This was really really good, though I did figure out who the bad guy was early on.
Jo McDaniels is an awesome character and one I know I'd love to revisit. She is smart, brave and easily to relate to. She is an FBI Criminal Profiler and very good at what she does. She also has a hidden ability, she can sense what happened with the victims of the crime. This along with her ears of experience, makes her the go to gal for all high profile cases.
Then we have the Sheriff Austin Garrett. He isn't very happy to have the FBI called into his case but is willing to do anything to catch the killer that is decapitating victims.
I have to say that I loved the dynamics between Jo and Austin. It felt real, though a little rushed. It started off slow but got intense towards the end.
The plot was fast paced and gripping. I love a good forensics book, but when you add in Jos ability and a serial killer, then you have the makings of a great book! Thankfully, the author succeeded in making it great. Even though I had an idea of who the bad guy was, there was still enough suspicious people to keep the suspense alive throughout.
In all, a really great listen. With amazing characters and a thrilling plot, this is a must read. I really hope we see these characters again soon.

I like a good mystery and I love reading romantic suspense novels so when I read the blurb for Ties That Bind, I knew this was a book I had to read. Forensics fascinates me; I enjoy watching those types of TV shows and I enjoy reading about the subject. This novel encompasses all of these elements, which made it a enjoyable read.
The characters in Ties That Bind are intelligent and, with the exception of the villain, are likeable. The main character, Jo, has a dual Masters in criminology and Psychology, a perfect and fitting background for a FBI Criminal Profiler. Jo also possess a unique psychic gift that assists her with her investigations. This gift, along with the stress of her job, takes a lot out of her but she remains completely dedicated to her job and saving the lives of others.
The relationship that blossomed between Jo and Austin was realistic and took a slow and steady pace. Here is one of my favorite dialogues between Austin’s teenaged daughter and Jo. I get a chuckle every time I read it.
One thing that felt a little odd was that religion wasn’t much of a factor until the end of the book, at which point it was laid on a little thick. It seemed to come out of nowhere. I think it would have flowed a little more smoothly if the religion aspect was brought into the character’s profile early on. I would have also liked to have seen a little more sizzling interaction between Austin and Jo.
All in all, Ties that Bind is a great romantic suspense read. It just dove right in to the storyline and it held my attention all the way until the end. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put my Kindle down. It had good strong characters and a plotline that twisted and turned and kept me on my toes. Just when I thought I had the villain all figured out, the author threw me a curve ball. I’m definitely going to explore other books written by this author.

Ties That Bind begins with FBI agent Jo McDaniels returning to her hometown, Claremont, Oregon to help Sheriff Austin Garrett find the serial killer who has been decapitating women. Jo has never planned on coming back but she know the people and geography of the place. She has a special ability to connect to the victims at their moment of death.
Austin doesn't believed Jo about her ability and tested her. After much apologizing, Jo was able to put Austin's skepticism. As Jo is texted to stress and exhaustion on building the profile, Jo is also forced to face her limitation of having another mental breakdown.
Austin and Jo didn't start off on the right foot. Austin respected Jo as a FBI agent even though he didn't believe about Jo's gift at first. Jo trusted Austin to confide to him about her gift. Both are attracted to each other but tried to remain professional.
As Jo build her profile on the killer, Austin and Jo realized that Jo also fit the victim's profile. The only question is would the killer come after Jo.
Readers/Listeners will love the the twist and turns in this suspense thriller. There are clues where the readers/listeners could figure out who is the killer but they will need to pay close attention to the story. I also love that Jo has close roots of friends in her hometown even though she hasn't kept contact with them.
The narrator, Leonor A. Woodworth deliver a wonderful performance of narrating the story. She provided voices to the characters with emotion when the situation is required. She does have a wonderful voice to listen to.

Ties that Bind was difficult to put down and I would highly recommend it.
The way in which the killer goes about selecting and killing his victims is both chilling and creepy. The only downside was that I figured out too early in the story who the killer was. The attempt to throw suspicion in a different direction towards the end of the novel came too late and it just didn't convince me. Despite this I enjoyed the serial killer storyline and the whole process the police went through in order to catch him. But, what I liked most was Jo and her story. She is a very interesting and well written character. The fact that she is an FBI profiler is an interesting aspect of her life in itself but she also has a rocky relationship with her family which plays a big part in the story. I loved the fact that she had a psychic connection to the murders and we got to see into the minds of the victims as well as the killer.
There is also a little bit of romance involved as Jo and Sheriff Austen become friendly. I liked that it was only a small aspect of the story and not overdone as the writer focused more on the murder mystery plot.
Leonor A Woodworth is very easy to listen to and she does a fantastic job of narrating Ties that Bind. She did a great job of portraying male and female characters and she gets across their emotions very well.
This is the second of Leonor's productions that I have listened to and I have been impressed both times.

Anne Patrick again delivers the perfect amount of suspense and romance in Ties That Bind. From the minute it started til the very end, it will keep you guessing. I love books that contain forensics, and this one was very interesting. The mind of serial killers is always very interesting. The main character, Jo, estranged from her family is called home to work a serial murder case as an FBI profiler. She works with Sheriff Austin Garrett through 6 murders and many dinners. Jo, being a psychic is able to feel the emotions of the murder victims and murderer when touching the bodies, or going to the place where the bodies were found. While listening to this book, there were several characters I thought could have done it, but as soon as I was sure of who it was, my mind was changed! Love these kinds of stories. The romance between Austin and Jo was just enough, keeping you rooting for the couple, but wanting the case to be solved.
Leonor A Woodworth narrates this book. She always delivers a convincing portrayal. The inflection and emotions she conveys makes the narration full of life and always keeps me listening. I love her performances and always look forward to a book when I see she is the narrator. (less)

Does a serial killer walk beside them?
I'm going to start off by saying that I loved Ties That Bind! It's by far my favorite Anne Patrick novel! OK, so maybe I've only 'read' four so far, but this one was great! It was chilling, it was riveting, it was creepy, it was gritty, it was gripping, it was engrossing, and it was even a little scary.
I started Ties That Bind with high hopes that it would be good story. I was not disappointed in the slightest. It reminded me of another series I loved, Kaely Quinn Profiler from Nancy Mehl, and also of Brandilyn Collins's Chelsea Adams books. So if you enjoyed any of those titles you should seriously check out this one from Anne Patrick.
There were a couple of points in Ties That Bind that annoyed me to no end, specifically how Jo's brother and mother blame her for things that she couldn't possibly be in control of. But, it shows how emotionally involved I got with the lead characters. The family drama and relationships were a really good way for Anne Patrick to bring everyday reality into a seriously spine-tingling tale.
Once again one of my absolute favorite narrators has brought an already good story to life in full technicolor. Listening to her read this story made my imagination take flight as only an audiobook or a person reading aloud can do. As you can probably guess already, the production quality was very good. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to any fan of gritty Christian romantic suspense.

I could not put this down. Ties That Bind is a thriller that stars Jo McDaniels, an FBI profiler with 10 years experience. After years of study, training and a wealth of cases under her belt, Jo is called to use her special talent to investigate a serial killer back in her hometown of Claremont. However, Jo is estranged from her family so going back isn't as easy as it may seem.
I chose this book as my P in the alphabet of author's names that I haven't read yet, and I am very glad that I did. It is full of suspense, and whilst the murders are horrible, there is no excessive gore or mutilation that can be found in other books.
What I particularly liked about this book is that despite there being two more obvious suspects, the evidence keeps swinging one way and then the other, so you cannot be sure in your predictions. The author keeps you on the edge of your seat as each bit of the plot unfolds as we move towards the climax of the story. Really enjoyable and well written. I have added the sequel, Malice, to my wishlist and will read that soon as I've finished going through the alphabet.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love a good mystery, police drama and to find a novel that has a well written storyline and an underlying message of faith is a rare jewel! Thank you Ms. Patrick for writing such and exciting story that didn’t have a single curse word! Amazing! It can be done! Thank you!! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Heart clincher for sure
This is best serial killer mystery I've ever read and I've read many. This book stands out. Not only is it well written; but beautifully thought out.

Good mystery. I wish that the romance had not been as big a part of the storyline, though. It was a little too “sappy” at times. Good, quick read.

Awesome suspense
Tied That Bind is a terrific romantic suspense with a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat. Suspense fans do not want to miss this one.

The editing job ruined the 5-star rating
The story itself was pretty good - a little stilted here and there and a few conversations with too many repetitive proper nouns, but all in all, it was riveting, albeit predictable at the end. The thing that made it a 4-star was the editing job. Geez, whoever edited the manuscript of this book did a HORRIBLE job. Countless typos and some of the phrasing and idioms were totally off, too. For example, "adjourning" was used to refer to an adjoining room. Last time I checked, adjourning did not mean adjacent. That's just one example of the many editing mistakes I found. Oh, well...good thing I'm not so much of an English snob that I won't keep going in the series. :)

I really liked this book as a suspense/romance novel, however I find it puzzling that it is under the "Christian Fiction" banner on Kindle. There was virtually nothing that would turn me towards Christ in reading this book. The sheriff is referred to as a Christian but aside from the fact that he mentions the Bible once and that he goes to church there really isn't anything in his character to support this. None of the other characters appear to have a relationship with Christ, and there is little to no scripture. That being said, it was a clean, well written story with a plot that hooks you right from the start.

I have only read one other novel by Anne Patrick and decided to try another. I enjoyed Ties That Bind, especially the characters of Jo, Austin and Isaac. I find all three believeable and likeable. The storyline was strong and the pace steady, keeping me engaged and turning pages. It's refreshing to read a suspenseful novel that isn't filled with gore, cursing, and gratuitous sex. Though I would like to see a bit more spirituality developed in the characters, I enjoyed this work enough to want to read the second book in the series. I hope the second book has a little better editor though...too many elementary mistakes in this one.

I have found another favorite author! If you like Christian Suspense, and writers like Terri Blackstock and Lynette Eason, you will like Anne Patrick's books. This book has suspense, drama, Christian values, romance, and unexpected twists. I can't say enough about Ms. Patrick's writing. This is the 3rd audio book that I've listened too and I can't wait to read or listen to the rest! Leonor A Woodworth, who narrated this book, has a perfect voice for this genre. Paired together, these women make an amazing team.

Good book
This is the first book I've read by Anne Patrick. It was a good read and I would read more by her. There were a lot of editing issues, wrong words and punctuation. I also felt like the religious parts of the book were an afterthought instead an actual part of the story. However, that being said, I would recommend the book.

Witty dialogue, plot twists, suspense, romance --lots to like in this one. I enjoyed trying to put the clues together in the investigation along with the very likeable lead characters in this law enforcement drama.

fbi profiler goes home after 10 years to hunt a serial killer. really good plot and characters but I knew who the villain was the minute he entered the book. still good especially the love story and the family reunion.

You don't always know the evil that is near.
