Rate this book
Cassidy McCullough has come home to the family ranch outside Busted Spur, Arizona, to prepare for her upcoming wedding… to the wrong man.

Sure, Michael’s nice enough—he’s smart, successful, and good-looking to boot. The trouble is, he’s not G.W. Benton, the sexy, slightly older rancher who lives near the McCullough place. G.W. has a young son and a history of heartbreak, and while Cassidy has known him all her life, she swears she’s over her childhood crush. Cassidy has made herself a life in Seattle, where Michael is eagerly awaiting her return. A difficult decision looms closer and closer for the big-city girl who still has a soft spot for her country roots. Is Seattle—and Michael—her real home, or does her heart still belong to Busted Spur after all this time?

All proceeds from the sale of this novella will be donated to the Humane Society.

The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

It feels like the start of a novel that got cut short

Sure, we all know where this is headed. But the kiss finally happened on the last two pages? Really?
And then there is the business of Internet radio. What? Podcasts are downloaded and listened to on devices like smart phones. And he makes his podcasts in the barn? In Arizona? What about the animal noises and the heat?

I almost feel guilty counting this as a "book." I mean, it's a novella, but there's a lot packed into each page. It didn't feel rushed and there were several subplots going on. Cassidy has come back home ostensibly to plan her wedding. Once she's home, however, she refuses to do any of that planning. Everyone can see her heart really isn't into it. And, it's not just the wedding she isn't into. There's a certain widower who Cassidy has known her entire life and it seems like he's been waiting for her as well. The ending is abrupt, but then, this is a novella. You can read this one in a few hours. It's entertaining and fun. A good summer afternoon read.

A nice, quick read about Cassie, a woman who escapes back to her home town under the guise of planning her wedding. In reality, she's returning to the life -- and the man -- she loves and yearns for. For a novella, this has a nice layering of subplots. (My only complaint was the frequent use of the word "rig" in lieu of car/truck/vehicle, which was like a mental speed bump. Perhaps it's a regional thing. Around here, a "rig" refers to a semi or a 4WD rock crawler.)

Interlude

First time that I have read a Linda Label Miller in a while. I think that I have read most of her books and totally enjoy them. This one is no different, I enjoyed the hell out of it. She writes as though telling the story out loud. You can almost hear her voice. Good job.

A novella is a quick read and this one was. The first part of the story was good but the end was just too quick. I won't spoil it for you.

Makes me smile and hummmm!

Love this short story because it shared the dedication and love between family and good ole fashion unrequited love becoming a reality. Made me feel real nice. Love you Linda!

Short story

Not what I expected from Linda Leal Miller. I have enjoyed a lot of her stories but this was hard to keep my interest not to mention the lack of romance from a good author like linda Leal Miller.

Can Cassidy find what she is looking for?

Very short and was just missing something. I wish this novella was a lot longer. The couple went from barely interacting with each other to instant true love?

Terrific

I wish it had been more than a novella. Is there a chance it could be fleshed out to a regular length book?

I liked the story. It would be great to work it into a book. Sketch out the characters., and give Shelby a love interest.
