In the dark, crowded basement of the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, a cultural biologist studies the history of mankind's deadly interaction with "Xenomorphic Alien Species." But something lurks in the darkness that may make the biologist's Alien encounter far less academic! Aliens: Free Comic Book Day is the frightening prequel to Aliens: More Than Human , written by John Arcudi (BPRD, Doom Patrol, The Mask ) and illustrated by Zach Howard ( Shaun of the Dead, Year One Batman: Scarecrow, The Cape ) and Mark Irwin ( Green Lantern, Brightest Day, X-Men ).
John Arcudi has made a name for himself by scripting comics that manage to combine long-running subplots with impeccable characterization and action sequences, making for some of the most exciting and consistently good comics out today.
At only 12 pages (Its FREE, so sue me), you don't get too much bang for your buck, or non-buck. Just a scientist trying to figure out things AFTER the Alien invasion. It does whet my appetite for the comics; so I will definitely be picking these up. The illustrations were really good.
Well, wasn't this a complete surprise package, especially as it was offered under the "Free Comic Book Day" banner. I've found some of these offerings more than a bit on the crappy side while others are eye blindingly spectacular. This graphic novel is one of the latter. The artwork .... oh my ..... the artwork! It was simply amaaazing! The artist has rendered the Alien so life-like it's almost like watching the movie. And the completely new storyline held me spellbound and on the edge of my seat from start to finish. There was even a moment there at the end when I was wondering whether I needed to check my knickers. Whether you're a comic book aficionado, a graphic book newbie or simply returning to the joy of your youth then you will find this offering an excellent example of quality work.
This issue of FCBD 2015 is a rather slow moving story with next to no action. The story revolves around a scientist asking himself questions surrounding the development of cultures and societies along alien life forms. I didn't think there was much here
After humanity's encounter with the alien species, a scientist is researching the xenomorph by comparing it to humans, insects, and apes. Though xenomorphs carry similar qualities the aforementioned, they are uniquely intelligent and that makes them very dangerous. The art style was really good. The thing that I really liked is the atmosphere. The atmosphere is very tense and you really feel anxious and even scared even though this is pretty much an introduction and very short volume. In general, it was okay and almost three stars for me.
I picked up this book from Amazon as soon as I've seen. I love the movie Aliens. The Predator is my favorite alien of all times (except for Doctor Who), but I still love Aliens. I was so curious to see what was going to happen in this comic. Sadly, it was so short and with no story. It just talked a little about them and I really thought something was going to happen at the end. It was a nice read, but nothing special to me.
That artwork. Doesn't matter it has only 12 pages. I loved it and I swear, one day, if I have wedding, I'll ask Mark Irwin to make me wedding announcement cards. With Aliens on it. And facehuggers. And blood.
Humanity have survived the xenomorph reaching the Earth and a scientist is considering whether they show any signs of intelligence, having been known to disable security systems to aid their hunting of their prey.
This comic book, realised for free for free comic book day, set the basis for a longer story, which is continued in the essential aliens series by Dark Horse. It is a good introduction and leaves the reading wanting to find out more about how the aliens were defeated on Earth.
I’m 27 and haven’t picked up a comic in about 20 years. That being said, I enjoyed reading this enough that I borrowed a graphic novel from my local library. As an avid reader of crime fiction, comics are a nice quick read and break from whatever else I am reading at the moment.
Great little introduction into the comic world with the xenomorphic Aliens. Gets your blood pumping for more excitement just by his narration of the xenomorphs invasion of the earth. Awesome graphics and illustrations, and again great writing. Excellent read.
A great start...not the cliff hanger I was expecting. If your doing a comic book, especially a comic book, you want to end with something way more visual. People have a way of coming back to something memorable. Especially, if it intrigues them.
I don't read many comics, but this grabbed my attention and was free. It made me interested enough to look for the next one. Art was good and captivated my attention. Made for a nice change of pace for me.
Better than average free comic book day offering from 2009. Great artwork, engaging story and interesting concept. I think it was supposed to be a prequel of sorts for the horrible Prometheus movie. If true, this book excels that movie in every way.
Short nonsense Introduction to a comic book. Read the whole thing in 3 minutes and and was not interested enough to follow further. Gave it 3 stars because the artwork was good.
A few pages with quite strong art, setting the stage for a longer work that I am not quite motivated to find based on this. It's not bad and if you aren't burnt out on aliens as a universe this does tease more.
Interesting start, with an intriguing plot. Not sure how it will pan out in a longer story, but I'd definitely be interested in reading Issue 1 to find out.
