In the eighth Liam Quinn book from author L.H. Thomson's series, "Quinn Goes To Jail", giving up freedom for two weeks could help clear a 20 year old murder/ bank robbery case. At the conclusion of the seventh Quinn book, ("Quinn Slips The Noose"), Quinn is arrested for breaking parole conditions. It's a trumped up bogus charge for sure, but nonetheless Quinn is in jail awaiting his bail hearing. FBI Special Agent Francis X. Belloche, (Quinn's nemesis), proposes a deal. He'd like Quinn to refuse his bail hearing and postpone it for two weeks. Belloche would like Quinn to get the 411 low down on a mob hit man, and bank robber named Dennis "The Bulldog" Roselli. Twenty years ago during a local bank robbery Roselli and two others killed bank guard Charlie Porter. Belloche's one time partner and now retired agent Forrest Owens is dying of cancer and this case is hanging over his head. Roselli has had somewhere between 16-30 mob kills, and an air tight alibi for the time of the robbery. Owens knows Roselli was one of the robbers and could never prove it. Charlie Porter's four kids grew up with no justice for their father. So, Quinn who is clearly a soft touch for sob stories agrees to get info and location of Roselli from inside the jail. Fiancee Nora Garcia de Soria explodes ! She's knows this is the craziest and stupidest of ideas that'll get Quinn hurt or killed. Luckily Quinn has some contacts from his first prison sentence still on the inside. He thinks most of his jail house contacts will help protect him. He's also supposed to get help from guards and warden. Naturally Quinn is exposed very quickly. The cons are not sure if Quinn is a cop or a snitch. Either way Quinn's in big trouble. Meanwhile the highly upset Nora starts investigating this old bank robbery from her end on the outside. Quickly mobsters and gangsters have it in for Nora. In a very fast paced and very clever story it's sometimes hard to decide who's a bad guy or a good guy. Author L.H. Thomson weaves a very intricate and surprisingly sneaky web to keep the twists and turns confusing the reader with each chapter. The book also trades off the first person telling the story. Some chapters are Nora and her investigating while others it's Quinn trying to survive jail. A really neat way to tell this story. The characters are all complex within this yarn. I'll admit I didn't guess the ending until the very end. But it was a really good spin that ends the story. I'd highly recommend this, and the other seven books in the Liam Quinn series. "Quinn Goes To Jail", is certainly worthy of five stars out of a possible five stars. Without a doubt a very enjoyable read.
