Elder Races #8.5

Dragos Goes to Washington

Rate this book
Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, needs to throw a party without maiming anyone. That isn't exactly as easy as it might sound. After the destructive events of the last eighteen months, the Elder Races are heading to Washington D.C. to foster peace with humankind. Not known for his diplomacy skills, Dragos must rely on his mate Pia to help navigate a battlefield of words and polite smiles rather than claws. With Dragos's mating instinct riding close to the surface, his temper is more volatile than ever and the threat of violence hovers in the air. Then the human spouse of a prominent politician winds up murdered and Dragos and Pia must race against time to hunt down those behind it before they are held responsible for the crime.

The latest novella in the Elder Races holds passion, peril, political intrigue, and revelations that will change Dragos and Pia's lives forever.

DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON is the first part of a three-story series about Dragos, Pia, and their son Liam. Each story stands alone, but fans might want to read all three in order as they will be DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON, PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD, and LIAM TAKES MANHATTAN.

I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and other stuff. I taught myself to read when I was four. That was around the time I tried to ride my tricycle to work. I wasn't sure where work was, but I knew it had to be interesting if people went there every day. Now I combine my love of books with work, and I don't have to ride my tricycle to get there. My Elder Races series began May, 2011. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook!

Dragos and his family - STORY 4

And honestly...every time I look at this bookcover, I want to lick it...

Besides this unquestionable fact, this book is a very nice new adventure for the Cuelebre family.
Dragos as the boss of all the Elder Races goes to Washington with Pia in order to make friends with the humans. And he runs out of patience.

She crooned in his head. "Honey, I'm so proud of you for not killing anybody."
His gaze flashed to hers, and that flat, assessing expression vanished as he laughed. Squeezing her fingers, he told her, "Week's not over yet."

There is a murder, a mystery and things will become very complicated. Who are the bad guys?

Moreover Dragos and Pia are in love and all over each over and this is always good!

He said against her fragile, pedal soft skin, "You know how this goes, don't you?"
"In a general sort of way," she whispered unsteadily. She ran her hands up his arms and dug her fingers into his shoulders. "You diddle here, I suck there. Or maybe you suck, and I diddle. Or both. Couple of pats, and ten or fifteen thrusts. 'Oh baby, your so good, I can't take it,' pow, et cetera, 'let's go raid the fridge.”
He felt his lips pull into a grin, and he made himself stop. Forcing some bite into his voice, he repeated, "Ten or fifteen thrusts?"
Her body shook as she started to giggle. "Well, you know, I never really counted them. I'm usually too preoccupied with my own pow to keep track of what you're up to."

Trouble...there's been a lot of it in the Elder Races lately and that has been causing strife with the humans, prompting them to protest and possibly more. Dragos and Pia head off to Washington with the rest of the demesne leaders to meet with the human leaders to come up with a solution.

OMG...this is one of my favorite paranormal couples hands down! I just love Dragos and Pia and how they are together. T.H. can keep dishing out these novellas and I will be one happy camper! And I was even happier hearing what Pia and Dragos wanted to do but really...they could've had better timing.

And on top of everything, if you read the blurb, you know there's a murder. It adds a nice bit of drama to the story but in all honesty, I would have been happy with just what was happening with Pia and Dragos.

Events are set up for the next novella, Pia Does Hollywood, coming out November 17, 2015 and that finally leads to another Liam novella, Liam Takes Manhattan, coming out December 22, 2015. Merry Christmas to us! ;)

Meh, the story seemed to get lost in all the pointless sex scenes between Pia/Dragos, their over the top descriptions of each other and them constantly mentioning how horny and in love they were didn't help matters.

I had not read any of the Elder Races books/novellas in some time that I liked as well as I enjoyed this one. There was mystery, sex, politics, sex, a bit of history, some small bit of tragedy and did I mention sex?.

Honestly, while I have rounded this off to a 5 Star novella it did seem to have a bit more sex than is useful for a short work like this but there was a bit of a reason for some of it and at worst I subtract half a star and it still comes back to 5 Star reading.

The worst thing about trying to write a review for a short story or novella is that you cannot say too much or you spoil the story very easily and this is true here but while this story is pretty much complete is is actually the first part of a trilogy of novellas (Dragos Goes to Washington, Pia Does Hollywood, and Liam Takes Manhattan) that will be released by years end.

So just to pique your interest a bit, murder, illness, politics, enemies all around, a bit of Sherlock Holmes and you really can't go wrong with this novella. I highly recommend you get your hands on it quick before some club footed reviewer spoils a great story (and some idiot will!).

Dragos Goes to Washington is a novella and the #8,5 and the 1st part of a three-story Trilogy about Dragos, Pia, and their son Liam aka Peanut...well, he now goes by Liam...growing up, he is!!!

This quick read sees the Elder Races going to Washington to promote and encourage peace with humankind.

We watch as Dragos and Pia steer around political intrigue, murder, danger......and how they race against time to finding the bad guys before things get out of control for both sides.

Another great addition to this amazing Series. The Elder Races by Thea Harrison has definetly become one of my favourite pnr series. The world she has created just keeps getting better and better.

This Trilogy continues with Pia Does Hollywood, and Liam Takes Manhattan.

Can't wait!!

Dragos has no use for human politics, and when you are a Dragon it's hard not to just eat your pesky rivals to shut them up, but recent events are stirring up tensions between human and Wyr, so Dragos and Pia head to Washington D.C. to try to smooth things over.

This was a decent little short story with not enough Liam, but plenty or Dragos and Pia and plenty of sexy times - twice mated but the mating heat is still going strong with these two. There is a mystery and half, and a just enough set up to open things up for the next short, Pia Does Hollywood.

I've read everything with Dragos, Pia, and The Peanut. This novella (129 pages) was weak. In fact, I'm growing tired of established authors taking the easy road, writing filler-fan-fic from a popular series. Maybe that's why my favorite novella in this line isn't even a romance: Peanut Goes to School.

The supposedly "sexy" dialogue in this book made me cringe. The murder mystery in Washington DC was somewhat intriguing, but it was resolved too quickly. The cause of the rash was obvious to me from the first (predictable). The story doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but it does leave various political issues unresolved, especially involving Tatiana, Queen of the Light Fae. This plot line is presumably to be continued in the upcoming two novellas.

There's a lot of sex, but it felt flat and boring. There was no emotional build-up, no sizzling chemistry. Just sex and more sex, beginning in the first chapter, with awful dialogue about sex. The sex scenes in Dragon Bound felt much more original and authentic.

For me, it's not worth the money, overpriced at $3.99. If each of the three linked novellas cost that much, the entire "book" would cost $12.00.

4.5 stars!

Dragos has to attend a summit in Washington involving the leaders of the Elder Races and the leaders of the United States in order to foster peace with humankind after the last 2 years of violence and unrest.

Dragos has to be diplomatic and try not to kill or eat anyone while attending the meetings or parties.

And on top of everything else, Pia and Dragos have to decided to try and have another baby.
They're in the middle of the mating frenzy, which makes Dragos even more possessive, aggressive and dominate when around Pia.

This was a fun, fast read and a wonderful installment to the Elder Races series.

About 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

Oh, Dragos, you sexy thing....

Dragos Goes to Washington is definitely for people who just can't get enough of Dragos and Pia. It's hot and steamy with lots of pow (you need to read the book for that one). Dragos is the Ultimate Alpha Male, especially when he is in a mating frenzy. Of course there is that pesky trip to Washington, where the Elder Races are supposed to do a little face time with the humans.

One of the nice things about this book is that we get to see Liam for a short time. I also loved Pia and Dragos together. While Dragos is a little too possessive for my tastes, I can see the appeal.

There are 3 short novellas planned for the next few months. They are Dragos Goes to Washington, Pia Does Hollywood, and Liam Takes Manhattan. I felt that this book could be read on its own just to get a taste for the author's writing style. Of course, the series is best enjoyed when read in order.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of this book.

I love these stories about the Elder Races and without a doubt Dragos and Pia are my favourite couple .Its with heartfelt pleasure that I pick up these novellas that showcase their family life and allow the reader to glimpse just how entwined this couple really are. In such a short time they have truly been through the mill. They have mated, had a child ( the adorable Liam ) and faced death which resulted in a second mating! Yet there's still more turmoil to face and in this story we see them heading off to Washington to entertain the President no less but with enemies in high places it's about to be a very turbulent trip indeed!
Oo it's short so I can't say too much lest I ruin it for other readers. What can I say? Ok it's very much a story about the relationship this couple share and shows just how consumed they are by each other and the passion that drives them. They are not human remember so expect sex scenes that are raw and wild and yet I never doubt that tenderness exists between them. Fear not there's a very interesting story here that ramps up the tension between not only the various Elder Races but also the humans which frankly outnumber the more magical creatures. So expect not just romance but a real continuation of a journey that is still far from over.
This is the first of three novellas and the second will be Pia Goes to Hollywood, closely followed by Liam Takes Manhatten . This may be a quick read but it's sexy, very entertaining with just enough suspense to have the reader guessing and of course imaginative. This couple are many things but dull just isn't one of them!
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

Dragos and the rest of the Wyr leaders have decided to face the rising tension between the humans and Wyr kind by meeting with the human political leaders in Washington DC. It is quickly discovered that many humans are using the discord between Wyr and human kind to enhance their political aspiration. When a political figure is found murdered, in the Dragos home, during a cocktail party, he must pull out his centuries of cunning to keep a bad situation from turning worse.

I Love, Love, Love the Elder Races series. Dragos Goes to Washington is a novella that focuses on my core base of favorites from this series, ie Dragos and Pia. That being said, Thea Harrison had me from the start but she then proceeded to provide a wonderfully told story that captured me immediately and held me till the end. Quick, easy and very entertaining!

I received this ARC copy of Dragos Goes to Washington from Teddy Harrison LLC in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication October 12, 2015.

Well let me just mention that I didn't read the last 2 books, but I found that didn't detract from this story at all. There is mention of some stuff that happened in them though.

The Elder races are being targeted by some humans for political gain. Are the Elder races more savage than Humans? This story won't answer that question but will prove that Human's can be just as cunning and underhanded.
The Human leaders of North America and Elder race leaders meet in Washington for a summit about 'getting along'. Politics and hidden agendas rule the day, and perhaps it isn't the best time for Dragos and Pia to plan extending their family.

Pia and Dragos stay just as absorbingly interesting as they were in book one. Lots of sex in this one!

I was totally sucked into this one and found it hard to put down.
Listened on audio and the usual reader for Thea Harrison (Sophie Eastlake) does a terrific job!

Favorite Quote: She crooned in his head, ‘Honey, I’m so proud of you for not killing anybody. ‘His gaze flashed to hers, and that flat, assessing expression vanished as he laughed. Squeezing her fingers, he told her, ‘Week’s not over yet.’

Dragos and Pia Cuelebre are on their way to Washington, DC to try and repair the damaged peace between mankind and the wyr demesne. Certain events already have Dragos riding the killing edge and Pia has to make sure no one taunts the deadly dragon. When an important politician’s husband is found murdered in their house and it looks like a Wyr is the culprit, Pia and Dragos will have to pull out all the stops to figure out who’s trying to frame them..and why.

I adore these novellas that Harrison writes about the Elder Races. They are perfect little peeks back into our favorite character’s lives and grace us with clues to new plotlines and story directions. Dragos Goes to Washington is part of a three novella series centering around Dragos, Pia, and their son Liam. They can each be read as a standalone but more fun when read in order. Short and sweet, Harrison delivers a full, rich, often steamy stories that engage you from page one.

Pia and Dragos are entering another chapter of their lives. Liam is growing up faster everyday and Pia finds herself experiencing some growing pains of her own. Though Liam was a surprise for them neither see any reason not to at least try again. *wink-wink* This of course engages the mating bond, putting an already volatile Dragos at defcon 12.

He was wearing his inscrutable expression, his gold gaze flat and unrevealing as he watched the protesters. It was one of his most dangerous expressions.

At the same time, Dragos and Pia are required to play nice for a Wyr/Human summit. Think UN summit but much, much deadlier. The supernatural events over the last year have caused great concern and damage to the already fragile peace and now there is a human supremacist group called A Right To Privacy that is doing everything possible to make sure the summit does not go well.

Harrison does a fabulous job of creating a tense volatile conflict while further exploring the dynamics of Dragos and Pia’s relationship. Even after a couple of years, there is still a sense of wonder and confusion on Pia’s part as to how she and Dragos managed to come together. He keeps his emotions locked down tight and sometimes Pia is unsure of how Dragos feels about her and their life together.

“How on earth did we find ourselves here, of all places?”

As king of the wyrs, Dragos must do some serious juggling to keep his people and his family safe. He can’t even afford to be seen as weak but in the privacy, he reassures us and Pia that he is one hundred percent committed to his family-especially Pia.

“As long as you’re okay, everything is okay even when it’s not. When you’re not okay, the world is hell.”

The mystery solves quickly, the events surrounding the case opening the door to a new storyline and arc that should prove to be a very interesting time for the all the wyrs. I loved getting to spend sometime with my favorite Elder Race characters and seeing what they are up to. I look forward to the next two novellas, Pia Goes to Hollywood (11/17), Liam Takes Manhattan (12/22), and the next full length novel-Shadow’s End ( 12/1).

No empezó muy diferente de las otras, y tiene sus momentos simpáticos,

“You diddle here, I suck there. Or maybe you suck, and I diddle. Or both. Couple of pats, and ten or fifteen thrusts. ‘Oh baby, you’re so good, I can’t take it,’ *pow*, et cetera, ‘let’s go raid the fridge.’”
“Ten or *fifteen* thrusts?”
“Well, you know, I never really counted them up. I’m usually too preoccupied with my own pow to keep track of what you’re up to.”
“Your pow,” he growled. “I think you’re mistaken.”
“About what?”
“That’s *pows*. Plural,” he told her. “You’re too preoccupied with your multiple pows to keep track of what I’m doing.

Ug. No-no-no. Eso no es nada de sexy.

Y cuando él le dice que se asustó cuando ella se desmayó, ella empieza a disculparse como consolandolo. What's wrong with you, woman? ¡Estabas enferma!

Y tal como se mencionara en otro comentario, esto se vuelve demasiado repetitivo (cof otro autor más estrujando al máximo sus libros cof)

I think fans of Pia and Dragos will love this story. It brings back the magic of their courtship and mating, while moving their lives forward after the events of Midnight’s Kiss. It fits nicely after reading that novel, but even if you are a few books behind, I think you would fall easily into the story.

Two major things are happening. One: the mating frenzy is back as these two contemplate a major life change. And two: they are heading to Washington DC, for a big summit of leaders for both the Elder Races and humankind. Tensions are high in the aftermath of the last book’s bloodshed, and diplomacy is vital. Too bad that’s not a skill that comes easily to our favorite dragon.

I enjoyed the story. Pia and Dragos really are magic together. They are such fantastic compliments, and the decisions they make here help keep any signs of staleness at bay. They are still very sexy, and I like peeking in on their happily ever after as it continues to evolve. Add in the action in Washington along with a mysterious ailment for Pia, and I didn’t want to put it down.

This is the first of three novellas featuring the Cuelebre family. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next, though fear not: there are no cliffhangers here. This is a complete story, and I think fans of the series will like it as much as I did.

I am all for married couples having a healthy sex life but these shorts go overboard with the sex scenes. Can we have some more word count spent on the plot? Please and thank you.

I could do with some fade to black here and there, I have no interest in their sex lives and I especially don't need a deep dive into it in all its repetitive glory everytime the couple is alone.

If I want to read about sex as the focal point there are books that do it much better, what we get here isn't part of the emotional build up of a couple getting together, and it certainly isn't good enough to be of interest on its own merit. I wish the focus would stick to the story and less on humping, pumping and lusting.

Anytime I can get more of Dragos and Pia's story, it is a gift. This one reveals the depth of their feelings for one another - It is sensual right off the bat. But because it is a Elder Races book, you know it also has suspense and adventure. A minor mystery and a health scare highlight this latest from Thea Harrison. This book is the first in another three part series featuring the First Family of the Wyr. I have to wonder if the Right to Privacy Movement will make an appearance in future full length novels. We need to hang on tight because this is going to be a wild ride.

This was a fun one. I liked that we got to see Dragos and Pia in a mommy/daddy moment fawning over Liam. Pia's realization was great, better was how she blurted it out and Dragos' reaction, which lead us to some very steamy scenes.

Things in DC went about how I thought, lots of political intrigue, people taking advantage of the situation to further their own agenda and Dragos and Pia thwarting it all. I loved the surprise at the end that Pia and Dragos found out. It will be fun to see how everyone else takes it.

My Review:

Dragos Goes to Washington is the next installment in the series and this is where politics in the realm of the Elder Races has been escalated. There are rumors of the Vice President of the United States having a evil plan to destroy the Elder Races and any trust the government and the people have built with Dragos and his people over the years. And there is the added benefit of Pia wanted to have another child and Dragos is more than willing to do whatever it takes to give Pia what she desires. This is one of the novellas that we see more depth in their relationship. I was hoping we would get a bit more with Peanut to be honest. But honestly I adored this book in every way. Political intrigue is one of my favorite things in a book and it was beyond fascinating. I was so fascinated to see where this author was going serial plot wise. I do know how it kinda ends though, so I am very fascinated to see how Dragos and Pia get to their final place. But man this baby is going to cause some drama, I just know it. I hope its a girl though. I guess we shall find out in the next installment.

Overall I found Dragos Goes to Washington to be a true delight of a novella and Dragos and Pia are proving why they are becoming one of my favorite couples. I can't wait to see more of this world.

I always really enjoy these short stories keeping me connected to the Elder world in between the main books. And I really enjoyed this one. Dragon Bound is one of my most favourite books ever and Dragos and Pia one of my favourite couples. Of course Dragos is a dragon so that's fascinating on its own, but Pia is a smart and lovely heroine who I always really enjoy reading. Every time I think of her I get a thrill knowing what she is. I've reread Dragon Bound about three times since I first read it and so I love going back into Pia and Dragos' world and getting something new. I've missed them sorely since the last two main books have been outside their demesne. Although some books in this series can be a bit of a miss, I've got to say the good ones are REALLY good and this is my favourite paranormal series by far. After what has happened in this little shortie, needless to say I'm dying to get my hands on the next one.

It is always fun when an author treats her fans to something extra; a character interview, a deleted scene or even an extended epilogue available only on their website. These small tidbits make the reading experience that much more enjoyable as we get more information about people and places we loved so well. Thea Harrison has taken this idea of something extra and expanded it into full slices of life for her leading characters Dragos and Pia Cuelebre. In Dragos Goes to Washington readers get another chance to see how the first family of the Wyr are juggling the demands of their people against the stresses of everyday life.
