Pack Rules #11

Jackson's Journey

Rate this book
Andy Adler has had one hell of a life. Abused by his father and abandoned by every lover he’s ever had. Andy’s brother Eric has been there through it all, keeping him sane, safe, and cared for. After almost dying at the hands of his own father, Andy is shocked when the lovely scent of his mate pushes through the haze of pain. Eric doesn’t trust this wolf trying to take charge of his brother’s care and is ready to do battle once again for his brother. The man, Jackson Burke, prevails and refuses to leave his mate’s side. Andy, once healed, feels as if he’s lost in a dream. His mate is the most attractive and attentive man he’s ever met. Could this be his forever? Could this be the love he always believed existed? Alas, dreams are often shattered and this one is no different. Can Jackson Burke fix what he has broken or are they both destined for only loneliness?

Jackson Burke is a good man, but doesn’t often think about the consequences of his actions. He thought that the hardest part of his mating with Andy Adler was dealing with Andy’s over protective twin brother Eric, a large and menacing wolf with only his brother’s care in mind, but that is only the beginning of his trials. The truth comes out and Jackson acts rashly and jeopardizes his mating and the very nearly his life. Can Jackson overcome his own actions and his own prejudices? His future happiness depends on it.

I did not enjoy this book at all – too forced and too many holes, and seriously not enough storyline or depth.
This story felt forced and “copy pasted’ – I truly felt no spark between main characters – shallow and incongruous.
Some irritating continuity issues …
Jeremy was staying at his Uncle to protect his cousins … the Alpha Eric and his brother? By a younger human?
If Eric is such a strong Alpha – why did he allow his Uncle’s abuse of his pack for so long? After his Uncle’s death, his temper and violence is quick … but none of that while under his Uncle?
Andy smells the Cougar Shifter in Jesse’s bar immediately. How did he not smell his mate as a Wolf Shifter?
In the woods – reconciliation scene - they “divest of their clothing” – after shedding it at the edge of the woods and shifting / running before that. Uhm no, pay attention to detail.
Thanks for the effort of putting it out there, but for me – no.

This was a very pleasant read, although, I didn't like Jackson much in the beginning, but later he pretty much redeemed himself. There were a few editing issues but I still enjoyed the story. The endings are usually my favorite part when everyone is happy. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

OK this book is unexpected nothing like the rest of the books in the series that I have read so far and I mean that in a good way just when you think all is lost something happened for another happily ever after

Great and challenging.

Great as it continues with the Adlers - I can't wait for Eric's mate.
Challenging as it brought up some triggers too.

The Only Good Woman Is A Dead One

In this series there are two types of women. The mom's who reject and abandon their sons is one. (There is only one incident of a daughter/ sister in the first 11 books.) The second type of woman/female are the good moms and sister who are dead.

If there are other women including sisters or moms they must be kept in confinement with the also nonexistent kids. You may hear rumors but you never see them and they don't visit or attend family parties or events.
This society seems to exist exclusively of gay males. They have brothers, dads, or male cousins but no females. And with all the mates being also male it seems inevitable that the society will continue to be all male until it dies out. Even all co-workers and bosses mentioned are male. (Except for one girl at the diner.) I really think the author must hate women since there is never even one appearance by a female relative. The only female to ever talk was the drinks server girl at the diner. It is no wonder they are all gay since there aren't any female wolves or even humans to mate with.

These books are full of errors but this one takes the cake. When Andy turns to a wolf to run away and Jackson likewise turns to chase him both their clothes are destroyed and left behind. When they stop running and make up Jackson undresses Andy. Where did the clothes come from?

Rating: 2.5 Not one of my favorites in the series.

I found Jackson's reasoning and coldness too contrived and artificial as a plot obstacle. I really thought that just the obstacle of being torn between his brother and his mate might have been enough to make the story work. There were some odd inconsistencies in the story as well. Andy and Jackson have been shifted and running through the forest but then take off their clothes to make out--they should have been ripped off. In addition, it seems that all the info we got about being repudiated by a mate in Owen's story is contradicted by this story. In Owen's story, if a mate verbally rejects you then you can go feral or die; in this story you can find ways to deal with being rejected and have a somewhat normal life. Unless I'm misreading it, there is some sloppiness making its way into the series. The series may have played itself out. This is the last one out as of this writing so I'm not sure if I'll be checking back for more or not. I still think that the first one was my favorite--definitely the hottest!

After having an abusive life from his father. His brother was his rock. After he almost died his mate found him. Eric has always been there for him. He is very protective of Andy. Eric does not trust Jackson and after hurting Andy, Eric definitely does not trust Jackson. Will Jackson be able to win Eric’s trust? Will Eric ever be able to trust Jackson? Will Eric be the one that stands in-between the two Mates? Will they be able to get around all the obstacles in their way?

The usual 3.5! My biggest gripe this time ¾ through, the MC's shifted, leaving their clothes behind. Suddenly, they're taking off said clothes to have sex! Come the fuck on! Editor, come out, come out wherever you are!
But it's the train wreck I can't walk away from, plus it's FREE! I think there's only 4 more left, sooo, yeah I'm diving in for more!

My favorite so far

I think that I liked this couple the best of all of the Pack Rules books. Both Jeremiah and Andy were broken characters and their relationship suffered because of it, but they were able to grow and overcome their trials. I really liked that Andy wasn't willing to instantly forgive Jeremiah just because he decided to change his mind.

Good continuation to this novella series! I love that even though all the story are based on finding a mate they are all very different. Continued to build on returning characters. Can't wait for more!
