Sometimes it’s the silent ones that feel the deepest. Adeline found herself looking forward to the large, silent drifter who came to her family bakery often to enjoy their wares. The day a Denver banker darkens the bakery doorstep, claiming the mortgage on the building was due, money that Adeline doesn’t have, the drifter becomes her knight in shining armor when he offers to help discover the validity of this claim.
The strong, yet silent Malloy proves that still waters run deep as he wears his heart on his sleeve for the feisty Adeline. Together they uncover the truth behind the secret mortgage her father took out and what a vile monster this banker is. Has Adeline misread Malloy’s intentions or is there something in his past, present and the unknown future that prevents him from giving his love completely to her? Can the young baker find the recipe for love that Malloy will crave as much as her pies?
Shades of evil villains versus the good guys! The Drifter’s Proposal Kristin Holt is part mystery, frosted liberally with deceit and a wonderful budding romance that cannot be denied. Adeline is no Shrinking Violet and Malloy has just enough honor and mystery to seem larger than life. A sweet tale of romance that builds slowly while the tension of the threat of losing everything keeps things interesting!
Kristin Holt has whipped up a wonderful Holiday read for those who know that love can conquer all.

A solid "just-kisses" novella featuring an "on the shelf" spinster and the drifter cowboy who has been frequenting her family bakery for months. When a big city banker shows up claiming the heroine's deceased father took out a mortgage and it's now past due, the hero rides to the rescue. It's straight-up rescue fantasy, but the author does gives the heroine (and her mother) some moments of gumption, which I appreciated. A nice read.
Adaline's father died three months ago. She's keeping the family, and their bakery, running. Days before Christmas, a banker comes to collect on the family's mortgage - one Adaline knows nothing about, and one they apparently defaulted on. It becomes one memorable Christmas.
Malloy overhears the bad news and offers to help. He's been sweet on Adaline awhile, admiring her from a distance. Adaline and Malloy have great chemistry! I enjoyed seeing them misunderstand each other, then work together. Their relationship grows beautifully. I love how Malloy treats Adaline and how he navigates her little family and finds a place in their hearts. Seriously heartwarming.
Ooh! This book had me hooked immediately! I like a puzzle I can't solve, and I never would have figured this one out! I was shocked several times by both good and bad information! And the ending was ever so cute!
What a sweet story! This delightful tale brought back memories of days of my childhood when most men tried to be gentlemen and ladies were more feminine and good manners were considered important in everything one did. Girls grew up looking for a Prince Charming to love and be loved by, and marriages were for always. It seems that somewhere along the way, honor and integrity became bad words, or maybe just forgotten as delusions.
Adeline was the daughter of the town's newly deceased baker/bakery owner. Malloy was a drifter of sorts and he daily patronized Whipples Bakery. Not only to eat the delicious baked good but to look at and day dream of the young bakers daughter. A banker shows up shorty after Mr. Whipple does claiming the baker is arrears in a loan from his bank. You will enjoy the mystery and the love story.
Are they going to marry? Did her dad hide a bad secret from his family? I couldn't put this book down until I got to the end. Kept me reading all the way to the end. I'm looking forward to the next book. I'll probably start it tonight.

This is a very sweet book with a little suspense woven in among the romance. I always enjoy reading a book by Kristin, never disappointed. Wonderful descriptions of the characters and well written. This is the forth book in the: Holidays In Mountain Home series. Even though it can be read as a stand alone, eventually I would like to read books one to three and catch up. JudyE
This was the final book of a four-book series. Unlike earlier books in this series, the references to events from earlier books are so limited that one could read this offering as a stand-alone book. This was a very entertaining story with a plot that kept me involved from start to finish. Remarkably free of editing errors, there were no real distractions. Adaline is one feisty heroine and was well matched by Malloy, who came across as an extremely capable hero, yet was still humble and self-effacing. If you are looking for a relatively short read that lets you escape from your cares for a bit, I highly recommend this five star offering by Kristin Holt
