rachel's heart to the readers heart. We have all been through times in our lives when we feel like giving up, giving in to despair and doubting that we can get through difficult circumstances and we feel like we can't take one more step.

Rachel shares her heart and her own life experiences with us. She has experienced life with a terminally ill special needs child, divorce, miscarriage, and the death of her own mom.

Scripture is shared in each of the sixteen chapter but not in an overly preachy way. Bible stories about those who also struggled with issues are discussed.

Each chapter has verses for encouragement and at the end of the chapter is an application that you can write in a one more step journal that can be downloaded from the website.

The book can be done as an individual study or as a group. Group discussion questions are included at the back of the book along with points from each chapter to help reinforce key truths.

If you are looking for an encouraging book that will remind you to not give up and rely on God and his grace and mercy every step and every day of your life you will certainly enjoy reading this book.

Rachel writes a heartfelt step by step guide to taking steps that will allow the reader to move forward when going through a tragedy or particularly difficult time in life. The steps are broken down into a managable pace so that you have room to move through them at your own pace without the pressure to move forward to the next step until you are ready. Rachel includes much of her own personal experience with difficulty in life, and helps illustrate that it is possible to come through trials full of joy.

Having walked through my own fair share of difficulties in the past few years, I found this book to be very affirming. I went through several of the steps laid out in the chapters myself and experienced much of what Rachel talked about. I also found a couple of chapters that spoke directly into my life where I am now and though I don't view my life as walking through anything particularly difficult right now, I was still reminded of things I need to continue to work on and keep striving towards.

Rachel Wojo shares her personal story with a blend of humor and grace, inserting God's Word throughout her book. She also provides a free journal to go along side this book, which I really enjoyed because it helped me to open my mind up to things that were going on in my life and were affecting me in ways I did not realize how bad things were actually getting for me.

She offers valuable tools to help you take each step with God's grace and mercy. It is a very well written book. Rachel offers very comforting words to help you with yourself. i.e.; self-esteem, it helped me refocus my personal journey with Christ

What an encouraging book! Rachel Wojo has faced many obstacles and experiences in her life. Her dreams were crushed. Throughout this book, she is honest and shares all of her struggles and heartaches. She shows us that it is okay to ache and that life won't always be this hard. She shows us that we can make it by taking "One More Step".

I would recommend this book to every woman out there. We all have heartaches and many of our dreams are shattered. This book was so encouraging to me. It was easy to read, and I could really identify with her struggles.

In this book Rachel offers her own story in hopes to reach others in their trials. She honestly shares her story about divorce, her special needs child, and how God redeems even the most desperate situations.

Rachel offers valuable tools to help you take each step with God's grace and mercy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every chapter because I was able to apply her wisdom to my life and bookmark text to read again.

We all struggle in life at some point. This book will help you see how God never leaves us.

Very encouraging book

Rachel's story is so inspiring I knew right away that she could inspire us all to have courage to just take the next step through our difficult circumstances. After reading the entire book, I can say this is so true for me. Even when I have know idea how things will work out or how I will get through, I know that I can continue moving forward by just taking the next step and leaving the rest in God's hands. I am so thankful to have come across this book.

Rachel Wojo has become my new favorite author. Her testimony always points back to God’s faithfulness, even though she’s experienced hardship after hardship. She is a beautiful example of how God’s love and peace can help and sustain you even in the hardest of circumstances. This book was life changing and it brought me closer to Jesus. I love her raw emotion, her sensitivity, her gentle words, and sweet prayers. I’ve never been really good at praying on my own, and this book has helped me find practical ways to do that.

Fantastic book! Highly recommended!

I suppose the right thing to do, based on the current status of this book on Amazon (95% of the reviews are 5-Star), is to write a favorable, positive review and post it for everyone to read and enjoy. I'm a little late to the game so I feel no particular compulsion to be altogether favorable in my review.

To be fair, however, I don't think Ms Wojo wrote this book with any man (aside from her husband) whatsoever in mind so it could be that she simply wasn't speaking to my version of the species. That's fine and at the heart of my review is that thought: the book simply did not speak to me as a man. There's nothing sexist or unfair about that assessment. Rather, just an honest evaluation of where I was with this book.

On the other hand, sentences like this: Before you know it, the feeling of wanting to give up has saturated your spirit and you feel like you can't take even one more step. You have lost every ounce of strength in your mind, body, and spirit" seem to speak across the sexes and engulf us all in the pathos of her writing and I think, at times, she does a good job of remind all readers that God is available, that he understands us, and that he is consistent.

The book is a very self-centered book and I don't mean that in a pejorative way. I simply mean that the book is about Ms Wojo and her life experiences: her joys, her sorrows, her marriage, her children, her faith, and her life. It is mixed with stories from the Bible and she is trying to understand her life in light of those stories she reads in the Bible. And although I have no use whatsoever for her particular 'use' of Scripture (stories generally pulled from context and applied to situations the Bible writers did not envision), I do appreciate the fact that the book is filled with more than an abundance of Scripture spread throughout the book. I would appreciate more context for those stories, but that's just a personal thing.

The book is also very typically a book about the 'problems' of American Christians. I don't think this book will have much of an audience in poorer nations where Christians are actually suffering. However, it will appeal to many in the mainstream American church where Christians suffer from the pressures of pressure, fatigue, burnout, poopy diapers, grocery shopping, and child-rearing. I'm not at all discounting the struggles of Ms Wojo at all. Struggles they are; and real. But there is a sense in this book that much of what she has struggled with is uniquely American and could be solved as much by a trained secular psychologist. Again, I'm not discounting the real pain she has endured in her life. That's not my point, so please don't misunderstand the point I am making which is that while some folks may relate to her easily, I think there is also a lot who will not.

Each chapter deals with some particular issue Ms Wojo has experienced in her life and she works hard to relate this to our Christian experience by blending stories, Scripture, quotes, and more into a narrative that explores feelings, and emotions and which eventually draws out some principles designed to guide us through the negativity often felt because of these experiences. At the end of each chapter readers will find "Pillars of Truth to Lean On", a bullet point list of Scriptures associated with the chapter's content. Finally, there are "Stepping Stones' at the end of the chapters which are coordinated with the One More Step journal.

At the end of the book, readers will find Discussion Questions, some perfectly Tweetable block quotes, acknowledgements, a selection of hymn titles that guided the writing of the book, information relating to MPS, and end notes.

Again, I am certain this book will find its way into the hands of someone who needs to read this book. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of those people. There's nothing particularly wrong with the book. I just didn't like it or find that it spoke to me where I am at. That doesn't mean it won't be helpful for others especially those going through difficult times of the loss of a child or or a parent or a child with a particular disability. At the end, she points them to Jesus: "Jesus not only heals broken hearts, but he also transforms broken hearts into his hands and feet that carry his love and share it with others" (192).

That's enough for anyone and would have been a fantastic opening salvo.

I've been reading self-help books about finding strength/joy in the tough times for almost 20 years now with avid dedication, so when I discovered Rachel Wojo's ONE MORE STEP, purchasing and reading it was a no-brainer. I'm glad I did. Rachel's method of weaving her testimony with relevant Biblical stories--and verses--with words of wisdom is seamless. I am incredibly impressed with her writing style as well as with her message. I love the feel of ONE MORE STEP being so much more than JUST a memoir or JUST a Bible Study or JUST self-help information. As someone who is currently working on her own memoir and attempting to make it more than JUST a memoir, Rachel's book is a testament to the fact that not only can it be done, but it can be done effectively and well worth reading. I am very glad I "discovered" Rachel; I have already completed two of her Bible Studies as well as reading ONE MORE STEP and I can't wait to continue following her.
