OK, So most of you are probably wondering why I give this book a single star. And I understand you perfectly. The writing is great, the character development is great, the relationships feel genuine. It's a great book. Until it starts to lecture you. About halfway in, it tries to do something it's not supposed to do; Promote religion. Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against religious people. In fact, I admire them for the strenght they have to believe so blindly, it amazes me. I have nothing but respect for believers. That being said; Midway-through, this book just takes a nose-dive and turns into a lecturing, condecending and arrogant piece of .... It tries to show you how good it is to live on the "religous side", and how you should abstain from alcohol, sex and so on, which is fine. I could live with that. The problem is that it does it in such a condecending and arrogant way that it makes me sick to my stomach. It's so self-important towards the end that it's unbelievable. I didn't buy this book to be lectured on morale, how to treat people, to be indoctrinated or to be told that drinking is bad. I bought it to get a love-story, nothing more. No ulterior motive. This feels deceptive and wrong.
In conclusion: Spectacular writing and with a solid plot. But's it's just so full of itself that it ruins the entire atmosphere and story. It's focus changes so drastically that, for me, the book is ruined. In the end it feels like you've been lured into a recruiting tool for religion with a great starting story, but you're left with a feeling of disbelief as the book turns into something it was never supposed to be. Propaganda
It was a pretty good read. I think it had a great message without being preachy and I also liked the story. My only issue is I found the characters immature for that age, and I don't like one-sided/first person told stories. I like to know what the other person is feeling also. I was also getting tired of Aubrey making dumb decisions and then to find out there's a sequel of her, I'm sure, continuing to make dumb decisions... no thank you, I think the first one is enough. With that being said, overall it's a sweet, love story with a great message.
I can't say enough about this book. What I will say is please read this book; it is a book that makes you look at the two main characters Daniel and Aubrey and know that there is a right and wrong way to love. I have read this book twice and am looking forward to the sequel. Corine Marie you have found your calling.
Amazing book! The story-line was refreshing; the christian values and their relationship with God was really close to my heart. But it wasn't too much or too intense. I learnt so much and it was a realistic romance.
The story kept me interested and wanting to read more. I like that the book actually had an ending without leaving the story unfinished. Yes I may want to read the next book but I am not being manipulated and that is important to me.
